Title: Flight of the Praetorian
Post by: Red Ivan on January 18, 2012, 02:54:38 pm
Setting: In an alternate steampunk world on a renown airship.

--

Back-story: Two years ago a massive war broke out between The Confederation and the Kau Empire. The Confederation sustained considerable losses but emerged victorious a year later. The Kau Nation has since then been absorbed into the Confederation. For three months now a group of Kao nationalists known as the Red Hand have been committing small acts of terrorism against the Confederation.

The Praetorian, a famous airship has been hired by the Confederation to deliver some well known ambassadors, a large amount of food and supplies, government officials and a few scientists along with a dozen guests to the Kao Nationís Capital to ease the tension.
The trip takes three days...

--

So thatís what Iíve got so far. I just want some feedback from you guys and girls to see if you want to play or what type of scenario you want to do. Ex. From the group of players I select a Red Hand terrorist, whose role is to sabotage the Praetorian or all the Players are terrorists who have to hijack the Praetorian.

I like both the takes, one being a terrorist should be kept secret so that player and yourself pm ideas on it, so you post their pms of terrorist acts and like.
That would make a lot of drama etc.

Terroists all sounds almost party raid type thing. Action, faster paced and working together.

Id enjoy the depth of the first take as the goverment officials would be backstabbing each other anyway due to trying too further themselves etc.

I reckon the second, simpler option would be an easier way for the forum to get back into roleplaying.

I would love either way!

Thanks for taking interest  ;D
I did set out with the intention of having different agendas. Like maybe two or three Red Hand operatives, a confederation agent and maybe some political backstabbing
Depends what people want and if more people want to get involved

I would totally love to be an airship pirate in disguise who isn't on either side.

Like I say either is good. But I think, at least at the start you should keep it light and then it can be built on. Mainly so those of us, inc me, who havnt done any rping in a while can get back into the groove.

I'm game for either one.

Terroists all sounds almost panty raid type thing. Action, faster paced and working together.

This works too, and how I read it the first time.

Flight of the Praetorian OOC
Quick note: I will select Red Hand agents and other certain roles in PMs so donít list your role as terrorist lol)
Name: (You can attach a title if you wish to)
Age: (Duh)
Weapons: (Your character may bring a concealed weapon or two onto the Praetorian unless youíre a guard since youíll have access to the armory on board. If you donít know what weapons are appropriate then think WW1 era guns, bolt action rifles, revolvers, pistols that sorta thing. Youíre welcome to take an existing weapon and rename it to use in the role-play)
Role: (Ambassadors, guards, government officials and guests like authors, artists, and alchemists)
Appearance:  (Self-explanatory)
Bio: (Again self-explanatory. You donít need to write a page, just a few sentences if you want)
Misc(Optional): (Anything relating to your character that doesnít fit in the other categories)

I'll write out a bio, but I'm going to have to think a little for this one. Do you have a deadline on when you want the Bio's in or noooo? (I only ask this because I work full time and might not be here on certain days/important things in the rp should they arise)

So is the airship pirate idea okay or do I need to come up with a different character?

@Hailfax Nope no deadline.
@NerdPower! Oh yeah :) Wouldn't be steampunk without airship pirates XD

Name: Captain Viktor Kraig

Age: 27

Weapons: Webley-Fosbery Automatic Revolver (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webley-Fosbery_Automatic_Revolver), trench knife

Role: Captain of the airship Sovereign. Disguised as a member of the cleaning staff of the Praetorian.

Appearance: About 6' 2" with long, black hair tied back in a ponytail. Wearing a cleaning staff uniform currently. Normally wears a red uniform jacket with brass buttons up the front an tasseled shoulder pads with a black and red officer's hat with the original insignias ripped off and replaced with his crew's Jolly Roger.

Bio: Viktor was born into a low class family in one of the great cities. His life was okay given his societal status until the small country where he lived in went to war with the Confederation. His parents went to work in an arms factory and they became a little more prosperous until one day the factory was bombed and his parents were both killed. After that Vik roamed the streets trying to avoid going to thee orphanage or being drafted into the Children's Brigade of the military. He joined a gang of other children and learned the art of sleight of hand and pickpocketing. His small gang operated for years even after the war ended and his country was absorbed into the Confederation. Eventually the leader of the gang was captured, however, and the children who had grown into young adults now were forced to flee. Vik and his best friend, Aleks ended up joining the crew of a trading airship. It wasn't until they were in the air that they learned that they had actually joined a pirate crew. The crew was mostly made up of people who had once been soldiers in the old country's navy and army. The captain was a hard man but fair and he took a liking to the two new boys on the crew. Vik and Aleks, then 16, were taken under the captain's wing and treated as if they were one of the captain's own children. Under his leadership they learned how to sword fight, shoot, pilot, and navigate the ship. They became two of the most trusted members of the crew, helping the captain plan raids on Confederation supply ships and such. As other members died in battle or became too old to continue the two of them rose in the ranks. When the captain took a bullet in a particular raid on a supply convoy Viktor was the obvious choice to take over captaining the ship and Aleks became his first mate. The war with the Kau Empire was very profitable for the crew since the Confederation had fewer people guarding important shipments since they were too busy elsewhere. This was to be their major heist yet though. They found out about the top secret flight of the Praetorian and infiltrated several members into the crew and staff knowing that there was a ton of money to be made here both in valuables and ransom money from the many high-profile people on board.

Misc: He has ten members of his crew disguised as various members of the crew and staff and even a few disguised as guests ready to spring to his aid at his signal. His ship is also waiting for a signal to attack and extract Vik and his crew members if necessary.

Weapons: Colt Paterson

Role: Pirate, disguised as a guest

Appearance: Black trousers, white collared shirt with black workmanís vest, suspenders, brown leather coat, goggles, newsboy cap and brown boots. He has short brown hair and is about 5í10Ē.

Bio: Grew up in one of the great cities. His family was always on the move, so no one place to him was called home. He was too young for the war and wished he couldíve fought, but never got the chance to. He has been known to swindle people with his deck of cards, making easy money on the streets, preying on the ones too foolish to keep their money. One of the members of Viktorís crew disguised as a guest on board. He is one of the newest members of Viktorís crew and one that would be out of the way from most of the action. But, if and when needed he will come to the aid of his captain and the rest of the crew.

Misc: Carries a pocket watch, deck of cards, cigarettes.

blar blar blar (talked with Nerd about being part of his crew. Said it was okay. Blar)

Going to make up an alchemist, if only so I can have a revolver that shoots little vials in place of bullets. Or something that shoots potions and vials.

Name: Lyanna "Nymeria" Veressdar

Age: 24, f.

Weapons: Throwing Knives (hidden in fake books), A Winchester Model 1895, and a Sawed-off Shotgun (Both hidden in two book cases), and a Weebly Revolver (also hidden in a book).

Role: Has a dual life as an author and a Mercenary.

Appearance: 5"11, slight build with long red hair. Blue eyes. Black robe with fur on the cuffs, a scarlet red shirt underneath and black trousers. A pair of pinc-nez sunglasses as well.

Bio: Was born in a small family within one of the larger cities. Working class parents, and was educated by her father who taught her how to hunt and shoot as sometimes she would need to go out and hunt for food. She entered a shooting contest when she was 16 and completely out shot all the other shooters by hitting 5 silver dollars at 600 ft. This attracted a lot of attention to her as different "corporations" wanted to hire her for some "business". Wanting to make a name for herself, she started working as an independent contractor with the Confederation as they paid the most and she wanted to help her family. She was brought on board the Praetorian as an extra guard, and keeper of the small personal library within the Praetorian. While working with the Confederation, she has heard whispers of the attack on the Praetorian and has come aboard to make a name for herself one way or another.

Misc: As well as being a mercenary, she has used her experiences to write a book or two with medium levels of success. These books were loved among the upper-class peoples as they brought excitement to their mundane lives. She had the small library brought aboard personally as she has a love of books and the book shelves secretly contain some of her weapons. (If that's okay). Carries an ornate cigarette lighter, and a small silver coin of unknown origin.

(I hope that's okay everybody)

(I totally heard the name Nymeria before, somewhere in A Clash of Kings probably, or something like that)

Name: Doctor Gregory "Doc Brown" Heinz

Age: 55

Weapons: A modified revolver to hold vials as well as bullets, nicknamed "Bertha".

Role: Alchemist/Doctor

Appearance: Standing at a height of 6'1, weighing at 176 lbs (Probably healthy, don't want him to have a gut) with mostly grey hair with strands of it's original brown; a grey, curling mustache and a trace of a stubble. Usually wearing a white shirt with vertical green stripes under a light brown vest with a black bowtie, and a light grey coat and light brown trousers; he is also seen with a black bowler hat.

Bio: Growing up as a son of a doctor and a mother who dabbled in science in one of the big cities, he was influenced into becoming a man of science. As he grew into science, he became specialized in alchemy and medicine, where he learned herbalism and the creation of various potions and concoctions with both beneficial and lethal effects on humans. Growing older, he leaned more towards being a doctor and aiding people in their ailments than finding the philosopher's stone but still maintained interest in what alchemy had to offer. Offering nothing groundbreaking in his research, he led a relatively unremarkable life and continued his work, volunteering in his late age his expertise and experience for a goodwill program to the Kao Nation's Capital.

Mildly eccentric, he maintains an upperclass air without looking down on lesser-born humans, deviating to a ye-olde fashioned way of speaking at times. He's mainly jolly and trusting and acts friendly towards others.

Misc(Optional): If the revolver thing doesn't work, then I can pick another weapon.
And I'm stealing Hail's idea of a pocket watch. An upper-class gentleman needs a pocket watch. And a monocle. That he wears occasionally.
JRM; A doctor needs his recreational reading so if it's alright, could he be a fan and have read a book or two of Lyanna's?

Among his belongings are a couple of books; medicinal journals, herbs and plants, alchemy, medical books essentially; potions, vials, beakers and other alchemical tools and equipment, some stowed away and others unpacked; medical equipment, scalpels, syringes, bandages, stuff like that.

What do the Alchemists do exactly? And how steampunk are we talking? The weapon choices seems mundane, but then you mention Alchemists, so I'm trying to figure out how grounded we are in reality and hard science.

(I totally heard the name Nymeria before, somewhere in A Clash of Kings probably, or something like that)

It's the name of Arya's wolf >.> She is named after the Queen Nymeria who invaded Dorne hundreds of years before the war in which Robert took the Iron Throne.
