These are from my basement, next to my gun cabinet.  I have another sword, but it's an antique british officer's sword (not a calvary saber though) that I believe to be from the 1800's.  I don't think I'd take it to a zombie though if I had other choices.  My shed has lots good things for close combat (hatchet, axe, sledge hammers, chainsaw (I know, not starting a chainsaw discussion), etc)

And this is my M1917 American Enfield with the 17" bayonet

I'M JUST SAYIN if you managed to replace the pumping mechanism with an industrial air compressor, you oculd do serious damage!

Imagine 1 cubic cm of water hitting a target at 500psi.

That would be interesting to see. Though to be honest I would expect the supersoaker to just explode, they're not made to take that much pressure.

Hmm. That's interesting. Everyone always wonders about renewable ammunition supplies. Why not use hand-pumped pneumatics (a-la Metro 2033)?

The ammo would be MUCH simpler to create (Or gather), and probably even reusable in some cases.

Post by: Fiveofclubs on July 21, 2011, 09:58:20 am
Yes you can generate a stream of water that would have devastaing effects to a body, but the question is how practical is it.  How protable, how much resources need to go into producing and running it, etc.

As for the hand pumped weapons, there are air rifles (pumped) that are as powerful as firearms.  The rate of fire is not high, but accuracy and energy are the same.  Certainly a good choice for a survival weapon.

They're also relatively quiet too, aren't they? Would make a good weapon for picking off a stray roamer or two around your living area.

True, I suppose. If you're going to the effort of upping the pressure like that, why not?

There are ones that shoot super-sonic, so there is a pretty loud "crack", but others are darn near silent.

Some can get loud, but you can get models with sound suppressors built on. I know Gamo makes one called "Whisper" with a suppressor.

I agree with a crossbow being equal, or maybe even better than an airgun.  B a bow, in my experience, is a whole different skill set.

This partially for Yut assuming he hasn't purchased his first firearm yet.

Ruger Gunsite Scout.  It was designed to be a survival type rifle and really does make an effective "one gun" filler.

It's meant to be light enough to carry anywhere for long periods of time, and lots of other elements offset the negatives of a shortened, light rifle.  It's heavy barreled, .308 caliber (so great accuracy), Bolt action for reliability, magazine fed for good capacity and quick reloads (defense), iron sights and the ability to mount optics.

Would be good to several hundred yards, quick to shoot/reload, a little over 8 pounds loaded with a scope!

Oh yesh, that is a nice one. Will keep it in mind. And unfortunately I do not have my license yet. But now that I have have a job I will definitely look into getting it since I will have the money and everything. :3
I will probably get a Ruger SR-22 as my first gun and kit it out with some good tactical accessories, and then move onto bigger stuff from there. A good .308 rifle like that would definitely be great.

Wasn't sure where to put this so I will post it here.

Not to long ago I was talking about a company called zombie tools, they make blades to kill zombies. I have heard from many people (not so much here) that these guys sell crap and the blade I bought was a waste of money. They recently did a torture test of one of there blades, in it they cut up a truck hood, a cinder block, and a bike. After the cutting they did a few bend tests, have a look.

destruction test (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itE3_p7Fxwg)

Seems like a pretty solid blade to me...I can't say I like there taste in music though...

Yea it really seems like a solid blade to me. You are supposed to hitting flesh so its not surprising it broke when they hit the solid concrete block. I guess it is hard to know the quality of a weapon without actually being able to handle it.

Out getting some practice with one of my weapons of choice, a Russian surplus SKS:

Built like a tank, respectively accurate, shoots the second-cheapest and most-common round in the world ($0.25/bullet FTW!), and with a great big steel plate on the butt for face smaeshing. Plus, they're cheap as hell. They're so cheap that my friend's store uses them as pre-order bonuses for expensive guns.

Plus, I just ordered this earlier today from aforementioned store:

Hatsan Escort MarineGuard 12-gauge shotgun. 8 rounds of buckshot and a nickle finish.

Good thing to collect, they're cheap as shit. My friend's store has Russian SKSes for $165, SVT-40s for $250, Mosin-Nagants for $120 and Tokarevs for $170. I could buy one of each for less than the price of a lot of American-made guns. And it's not like any of them are bad guns, it's just that there are approximately a bazillion of them floating around. They sell SKSes and Nagants in 10-packs.

Title: Re: weapons thread 2.0.
Post by: Yutrzenika on October 07, 2011, 11:54:41 pm
The ammo is dirt cheap too, most you have to do is put in a little extra effort for cleaning because'a the berdan primers. There's a site here that also has a Canada legal Makarov, that'd make for a good collectors item too.

Title: Re: weapons thread 2.0.
Post by: Marauder_Pilot on October 08, 2011, 10:44:16 pm
Another fun thing about old Russian guns is that they break down really, REALLY fast. The SKS completely disassembles for cleaning with two pins-one to take off the receiver cover and one to take off the gas tube. Hose down the bolt, carrier, piston, spring and reciever with some shotgun cleaner, ram a swab down the barrel and gas tube, wipe everything down and put it back together, it takes all of 5 minutes.

Title: Re: weapons thread 2.0.
Post by: Yutrzenika on October 09, 2011, 03:29:52 pm
I hear SVT-40s are a pain the break down though. I will definitely be getting some Russian guns though, I might even get an old German WWII rifle from my grandpa.

Most of the weapons you post here are really awesome... I always wanted to start to learn to shoot firearms but the legal constraints here in France are really high and I do not want to undergo all this procedures now (And since I do not have a driving licence, transporting a weapon to the range could be impossible...)

Anyways I'm not entirely defenseless, I have several goodies that I'll post here.

$200 tax stamp with the ATF and then just cut the barrel. You'd have to keep the stock but whatever. But then again I live in a lax-law state.

Or someone could pre-mod some before importing and sell them as Bolt-action pistols legally.

That being said I picked up a nice condition Soviet 1943 model 1891/30 mosin on an impulse purchase today for $80. Going to go pick up a can of ammo (440 rounds) for $90 and a set of $20 stripper clips.
Also picking up a SIG-M400 (I can get one for cheap), some P-mags, a box of 1000RDS of Lake City 5.56, and a glock G19 plus 100 rounds of federal 9mm once my tax return comes in.

I stand corrected, I have $400 stuck in my head because I'm trying to talk myself out of building my new AR as a suppressed ($200) + short barrel rifled ($200) in .300 AAC Blackout.

Gun Show this weekend, might have a something new tomorrow!

Looks pretty cool but why use two rounds when one will do the job?

One part of me sees that as the defilement of one of the most classic and revered handguns ever made.

Another part wants 2 of them so I can dual wield.

I'm so conflicted

Same reason the SAS puts two rounds into the head of people they kill.

Why use one round when two will make sure it's done right?

It looks like firing those pistols will really hurt your wrists...but still, I like the idea. I'm gonna try to keep an eye out for it on future explosion-pew-pew-pew movies.

Is it ok to necro this thread?? Is that something that is ok??

Anywho, Sons of guns recently made a couple guns for Max Brooks, and they where awesome, here is one I am lookin to get.

It is a .22 and the suppressor and scope dont come with it but, it is basically a ruger .22 rifle in a bullpup frame. It looks cool, recoil is less of a bitch, and it is still crazy simple to maintain. From the price checking I have done it shouldnt cost more than the marlin I bought.

Looks cool, though .22 doesn't even really have recoil to begin with. Wish we could get stuff like that here, but were not allowed kits that make guns more compact, so pretty much no bullpup kits allowed. D:

I have no complaints, and it's on topic.

Looks like it's modeled after the PS90, which is pretty cool itself.  looks like a very fun plinker.

I have been a huge bullpup fan for years (decades) and had plans to use a kit to make a bullpup mini-14, but I've recently had a change of heart.

One of the twists getting thrown into the practical shooting world in the US is "alternate fire positions" one of which is firing rifles from both shoulders in a single stage (one at a time, no dual wielding rifles....yet).  Bullpups are really bad for doing that with the current exception of the FS2000.

So that is and the bullpup pump shotgun the Keltec KSG are still on my want list.

Looks like I won't have any major changes to my zombie gun lineup this year.  Have some new one, but all .22 or target stuff.
