Title: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: Sarge on December 11, 2009, 02:47:38 pm
We are not sure how it started...Hell, we are not even sure when it happened. But after the Outbreak, nothing was the same. It started small, scattered reports here and there; a rumor about this, like it did in every movie. The cases were small in number and criticized for their unbelievability. But it started to spread. One by one, it took more lives. One by one, our loved ones turned into those...things. It spread quickly after that, entire towns rendered useless and devoid of life. Government's crumbled in the drama of the world, and we watched, not comprehending what was going on in the grand scheme of things. And then the world went black.

It's sad that we were surprised. Our ignorance kept us from preventing anymore deaths. Because of what we thought didn't exist, the entire world is now a vast wasteland that we call our home. We heard the warnings, we saw everything unfold, but we did nothing. We stood back and watched at the very face of the world was changed in a heartbeat. We no longer were the top of the food chain. We were survivors from then on. This little ragtag group has been there since the beginning Ignot and Alex leading the way, hoping that each step is the right one. Because now, it's not about the differences among people, it's not about race, creed, or sex anymore.

It's about surviving.

We are Those Left Behind. (http://thoseleftbehind.wikispaces.com/)

------------------

Welcome to the official restart to one of the best RP's to grace this forum (at least, the participants say so). The goal of this PR is to really grasp not only the realism of a Apocalypse, but to show the human element to it. How people can continue to thrive in condition not so favorable to the human race. If you do something stupid, you'll get killed. If you run off by yourself, you get killed. If you do something that will get you killed....you'll get killed. I have no problems killing player characters to keep the story realistic. However, some of the stunts we pull as a group come straight out of a movie. So expect shenanigans.

Please, no God-Moding, these people are real people brought together in hardship. Not everyone's a soldier, not everyone knows how to start a fire or get a headshot first shot. So make it real.

I expect a fair amount of effort on your part, the player. We try to keep a close community of players so that we can share plots and push stories. If you don't get involved beside a post every now and then, you'll lack the crucial element of player interaction. That's how RP's last a long time.

Anywho, enough rambling. I'll put up a character sheet.

-Large: (Anything larger than a Handgun or a Hand tool. 2 slots)

Personality: (At least 2 paragraphs)
History: (4-5 paragraphs Minimum)

Example:

Name: Ignot
Nickname (If any): Iggy (Only by Alex)
Age: 36
Height: 5’9”
Weight: 155lbs
Eye Color: Blue
Hair Color: Blond (He’s Bald)
Pre-infestation profession: Russian Mob Hitman
Personal skills: Master marksman with most weapons, natural stealth, great organizer and planner.
Jobs in the apartment: Co-Leader and Point man.

Physical appearance: Ignot just looks suspicious. If he dressed like he does now before the infection, he’d be arrested in a heartbeat by cops all over. He is a fairly large man, broad shoulders and chest from the Russian bloodline, as well as toned muscles on his frame from the workout he does every morning. This gives him a very intimidating presence to those who don’t know him. But the black painter’s fumigation mask he wears as well as the red and silver sunglasses adds to his rather mysterious look.

Bald as a cue ball, he never really cared for hair, and regularly shaves it with his hunting knife to keep it clean. As for clothing, he usually is seen in a pair of camouflage pants and a black long-sleeved shirt, covered by a bullet proof vest he found on a zombie corpse. He never really seems to change out of it, but he never stinks…Coincidence, I think not.

Gear:
-Small: 2 Pistol magazines (18 bullets each), Lighter, spray paint can, Walkie Talkie
-Medium: USP tactical Handgun, Beretta 92FS Elite handgun
-Large: Machette

Personality: Ignot is not a quiet man, but he is not a loud one either. He speaks when he needs to and not much more after that. He hardly drinks, he never smokes (obviously), and he rarely takes part in what he deems as ‘games’. He keeps to himself mostly, watching interactions from afar, the cold red lenses always watching. If you ever do get him in a conversation, he never talks about himself. Hardly anyone knows who he was or where he came from, besides Russia. Part of that is because he feels that he has started over. This infection is a bad thing, sure, but it gave him an opportunity to start over again, to try to help people instead of killing them. As far as he is concerned, the past is past and there is no use going back to it.

He may not talk a lot, but he is not a cold person by any means. While he can turn his emotions off to get something done, he will not just shun some one in need. If he can help, he will. But he knows when something is useless or a lost cause and will not pursue the issue further. On the rare occasion he gets so pissed he starts to yell, it is an extreme terror for anyone on the receiving end of it. After he is done, he will walk away and vent on anything, breaking things, shooting thing (mostly zombies), but he will come back later and try to reconcile. He hates to blow up and feels horrible each time it happens.

In any case, he is loyal to those he deems friends and will do anything for them. He has a fierce honor code and will not lift a hand to women or children. But his one rule is, never touch the mask. If you do, he will immobilize you and ask you politely not to do it again. Not many friends are left, but these survivors seem to follow him and to trust in him. He’s not going to let them down.

History: Ignot was known as Illaron Oksyutik before the infection, born in Moscow to a moderately wealthy family. But he was born with a weaker immune system than most, so he had to say inside lot, or keep a surgeon’s mask on when he left the house. His father, an underboss in the Russian Mob, was a very powerful man and took care of his family as much as he could. However, soon after Ignot turned 5, his father was killed in a horrible shooting of a rival gang. Action was taken quickly and Ignot and his mother were moved to a safe house in America, but as a condition of the move, his mother asked that they not bo associated with the mob afterward, in case some of the newer guys in America decided to rat them out. It was considered and accepted, at the disdain of the bosses, but they figured that the pair wouldn’t cause trouble. She enrolled Ignot in school and tried to start a new life in America. But of course, because of Ignot’s mask and his broken English, he was picked on and teased constantly.

As he moved up in the school ranks, the bullies became too much for him. He talked to a few of the Mob member and asked them to train him. They laughed at him initially, but he punched one of the members in the mouth. This lead to a beating, but an older member of the mob watched him, then helped him up, telling him that he had something these new kids didn’t have. Maverat, his name was. Maverat decided to train the boy with the help of some of the other older members.

Years went by and he became stronger, he was introduced to weapons and how to use them, close combat, and even how to look more intimidating. He bought a painter’s mask, thinking of it more like a gas mask and modified it to filter the air coming in better, and painted it a midnight black. Using his new found knowledge, in school, instead of approaching the bullies one by one, he stalked them, waiting until they were alone to ambush them and beat them.

One by one they fell. But the last one was a bit more intelligent then the rest. As Ignot ambushed him, the bully whipped out a knife he had stolen and fought back. Ignot was hit a few times, but he managed to wrestle the knife away and stabbed the kid in the throat. Ignot watched as the kid slowly bled to death, and he was surprised. He enjoyed this. Watching the life drain out of the bully’ face, eyes slowly close after agonizing minutes of bleeding out. It was entertaining. At that moment, his life was decided. He talked to the old men and asked them to let him kill. It wasn’t too long before he was a hitman for the mob.

Ignot does not even remember his first hit. Or his second. The beginning years were all of blur. He killed, got paid, and went home. His mother knew he was working for the mob, but she said nothing as she watched Ignot spiral into a bottomless well of insanity and bloodlust. Soon, those kills were no longer good enough for him. He wanted a challenge, a mark worthy of his skills. They gave it to him. He had to kill the boss of a rival family. He did it. Not much to say. But what got the old men was that he killed everyone in the house. Men, women, guards, guests, bosses, servants. No one in that house survived. As he walked out, he set the house on fire as well. The old men knew they had to get rid of him, but he was too good.

He got home later on that week and talked to his mother, who confronted him about the mob. He didn’t react at first, brushing it off as a mother thing. But as she pressed more and more, he go angrier and angrier. Eventually, he stood up, slapped her so hard she fell to the floor. Looking up at shock to him, he realized then, what he had become. He was willing to strike the very woman who had given birth to him. The person who loved him no matter what. Who gave so much to care for him and his bodily defect, and he was willing to hit her.

He stood up and walked out of the house, directly to the old men. He demanded to be let out and just to walk away. But he knew too much. He knew that the old men were planning to take back the mob from the young men; he knew locations, addresses, names, faces. He had to be taken care of. They all pulled guns and started shooting. He jumped out of the 3rd story window and landed, hard. Limping as fast as he could, he tried to get away on a broken leg but Maverat caught up to him. Spinning him around, Maverat pressed a gun barrel against his chest and whispered ‘This will help you get out. When you recover, run.’

The bullet barely missed his heart.

He woke up a month later in a hospital bed, no one in sight. Pulling out of the bed carefully, he slipped on his mask to see what was going on. The man next to his bed, a cloth draped over his body, started to move and claw at him. Briefly struggling at the shock of it, he grabbed a pen and thrust it into the man’s heart, knowing that it would kill him. But, to his horror, the man just kept clawing at him, trying to get the blanket off of him. Grabbing the small metal table next to the bed, he beat the man about the head and shoulders until he moved no more.

Ignot locked the door and lay in his bed. HE thought of his past, of his future now, and of the regrets he had. But after staring at the body of his victim, he decided. His life was over. This was the beginning for him once again. A way to shed the regrets and doubts of his past life, but to change and do it differently. This was his chance. Unlocking the door and dragging the closest corpse in, he stripped him and got dressed. Donning his red sunglasses, Ignot looked into the mirror. Using a knife, he cut off all of his hair as best as he could. Walking outside, he noticed a small lockbox that was ajar. It had his guns and ammo in there. Filling his pockets and grabbing a walkie talkie from a dead policeman nearby, he was ready to start his new life. The life as Ignot.

I'm going to rewrite my character, if that's okay.

It'll still be Alex, but I find her story retarded now. :B

I think I'll use my same character. Though I will update him to be more in depth and somewhat more useful.

Now, if the characters continue, then please do not introduce major changes to them, as i plan on keeping the story from the original and pressing forward. Don't let this ostracize the new players though, we will fit you in!

since I've been mulling over what to change, I've decided against it and changed very little. I'll repost it here in a sec.

Also, is this going to be in the winter teim? :B Because I'll change the appearance of my character, too. I know it says "Silent Frost" I just want to make sure. It'd make things more interesting.

Yes. We last left our brave heros in the dead of winter in Philadelphia. So change accordingly.

Sweet. Here are my changes.

Name: Alexandria Rogers
Nickname (If any): Alex, Shorty (only by Ignot)
Age: 17
Pre-infestation profession: High-school student (Senior)
Height: 5' 5"
Weight: 115 lbs
Eye Color: Left eye: Blue, Left eye: Brown.
Hair Color: Short and dark brown
Personal skills: Picks locks, swings baseball bat, and somewhat decent with a gun (But, she doesn't ever want to touch a gun ever again.) She's more spontaneous than Ignot is. She’s also taking a liking to the guitar since there’s nothing else to do, though she prefers the drums.
Jobs in the apartment: Co-Leader with Ignot; smart ass

Physical appearance: Not very tall for her age, Alex has a hard time getting respect. Not because of her height, but because of her sex.  But, you should be careful. She may be small, but she’s quick and knows how to swing a bat that’ll cause a zombie’s head to fly out of the ballpark. She wears baggy blue jeans, hiking boots, a grey long sleeve shirt with a red shirt, a black coat, a black pilot hat, and gloves.

Gear: Small: A journal, flashlight, Walkie-Talkie, and empty 9MM clip, and 4 C batteries.
Medium: Water bottle and a small pouch-like bag to carry everything
Large: A Silver Metal Bat.

Personality: Despite her age, Alex has seen a lot more than one would think. She rude, obnoxious, a liar, but she knows how to survive. For some reason, quiet Ignot and herself get along, which would never happen. Ignot is more of a strong, silent type, while she’s loud and outgoing. The two of them make fun of each other and get into mischief; Alex and Ignot are the only ones that probably have the sanest friendship (insane to the rest) after the outbreak. She speaks her mind and won’t take ‘no’ for an answer. However, in recent times, she’s learned to calm down and to listen to what others are saying. She will speak her mind sometimes, but since the death of Mr. Matheson, she has learned to listen and follow orders.

History:

I managed to append my character and I like what he has become.

Name: Sebastian Hartmann
Nickname (If any): Bastian
Age: 24
Height: 6' 1"
Weight: 195 lbs.
Eye Color: Hazel
Hair Color: Brown
Pre-infestation profession: Writer
Personal skills: Fountain of information (both useful and useless), basic survival and first aid skills
Jobs in the apartment: Storyteller

Physical appearance: He looks like what a normal person whould think of when you tell them to think of a writer. Average height and somewhat scrawny build. Though, on closer inspection, one whould find that he is not a scrawny as he looks, having well-defined muscles and a solid air about him.

He has hair of a length down to his center back which he wears in a tight braid and a rough goatee. His clothes consist of a pair of worn blue jeans, a solid black t-shirt, and a dark blue long-sleeved button down shirt. Over these he wears a cloak of rough canvas when outside as well as a gray floppy hat. Due to it now being winter, he also wears a nice long wool scarf and a sturdy pair of work boots.

Gear:
-Small: 2 boxes of .357 cartridges (20 per box), Notebook and pencil, lighter, a copy of his first novel "Adrift in the Sea of Time"
-Medium: .357 Colt King Cobra, flashlight
-Large: Lead pipe

Personality: He is the kind of guy that laughs in the face of anything. The kind that will have a smile on his face no matter what the situation and always will. He will try to raise anyone's spirit up when he thinks it can be done even if the insist for him not too. He is just a straight forward and honest type of guy. Though he does seem to have an odd sense of humor, some might even call him grim in cases.

He is the kind that will try to help with just about any problem that can come up. And due to his learning, he can most likely come up with an answer. Though sometimes, they tend to be quite long-winded and even difficult to understand at time.

History: From his early childhood, Sebastian know that he was different from his peers. He loved books more than anything else in his world. While other kids spent their time with sports and the like, he spent his time reading. He read anything he could get his hands on. Classics, comics, how-to books, survival manuals, history, everything. It was through this that he determined that he wanted to be a writer in his future. At age 10, at the start of middle school for him, he became a student librarian at his schools library. In high school, he furthered this by finding a job at his towns public library. All the while working through countless ideas for a novel of his own.

Fast forward several years and Sebastian has graduated from college with a degree in literature, pursuing his life's dream, he became a freelance writer, writing short stories for magazines, all the while working on his first novel. He situated himself in an apartment complex in the city of Baltimore. It was here that an idea was born and his novel began to take shape. He soon found an editor by the name of Jolynn who helped him finish his novel and push it for publication. And as it was set to go to market, the whole world went to chaos. The zombie outbreak had begun. It began with the cries of people in the streets.

Sebastian had been up celebrating his novel with Jolynn and publisher, so he had no idea what to make of the scene he saw when he pulled back the curtains covering the window looked out that morning. There were people everywhere, several were running down the roads, while several times more were slowly shambling down the road in pursuit. He watched as a straggler got caught and torn limb from limb by this crowd. He slowly, replaced the curtains and sat on the ground, curling into a fetal position rocking gently back and forth, saying it was all just a dream with a grin on his face trying to convince himself that this wasn't happening. It was Jolynn that snapped him out of his daze and got him moving. They used the roof access hatch to get outside and from there, made their way across the close roofs of the housing district to make it to a near-by market. They raided the place, grabbing food and stuffing it into bags, before leaving and heading to a high raise office building.

Once inside, they met up with others who had taken shelter in the building. Together, they fortified the building. Blocking the lower level stair cases and setting up watches just in case something happened. They distributed the food and were doing well for themselves for awhile. Days passed as the zombies took over the city, killing those caught outside and effectively preventing any help from getting in. With food running short, Sebastian believed that the group of survivors had to leave their fortifications and head out into the city in search of food and other useful items.  Many were against this idea. Soon though, a guard at one of the rear doors went missing. Then others began to vanish as well. Sebastian decided that they all needed to stay in a group and to make sure that everyone was armed with something. He himself, picked up a length of pipe that was lying about from one of their barricades.

They managed to last several more days, before the lack of food became apparent, his party was fading. Then late one night, the group was assaulted by zombies from the same door that was to be used as their escape route. They were overwhelmed. Sebastian was the only one who managed to escape from the attack, but he had little food or water and was stuck in the center of a city infested with the undead. He slowly managed to escape the city, moving from shelter to shelter. Once free of the city, Sebastian survived on the knowledge he had gleamed during his life and what little he could salvage while avoiding large groups of both people and zombies. On one of his salvaging missions, he managed to come across a working .357 Colt revolver and two boxes of cartridges. He soon grew to appreciate the fact that his life had been spared, and relished his ability to smile at the face of death.

I've been dying to get back into RP's. I hope this suffices! Lemme know if anything is wrong.

Name: Leland Parker
Age: 23
Height: 5’-9”
Weight: 130lbs
Eye Color: blue
Hair Color: brown
Pre-infestation profession: Student/ Corpsman-in-training
Personal skills: Dexterous hands for skilled work, has become quite good at disassembling and maintaining firearms, though he is not the best shot. Medical skills, a fast runner with fairly high endurance
Jobs in the apartment: Lookout, Medic
Physical appearance: (At least 2 paragraphs): Leland is Caucasian, tall and wiry with long arms and legs. Despite his lanky appearance, he is an accomplished runner and crew-team member. He has shaved his hair into a low Mohawk. He wears a white zip-up hoodie with a brown suede jacket over it, black jeans, black boots, a grey scarf and a brown cabbie’s hat. He literally only has the clothes on his back.

Gear:
-Small: Leatherman multi-tool, two box of 9mm ammunition (20 rounds), two boxes of 7.62x39 (20 rounds each)
-Medium: Glock 26 compact pistol, survival kit (purification tablets, signal mirror, matches, high carb snacks, etc.)
-Large: Navy Corpsman’s Medical Bag (backpack), “Sporterized” SKS-M Carbine w/sling

Personality: While he tries to appear tough, Leland is a pushover. He talks very little and when he does, he stutters and speaks with a southern drawl. As a result, he tries to endear himself to people with his generosity and skill set. He tends to relax when he hums old songs.
Before the outbreak, he was applying to the Navy to become a Navy Medical Corpsman. Because of this, he takes his medical duties very seriously; all of his nervousness disappears when he is called upon to help.

History:
Born in rural Louisiana, Leland never saw much outside of his own neighborhood. Pot lucks with the neighbors, hunting trips with his father’s friends, dances with the young ladies, and trips to New Orleans for Mardi Gras made up the brunt of his social experiences. An only child, Leland’s parents drove the importance of friendship into his mind; luckily, many of his peers found his quiet, gentleman-like manner refreshing.
He excelled at sciences and biology in school and joined Track and Field in high school, later adding Crew to his activities while in college. He studied medical sciences in college; he wanted to be a pediatrician. One day, he reconnected with an old friend who had joined the Navy a few years earlier. He was a Navy Corpsman- a combat medic. Leland listened to his stories excitedly and called a recruiter the next morning. He wanted to join for several reasons. He wanted to expand his medical knowledge and he wanted to help others with his skills, but mostly: he wanted to change his quiet, meek self. His studied on his own, unable to wait for his training.
While waiting for his deployment to BMT, Leland agreed to take a road trip with friends as a “going away” present. Their trip would bring them to New York City and back. But things went terribly wrong.
After getting lost in West Virginia, Leland and his three friends-one of which was his girlfriend of two years-opted to stay in a motel and start afresh the next morning. Taking two rooms, they began to drink, party, and enjoy themselves. Leland opted to turn in early and fell asleep in the other room. Some time later, he awoke to screams. Someone had mistaken a noise at the door for him, and let in something else. He heard screams for help through the walls and someone was pounding at his door, but he was frozen, terrified, helpless. He has never forgiven himself for his weakness and begs for forgiveness every day.
After escaping the motel, he managed to survive day-to-day by scavenging and looting houses for supplies and trading his medical services to groups of survivors for protection. After a few months, he managed to arm himself and retrieved a Corpsman’s pack from an overturned troop carrier. Knowing that such a find was a sign, he decided to push north; to Pennsylvania.

As much as i didn't want soldiers in this, you have crafted a very balanced character. He's not uber soldier, but he's competent. And he's not charismatic as all get out either. I like him. Play him well.

Approved.

Awesome, but you don't need to worry: he wanted to become a soldier, but he never even made it to boot camp.  ;D

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: Cheez on December 16, 2009, 04:39:49 am
Name: Harold Glade
Nickname: Harry
Age: 46
Height: 5'10
Weight: (Sorry, I have absolutely no idea. Uh, whatever the average weight for that height is, minus a bit.)
Eye Color: Green
Hair Color: Greying reddish brown
Pre-infestation profession: Homeless, busker.
Personal skills: 'Urban survival', shall we say? He's damn good at scavenging and finding shelter, he's got good stamina and can hold his own in hand-to-hand combat. He can also be fairly sneaky when he wants to be. He also plays a mean fiddle.
Jobs in the apartment: Scavenger, scout, entertainment.
Physical appearance:
Harry looks like he hasn't changed his clothes since the initial outbreaks. Other than the odd jacket or worn out pair of trousers, he probably hasn't. He certainly hadn't for several years before then. Still, now there's people to watch his back, at least he's a lot cleaner than he once was. He wears army surplus boots, blue jeans, a ratty old Tshirt, a black wool hat and a thick woolen overcoat. He's a fairly scrawny-looking guy, with virtually no fat on him. He's got long, slightly matted hair and an unkempt beard which covers most of his jaw. He carries all of his important posessions (namely, the fiddle, some food and a blanket) in a battered pack that looks almost as old as he is.

Gear:
-Small: Box of .357 ammunition (10 rounds), bag of 12g. shotgun shells (14 shells), zippo-style cigarette lighter, pen knife, hip flask containing whiskey.
-Medium: Colt Trooper .357 magnum revolver, bowie knife
-Large: Sawn-off double barrel shotgun, fiddle.

Personality:
Looking at him, you would think that Harry is a glum, dour man. Truth be told, he just doesn't often display his emotions. He could be heartbroken or completely elated, and he'd be showing the same near-expressionless face. He never tells jokes, but definitely enjoys listening to them. One of his favourite pastimes is playing music on his fiddle. He finds it extremely rewarding to see the reactions of his audience as he plays, giving them something other than the harsh existence they live in, even just for a short time.

He has a strong sense of right and wrong, and tries to act gentlemanly whenever possible. He is extremely loyal to those he considers to be friends. He often has nightmares about his experiences since the chaos began.

History:

Harry Glade had a great life. He came straight out of college and into a high-paying office job, picking up a fancy house, an expensive car and a pretty wife along the way. Yes, life was grand for him.
It turned sour in his mid thirties. His marriage became strained, the once-lovers becoming distant and eventually hostile. Eventually, his wife left him, taking a large chunk of his money with her. He took it badly, drinking a lot and gambling more than he should have. This had an adverse effect on his performance at work, and eventually he was laid off. Unemployed and in debt from the roulette wheel, he soon ran out of money. He sold the car to cover some of his losses, but it wasn't enough. Eventually, he had to leave his house. having nowhere else to go, he turned to the streets. He took with him little more than the clothes on his back and his fiddlewhich he had played in a band in college and kept for sentimental reasons.
He was lucky- with the fiddle and the skills to use it, he had something that many other homeless did not- a source of income, if meagre, and something that gave him pleasure and enjoyment.
Several years passed, during which he learned the skills needed to survive on the street. It was certainly a very different life to the one he'd had previously. More than once, he was forced to defend himself against guys who wanted his earnings to buy drugs or booze.
One night while sleeping in an alley, he was woken by a woman screaming and went to investigate. It sounded like whoever it was was in an adjacent alley, not too far away. He went as quickly as he could, but when he got there there the place was empty. No one around, not even a dropped purse. Shrugging, he went back to his 'bed'.
The next morning, he was awoken again, this time by someone grabbing his arm. He found himself staring into the bloody face of a young Hispanic woman. He recognised her- she was a hooker, sometimes walked the streets not too far from here. Her nose and upper lip were gone, torn off. Harry cried out in surprise and was about to get up to call for help when she realised, she wasn't pleading for aid. It was almost like she was attacking him.
It was when she bit his arm, his thick coat preventing her teeth from doing any damage, that he made his mind up. Harry pushed her away, grabbed his pack and ran for his life. Frantically, he tried to warn people about what was happening, but who listens when a crazy hobo yells that something bad's happening? He was proven right a week or so later, when there was more of them. A lot more.

He spent a long time after that on his own, scavenging for what he needed and avoiding the zombies whenever possible. He armed himself as best he could with weapons taken from the dead. A few months ago, a small group of survivors found him, hearing his fiddle playing and drawn to the sound. He's stayed with them since, glad to have some human company.

(I don't know if this is still open, buuuuut....fuck it)

Name: Frank Holstenski
Nickname (If any): Franky
Age: 33
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 183 lbs
Eye Color: Green
Hair Color: Black
Pre-infestation profession: Construction Worker
Personal skills: Has used his professional background to effectively hole up places thought "un-holdable". He can also swing a crowbar real nice like.

Physical appearance: Franky Holstenski is a short barrel of a man whose thinning black hair, wild black beard and beady green eyes give off the appearance of a dwarf. His thick neck, arms and legs compliment his wide torso and go to show that 15 years of being a construction worker who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty can be a pleasant reward to your body.

Franky isn't one for fashion and he is often seen on and off the job in a tshirt, some jeans and a pair of steel toed boots. His head, when not being covered with a hard hat, is a quickly dissolving patch of thin black hair. His face, in stark contrast to his head, is a jungle. His beard is a point of pride and he is constantly grooming it to viking standards. Besides his beard, Frankys sense of hygiene is absent.

Gear:
-Small: Maglite, hard hat, box of nails, hammer, screwdriver
-Medium: canteen, tool belt to keep tools in
-Large: crowbar

Personality: Franky is "a damn proud pollack and you better believe that or I'ma smack ya in the face". His loud and boisterous persona helped him move quickly through the ranks of the contruction worker and before he hit his 10 year mark, he was already the foreman at almost all the sites he went to. Surprisingly, most people take his rambunctious-ness as kind-hearted and playful. For the most part, that's the case. The zombies didn't change much, If anything, his demeanor has been reinforced. Franky believes it is important to present a strong outside to the hopeless situation around him. His friends and family are all gone and he has chosen to keep going and not let the past bog him down. Despite this, he has been known to take "downers" to help ease the dreams he has when he sleeps.

History: Frank Holstenski was born to a tall, skinny Polish man, one Jefferey Holstenski and a short, square Irish woman named Mary O'Connor. When he was 6, his mother died of a ruptured appendix. He doesn't much remember his mother and his father would say that's not an entirely bad thing. What Frank does remember of his child hood is the beer cans on the floor at his dads 1 bedroom flat and two hands angrily slapping a belt together. When Frank was 8, he was beaten by his dad until the neighbors came up and interfered. He was taken to the hospital and when they asked what had happened, he insisted that he fell off a ladder trying to screw in a lightbulb. The doctors obvious reluctance to release the boy only deepened when Franks father came to pick him. His overly-nice and thankful demeanor was unsettling and, Frank suspected, a pre-cursor to another beating. He was right. At age 16, Franks dad went to him again (they were arguing over Frank getting a job to support the home) and Frank punched his old man right in the nose. Turns out his old man had a glass jaw. When his father woke up a couple of hours later with blood running down from his nostrils, he demanded Frank to "pack up your shit, you're out of here. Ain't no son of mine".
For 2 years Frank struggled to finish high school and live on the streets. Needless to say, life on the tough streets of Northview Heights woke Frank up to a lot of things and Frank found himself in fights nearly everyday. Despite that, he didn't let it affect his high school life and started to develop that loud personality. No matter how shitty life gets, he decided, I will never let it show. He found his personal solace in shop class. Everyday would be like a new adventure for him. He quickly became acquainted with the teacher on a professional level and when it came time to graduate, the teacher had already hooked Frank up with a job at Rycon construction down in central Pitts near the university. "Hey kid, ya got potential. Go get yourself a job and get yourself a degree. The goddamned place is right around the corner from the university."
Frank became known as a gregarious and well-liked man and his strength on the job, despite his stature, was impressive. His ability to endure an entire days work and not take any breaks was so well known that by the time his second year ended with Rycon, he was working shifts as a supervisor. His expertise and handling of equipment was well above everyone elses par and he often joked around with his buddies that he was born on a scaffolding brace instead of a hospital bed. Even though Frank was well liked ("Hey Franky, let's go out and get us some beers and some loosey womens huh?"), Frank liked to keep to himself off the job. Instead of going out and getting shitfaced with his co-workers, he opted to go home and read or go the South Side Iron Works gym (where he had volunteered to do an add-on in the back for free and was now welcome there for free) and hit the weights. He always manage to come up with an excuse as to why he couldn't participate in the partying ("Sorry boys, I had to do a walk around at that site down at Carey and 20th with the safety guy. After hours unpaid bullshit you lazy schmucks wouldn't wanna do").
Two years before the outbreak occured, Frank had been finally decided to take his old shop teachers advise and go to college. While he was going he met a girl there named Summer Wieczorek. They started what might be seen as a tentative relationship or what might been seen as an awkwardly close friendship. Franks gruff manner and loud voice was completely contradicted by Summer's quiet voice and shy demeanor. Even still, Frank lost himself in her beautiful blue eyes more times than he could count.
Of course that relationship was ruined when the zombies came. Frank was walking home from work (the streets were oddly empty for Polish Hill...maybe that's what had put him on edge) to meet Summer at his apartment. Frank isn't the smartest guy around so when the first one staggered up to him and tried to pull his arm up to that bloody mouth, Frank decked it in the face and put it on the floor. He muttered a couple of things about how nasty the drunk smelled and continued to walk. Then he started to notice the groaning. He got to his apartment building in a hurried jog and ran up the stairs to his thrid floor residence. The door leading to his room was half splattered with blood. Frank's heartbeat drastically jumped as his fist clenched around the door knob. He slowly pushed it in and stepped inside. After a cautioned glance around, Frank shut the door behind him and locked it. The apartment looked as it was before he had gone to work that day and there wasn't a sign of Summer.
The rest is history. Frank has been looking for Summer since that day and adapted quickly to the zombies. Fortunately he had seen enough movies to know that people eating people and people not dying when being sliced open with a knife so that their innards spilled out was was a sure sign of zombies. Deep down he knows that Summer is probably lost but his heart still has that seed of hope to find the person he ever really connected with.

Hokay, so I have kind of a bold idea, Sarge, and since you're the main man behind this, you obviously get the final say, but here goes.

Name: Bethany Northrup
Nickname (If any): Mama Betty (Anthony), Beth
Age: 32
Height: 5' 5"
Weight: 110 lbs.
Eye Color: Hazel
Hair Color: Brown
Pre-infestation profession: Elementary School Teacher
Personal skills: Bethany has a natural affinity to young people that borders on empathic. She knows how to prevent heated conversations from erupting, and has arbitrated her fair share of settlements, both between children and adults. Though arts and crafts can seem unlikely to be a useful skill, she also knows how to weave a mean basket.
Jobs in the apartment:
Physical appearance: Bethany shows her 32 years on this Earth proudly, but humbly. Her hair is just above shoulder length, oftentimes tied in a bun. Her hazel eyes light up when she speaks, though there is a noticeable shadow beginning to dull their spark. Her button nose, soft skin, and soft lips speak to a woman who has aged well, with the beginning of crow's feet and other wrinkles forming due to recent events. Her body hints at a formerly healthy amount of weight, slowly being lost with the struggle for survival. Despite the weight loss, her frame speaks of a well-toned body that can hold its own.
Bethany wears modest attire most of the time, mostly out of habit of her career. A casual knit shirt covers her average chest (a blessing during these trying times), and a sweater keeps the cold out and the eyes of roving scavengers away. A shin-length, detachable skirt, knee-length shorts, and sturdy walking shoes complete her average outfit. When preparing for a dangerous mission or long trek, she generally ties up her hair, and removes all but the most essential articles to keep from being caught by grasping hands. She is proud of her appearance, but will not hesitate to forsake it in lieu of survival.

Gear:
-Small: Hairbrush, hand sanitizer ("Hygiene is still important, even now. If you don't have your health, you don't have anything."), matchbook (contains 15 sticks), Pocket Bible, Joy's copy of Aesop's Fables
-Medium: Beretta 9mm (taken from a stray corpse), Ice Pick
-Large: Home-made haversack (Able to hold most small and medium gear), Crowbar

Personality: Bethany is not a meek individual, despite what her appearance might bely. She has an iron will and tenacity that has allowed her to maneuver the zombie infested land with little difficulty. She is a kind, caring individual, however, and has on many occasions put herself at personal risk for the sake of others. She cannot let a cry for help go unanswered without exhausting all possible options, including those that endanger herself. Despite this very dangerous trait, she has managed to take care of herself, and others, on her personal crusade to lead humanity from this Hell on Earth.
She is not a religious fanatic, but she does believe that God has unleashed these demons, made by Man's own devices, to test His children and see if they are worthy of the planet they walk on. Her faith, and her personal resolve, keeps her body strong and her spirits high. Deep down, however, she wonders if she is but to be one more unworthy sinner witness to His wrath. Only He has the answer, however, and she will not go down without a fight.
History: Bethany Northrup was born to an average Midwestern American family. She was the first child out of three attempts, and her parents loved her unconditionally. Her early years were spent emulating her mother, Joy Westfield Northrup, who ran a neighborhood day care. Joy was part of a community that believed in sharing knowledge, and to the little ones she gave the knowledge of morality and faith. Every day, the children would gather around the wool carpet and listen to "Mama Joy's" verses and fables.
As Bethany grew up, she continued to follow her mother's teachings, following the very teachings she learned when little Joseph Northrup, Jr. entered the world as she began middle school. While Joseph Sr. paid his dues for his families, and Joy continued her daycare, young Bethany raised Joseph Jr. as she would if he was her very own. This mothering quality stayed with her throughout high school, where she was known as the girl anyone could go to. Long ago, she had decided to follow this trait, and centered her education to become a teacher. While on the way, she found young love in a high school sweetheart named Paul.
Joseph Sr. would later announce at her wedding reception that, "My son and I couldn't be more blessed, with two beautiful women watching over us. She made a fine mother to us, and she'll be a grander mother to her own." Unfortunately, it was revealed shortly after her honeymoon that Bethany was barren. Rather than drown in grief, she took it as a sign from the Father that she was meant to be a mother not to her own, but to all. She focused on her studies, while Paul carried out the traditional role of bread winner. She kept close ties with her family, and visited regularly, especially as her mother fell ill with a terminal cancer.
Eventually, Paul's work led them further away, and Bethany found work at a public elementary school. Bethany loved her work, and her children loved her.
That was when the outbreak began. Bethany had just received word of her mother's passing the night before, and as the morning began, she took out the old yellowed copy of Aesop's Fables that Joy had used to bring morality to her daughter so many years before. She intended to share that gift with her children, in honor of her mother. She was halfway through The Tortoise and The Hare when the screams began. She told everyone to remain calm and stay in their seats, even as gunfire could be heard rattling outside. Opening the door of the classroom, Bethany looked out into the hallway, just as a pair of blazing red eyes stepped before her. An explosion from the opposite wall sent the children running in panic as Bethany fell, paralyzed.
Her nights are forever replaying the horrible image of that day, as she saw her children being consumed by the undead. It was a miracle she did not die herself, and was determined to make use of it. Now she leads her only child in search of other lost souls, and one way or another, she will make sure Hell's debt is paid in full.

Name: Anthony Fleming
Nickname (If any): Tony, Little Bear (Bethany)
Age: 9
Height: 4' 3"
Weight: 60 lbs.
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Black
Pre-infestation profession: Child
Personal skills: Anthony's biggest advantage in this new world is his size, which allows him to reach places most adults could never get into, and most undead can't force themselves through. His light weight also means he is able to piggyback and not be too much of a hindrance, so long as the person is in good shape.
Jobs in the apartment:
Physical appearance: Little Anthony is an average boy. His skin is a light tan, natural pigmentation. His face is round, but not fat. With large eyes, a button nose, and two loose front teeth, Anthony has sometimes been likened to a teddy bear, particularly with the surprising amount of "fur" on his head.
Anthony is usually seen walking around with whatever articles of clothing Bethany can find. What she does find, she makes fit him. What she can't find, she makes for him. This includes a shirt, jeans or pants, one very worn jacket, and shoes.

Gear:

-Small: Pack of cards (Baseball Stars on the back), 16 pack of crayons, Lighter
-Medium: Mini-LED flashlight
-Large: Aluminum Junior Softball Bat

Personality: Anthony has a very curious mind, even after the horrors he has witnessed. He knows things are not supposed to be this way, and he wonders what happened to make it so. He is completely and utterly attached  to "Mama Betty" and is rarely away from her side unless told otherwise from Bethany herself. Even when running into other survivors, Anthony hides behind Bethany until she lets him know it is okay to come out.
He is still trying to understand exactly why he cannot go back home and see his family, and he will break down and cry at times until Bethany comes along and reminds him that "Father will see us through." He has never met this Father she speaks of, but she trusts Bethany, and he knows if he stays with her, everything will be alright.
History: Anthony Fleming was born to disturbingly distant parents. They raised him as a baby, but never really bonded with him. Being Atheists, they never educated him in religion, instead attempting to instill in him a sense of finality. Being a child, he understood none of this, and lived his life as much as his parents allowed, learning his grammar, vocabulary, and other essential skills in public school. Then he met Bethany.
With "Mama Betty", Anthony felt a warmth he'd never noticed with his parents, and she quickly became his favorite teacher. He would find every excuse to come to school early or stay late, just so he could be near Bethany. It was through Betty that he first heard of the Holy Father, though he still didn't quite understand. One day, Anthony noticed Bethany seemed quieter than usual, but she said she had a special treat for them all, and brought out an old book. Anthony listened with rapt attention as she read the fables to the class, not even noticing the noises until she stopped.
He listened to her as she told everyone to stay put, even as the gunfire rattled outside. Even as she fell to the ground. Even as his classmates ran out screaming and into the waiting arms of strange looking adults that scared him. He listened to Bethany and stayed there, until Bethany got up, looked around the room in a panic, and ran over to him. She picked him up, and he held onto her tight as she ran out the door, past the strange adults that were stooping over his classmates.....

Xanatos, i think you have really captured a zombiepocalypse from a normal person's standpoint here. These are both solid characters. Approved and i will PM you soon.

On a side note, the updates for the main story should be expected anywhere from Mon-Wendsday. These are my days on the computer all day and the best time for me to post. So until then, make goodie with the other characters. Elaborate on the places you are in, make the place seem like an apocalypse instead of a fortitifed bunker in North Philly...

Oh wait... >.>

Thanks for the complment, Sarge, I appreciate it. :D

The real trick will be to see if I can stay true to the characters. I'll admit there are times when I create personas I can't myself fully represent. I'll do my best, though, you can count on that. *salutes*

Well yeah, same here. But every now and then, you make a character so completely different to yourself that you just can't play as them.

EDIT-

Harry even looked away, looking to the others for a little support. But eventually, his gaze directed back to Ignot.

I know you're the GM and all, but it really pisses me off when people tell me what my character does. Even were it not the sort of thing Harry would do, I would still have done the opposite of what you said he did, simply to be contrary just because you said it.

Okay, well i apologize for the slight. As a GM i encourage light control on player characters because in my 8 years of experience in running and playing games, too many people bog down waiting for someone to do a simple task. That kind of action isn't that big of a deal, but it will not happen again.

Again, apologizes.

Everyone but Kai and Trista. Only reason they stayed is because Trista won't leave and Kai is there to make sure she doesn't try to kill herself or something.

Here are the Pair ups, just so ya know.

1) Alex and Liam
2) Billie and Harold
3) Sebastian and Jason
4) Ignot and Leeland

And just for mentions,

5) Kai and Trista.

I'm not going to control what happens in the building, so make it up as you go. No serious wounds or explosions, please, lol.

As for the other three survivors on the twelfth floor, after we get to some of the higher levels you'll hear the scavenging. Just remember, You can't tell if we are raiders or not. No laws exists that we can't just kill you and take your food. Remember that while you write.

Wow, okay sorry for the double post, but i am kinda worried about the lack of posting. I understand that you guys need direction, but the reason i have this so open ended right now is that i don't have the time to hold everyone's hands through this one. I was hoping that you guys would step up to this little sandbox experiment i had and really show your improv skills. So please, post soon, because i can't right now (a metric shit ton of homework is breaking my back) and i'm counting on your devotion to this idea to keep it running for now.

Hey guys. I am kind of new to the board and all that, but not so new to forum RP (or PR) and I am definitely not new to The Zombie Hunters. I have read through and have been following Those Left Behind (not the old one, but this one) and have decided that I'd like to join in, if it's possible. Maybe you guys can find me?

This is not a character that is typical of me and the story I created is admittedly a bit bland for what I usually like, but it still goes well and won't affect gameplay, I'm sure. Sarge, if you could check it out and give me your thoughts. Thanks!

Name: Kenneth Grigsby, Jr.
Nickname: Kenny
Age: 23
Height: 5’9’’
Weight: 176
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Brown
Pre-infestation profession: Mechanic (Automobiles and farming), truck driver (18 wheeler)
Personal skills: Automobile mechanic and general “around the yard” work, farming, truck driving
Jobs in the apartment: N/A

Physical appearance: Kenneth stands five foot nine and weighs in between 175 and 180 pounds. On any regular Alabama day, he’d be wearing a dingy work T-shirt with a pair of your run-of-the-mill work jeans and a pair of work boots. Some days he may even have coveralls, but rain or shine, he’s always wearing a trucker style cap over a full head of short, messy brown hair with the cap tilted up just a touch over his cleanly shaven face.

Kenneth is very easy on the eyes. At a young twenty three years and a lot of mechanical and yard work, his strong body and clear brown eyes have been the talk of many a local belle, nothing to say of his gentlemanly personality and obvious love for his family.

Gear:-Small: Small case of shotgun shells (7 left), canteen, jar of peanut butter (crunchy!)
-Medium: Super Redhawk .454 Casull (revolver, empty), Hammer
-Large: Non-descript sawn off double barrel shotgun, backpack

Personality: Kenneth is a good ol’ boy and family man, a real southern gentleman. He is kind, honest, friendly, helpful, neighborly and even comely when he isn’t working in the yard or fiddling with the fixer uppers, which is rare.

History: Kenneth was born and raised in a very rural little town called Marbury in the state of Alabama and lived with his parents Kenneth Grigsby, Sr., who was a truck driver, and Shirley-Ann Grigsby, who was a nurse, and with his one-year-younger brother, James and his one-year-older sister, Tanya. He learned at a young age the importance of obedience and etiquette, for what it is worth in the south.

Growing up, Kenneth attended Marbury High School (though it was a school that catered from kindergarten to graduation), a small school with roughly 200 students. He made decent grades and spent a good amount of time outside spinning the baseball field dirt, trimming up the football field and doing other tasks that would not be common of students in most schools. He learned quickly how to operate the machinery around the school and found a desire to learn more. Often times after school, he would work on a couple of old beat up trucks and sedans with his father, who also taught him how to shoot rifles and shotguns and would take him hunting, camping and fishing.

After Kenneth graduated (with fair but not exceptional grades), he became a mechanic for 2 years. It was during this time that Kenneth became the most social and well-known for his kindness and loyalty. Keeping that Marbury is a small town, most people, after hearing about Kenneth’s upbeat personality and fine handiwork, decided to bring their cars to him come oil-changing and tire rotation time. Often times, the local folk would inquire as to why Kenneth never tried dating any of the obviously interested girls. “I’m a sucker for my work” was the usual response.

After being a mechanic for two years, Kenneth’s father inquired about him driving trucks for the local food mart, to which Kenneth accepted. For three years Kenneth drove for the food mart, having plenty of road time combined with plenty of home time with his family and his fixer uppers, which was perfectly fine by him. During this time, his brother James was working for a local hunter’s lodge and pawn and his sister Tanya had finally married her high school sweetheart, who got a big time job at a law firm in the biggest city in Pennsylvania… Philadelphia. Life could not be better for Kenneth and his family and friends. He had a job he enjoyed and a family he loved and cherished.

One day, Kenneth was called to do a series of routes and shifts around the south during a busy and hectic part of the year. He had done a few of these before and knew they would take about a week and a half. Luckily he would be teamed up with a buddy from the mart so that the drive was almost non-stop. He called home to check in when he could, sometimes once a day, sometimes once every few days. Oddly enough, one night while Kenneth called to check in, he received no response. The next night, again… no response. The next night… still nothing. Kenneth became worried. He started hearing gossip and chatter over the radios about “crazies” and “loonies,” and still other stories about family not wanting to answer their phones when the truckers would call. He thought it sounded crazy, but was admittedly worried.

Finally the day had come when Kenneth and his driving partner made it back to Alabama. Even with the far-spaced housing and the sparse population of Marbury, something was eerie about the drive back to the food mart. It wasn’t until they pulled into the lot that they realized something was terribly wrong. The glass of the food mart had been cracked and broken in many areas. Smoke came from sections of the store. Cars were in disarray, some wrecked into others, some left with doors wide open. There was blood on the pavement, blood on shopping carts, blood on cars, blood on the glass. There were people… no, not people… lifeless husks, armless, legless, faceless husks lurching and groaning, staring blankly and licking the air. Kenneth knew he needed to get home quickly and immediately ran for his vehicle parked away from the main lot. He never knew what had become of his riding partner.

When Kenneth arrived home that fateful day, his world fell into disarray. His yard had become a shuffling ground for those… zombies. After quickly running inside, he found his mother and father, along with another unidentified individual, dead on the floor of the kitchen. He couldn’t tell what exactly had happened between the bite marks and the gun shot wounds, but he knew he had to get out. Kenneth didn’t know where James was, but he knew he would probably be safe and knew that he couldn’t wait around to see. Kenneth quickly ran into his father’s trophy room and grabbed the first few things he could get his hands on, his father’s Super Redhawk .454 revolver and a sawn off shotgun his father had just fiddled with days before, along with the shells lying next to it.

After Kenneth grabbed what he could, he then had to test his mettle, as a few crawlers had made it inside the house. Using the revolver, he blasted his way outside of the house. Frenetic, he raced for his car, not even really thinking about what he was doing.

Crank.
Gas.
Drive.

It wasn’t until he had got down the road a ways that he decided what to do. Kenneth had made the gut decision, for whatever reason, that he was going to go to Philadelphia. He was going to find Tanya.

Great character, B. I love the southern twang you have going on, though how he got from Alabama to Philly in a car will most likely make for good dinner stories. I really think some good thought went into this character and i hope that you will make a great member of the team.

I think that you could be found, maybe not with the survivors on the 12th floor, but maybe by yourself in the other building. You can play around with the idea, but i give you full permission to post soon.

As for everyone else, we got a good story so far! Let's keep it up! There will be a few zombz in the building, average about 1 per room, lots of dead people, and possibly barricades. Try to get these down.

First Floor: Apartment building Lobby, fairly large, leads to two staircases beside the main desk. Elevators are found behind the stairs. Branches off in two separate directions from the main desk. About 70 feet in either direction, lounge area, card rooms and bathroom, as well as a few very small offices on the first floor.

2nd-12th: Elevators open to same type of construction, one long hallway, several doors, apartments are typically two bedroom, one bath with a large living space and kitchen. Maybe holes knocked into walls, maybe not. Barricaded rooms are infrequent. Several quarantined rooms, plastic over everything and yellow tape. Maybe some bio hazard suit bodies, but mostly civilians. Watch out for special infected.

Any questions?

Question!

Do the teams have orders to take certain floors? i.e. Are Leland and Ignot going anywhere specific (for the sake of my post)?

No specifics as far as moving through the building or certain teams at certain rooms. As far as you and Ignot, we'll take a few offices on the right side.

Hey guys, been a while.

I just roamed back here pretty much on impulse and saw you'd started up Those Left Behind again. I know I haven't been the most consistent member in the past, dropping out of the last one without warning, but if it's okay with Sarge I'd like to jump back aboard where I left off as Liam. I really enjoyed this game the last time around and I'd love to play with you lot again.

Edit: Is the original thread still around? I can't find it. I think I remember most of what went down, but I'd like to refresh my memory.

And yeah, the original thread died with the great forum wipe of '09.

Lol guys. We are supposed to be moving through the building room by room and eliminating zombies. Then, after we are sure that the room is mostly clear, we are going to loot the whole damn place. In this case, we are going to encounter 3 new people as well, so keep that in mind. This is supposed to be quick and just a nice way to get everyone involved in some action for a bit. I got bigger plans past this event, so let band together and get through this!

I appreciate the approval! I would be posting most during the weekdays at work than I would be during the weekends (social creature...), just as a heads up. I will be keeping track, so whenever I am to be found, let me know and I will pick up from there! I should probably start working on a believeable story as to how I got from Alabama to Philly, yeah?   :o

That's really up to Sarge. You should post the character anyway, I'm sure he'd be willing to give you a chance.
Well... Okay, I'll try.
Here we go.

Name: Daniel Johansen
Nickname: Dan, John, Johan
Age: 17
Height: 6' 3"
Weight: 183 lbs
Eye Color: Green
Hair Color: Brown
Pre-infestation profession: Agriculture student studying abroad
Personal skills: Strong will, resourceful, good at improvising in any situation, crafty, solid, cool and logical mind, knows how to keep his own morale to a non-depressed level even in the saddest of situations and can thrive on the smallest of entertainments; everything from jokes to kicking a rock.

Physical appearance: His tall and somewhat slender(partially starved) body is like a Scandinavian stereotype except for his thick brown hair which is crudely cut down short to avoid the grabbing hands of the undead.
He wears a green, filthy hoodie with a regular zipper which allows for quick escape if grabbed. He have gone unshaven long and "fur" grows freely. Even though the world is full of zombies, his hate for tight clothing is apparent due to his loose brown-green pants. His belt is a ammunition belt for shotgun shells.
Years of practical work at the farm have granted him a strong physique which appears to be slowly fading away due to repetitive lack of proper food over a long period of time. His eyes switches between ice cold and rabbit-like nervousness depending on the situation. This impression is strengthened by his pale skin.
He have abandoned hygiene(except for disinfecting) almost entirely. Clean water is more important for drinking.

Gear:
-Small: Batteries, mini-flashlight, Ammo-belt, additional shotgun shells.
-Medium: Carpenter-hammer, disinfectant, M9 bayonet, Kevlar sleeves.
-Large: Double-barreled shotgun.

Personality: He is a somewhat reserved person due to slight social retardation.
The outbreak hit Dan hard mentally. one couldn't really expect -and he didn't expect of himself either- that such a young person would manage to keep his personality fully intact.
But he have still kept his person intact due to his strong will to survive.
He is good at lying but generally prefers not to. If someone asks, especially if they beg, for help then he will undoubtedly help.
He is a natural follower who has no intentions of commanding anyone unless it is necessary for survival.
Usually passive and has a laid back personality. He will however always have the last word in a discussion and will rarely ever give in unless proven completely wrong. Daniel generally dislikes people who won't be reasoned with, something which really came to show when he tried to calm some of the first zombies he encountered.
Not easily riled, he will however explode if anyone gives him angry critique for matters that aren't significant or where the critique is wrong or completely unnecessary.
His humor is very macabre(and become increasingly so) and will thrive on the shock of the audience if not their laughter.
Daniel have, despite his grave situation, become fond of Mercies and will never kill one unless it is fully required(never killed one) just as he'd rather run away from zombified children than finish them, though he cares increasingly less about the age of the zombies.
Will typically whisper the lyrics of his favorite songs to pass time. One verse he started to sing regularly after getting "used" to the outbreak is the chorus from Disturbed-The curse:
"I've held on too long just to let it go now, Will my inner strength get me through it some how? Defying the curse that has taken hold, Never surrender, I'll never be overcome".

His previous social "rule" which was a handicap then has become a somewhat handy rule:
"No one is TRULY your friend before you get to know them, and they you, fully.". This rule saves him from unnecessary bonding and will make him a loyal and trustworthy til-death companion to whoever befriends him. Despite this rule he will not abandon anyone he have come in company to their fate and will protect anyone. This is probably because he won't admit to himself that he is lonely.
Despite his somewhat poor social skills he can let anyone open up to him about anything; from love to depressions. He can listen to people talk for hours and give responses even if the topic is considered "whining" or plain boring he will still enjoy it.

History: Daniel was born to a moderate family in a coastal town in central-Norway. At the age of three, his parents broke up. He lived part time with his mother on a farm in the nearby countryside and partially together with his father in the city, giving him the best qualities from both worlds.
Due to his poor social antennas, Daniel didn't manage to get many friends and was often mocked and excluded from games by other children. He loved to talk and was often nicked "Fountain" due to the "never ending" talking. When he didn't talk, he kept to himself and was completely mute.
After his closest friend moved to another city, Daniel developed the habit of talking to himself loudly, but only in private.
He never knew that it was "socially unacceptable" and an indicator of craziness until years later.
He started to spend more time learning about the world around him and wouldn't be at peace if he knew that there was some common knowledge out there that he was completely ignorant of.
At the age of nine, he was introduced to the English language at school and became obsessed with it. Today he speaks English flawlessly and almost without the typical Norwegian accent.

Over the years he developed a love for History, life, philosophy and science. After a hard day's work he would often sit around and read books or watch documentaries.
Being a Norwegian, Daniel was used to cold temperatures and would rarely mention it being cold outside unless there was a constant temperature of at least -14-17 Celsius. This resistance would later come him in handy. Understandably, he admired Siberians for their toughness.

Around the age of fourteen he reached what he liked to call "The age of reason" which lead to him eventually losing his faith in the supernatural, thus becoming an atheist. He was however admirably tolerant of other people's beliefs from the very beginning and would never call religion "evil" when debating.
He would attend church without problems if there was baptizing, confirmation, weddings or funerals, he improved relations with different people increasingly and started to better get control of the worst parts of his social problems.
Things started to go his way and he became slightly more socially interactive.

When his elder brother joined the military, Daniel decided that he had to become something which demanded him to be active and stay more in movement while doing people a favor.
He decided to become a farmer and after finishing the Norwegian equivalent of high-school he then applied to an agricultural school.
He decided he would study the second year abroad and decided to do so in The United States.
He managed to get into a desired school and got to the US comfortably.
The school provided a lot of learning and interesting experiences but with one gigantic hitch that he hadn't thought about enough. The local area was deeply religious. Having heard and read about many unsettling stories of non-religious students in religious areas who were mistreated and bullied for their beliefs.
Fearing social persecution, Daniel mostly kept to himself and didn't talk about himself at all and would often use his skills of lying whenever questioned about his beliefs or opinions about religious aspects and such.
In the end, this resulted in him not bonding with any person in the area. Whether that would be a curse or a blessing later remains in question.

On the internet he read reports of some strange disease which have appeared and also mass cannibalism. Thinking it was some sort of media over-hype he didn't care much and decided to check later for further reports.
One day he was walking alone past some farms close to the local city.
All of a sudden he hears an enormous ruckus in one of the nearby barns. He sets of to see if someone is in need for help.
Entering the barn, a gush of blood all of a sudden hits his chest. In front of him there is a man biting another in the throat. Daniel yells out and desperately tells the man to stop what he is doing.
The bitten man drops dead to the floor and the attacker slowly turns his head towards Daniel.
The man lacks part of his scalp and his lower lip is missing. The eyes, black and blue, stares hungrily at him.
Daniel screams in horror, quickly grabs a nearby pitchfork and in panic he stabs the man in the chest.
He steps back in horror over what he has done when he suddenly notices that the man isn't dying. It rather seemed like he didn't care much about the pitchfork which had impaled him in the chest and starts to stumble towards Daniel.
Daniel Screams in horror and makes a run for it and doesn't stop before he reaches the nearby city.
He stops by a garage and starts vomiting before a horrible realization hits: "That was a freaking zombie!"
As the adrenaline starts to lower, he starts hearing screams. He see people running in the streets, blood is everywhere and he see a group of people tear someone apart in a manner which made regular butchering of livestock seem like work for sissies.
He ran into the garage and found several firearms with ammunition. It turns out to be more of a workshop.
He picked a shotgun, as it is the only firearm he knows how to operate properly.
He grabbed a hammer and a knife which turned out to be a bayonet.
Before he goes out again he also noticed a pair of sleeves on a desk, he grabs them and discovers them to be light Kevlar sleeves. He figured that if this was like in the movies then he would need them.

He escapes the city and sets out aimlessly as he notices more and more of the monsters.
Each passing day appears to have more and more of the undead and he have many encounters which he wished he didn't have. He saw a woman try to drive out demons from a zombie, only to have her nose bitten off and then the rest of her face as the zombie held her mercilessly.
While her screams haunted Daniel's dreams. After a while, he started to run out of food, most of the houses in the area had been burned or sacked and abandoned. After being assaulted by a jumping zombie, he decided to set of to the next city in order to find more resources and hopefully survivors.
He had no other choice, ill prepared as he had been. His hope is to be able to establish contact with his friends and family back in Norway and get to know if they are alive at all.
But to survive further, he needs to find a permanent group. And for once a group lead by someone who knows how things should be done.
No more did he want to lose people due to the incompetence and carelessness of leaders.
Being the lone survivor started to become much harder when the season turned colder.

To be honest, I don't think you have to. Dan is a common name, so it wouldn't be surprising that there's another person with the same name.

That's my two cents. You'll just have to wait to see what Sarge has to say about it, though.

Well, yes, Dan(Daniel) is a common name. Even in Norway.
I have (almost unwillingly) been developing Dan in my head whenever I'm bored and thought out more of his story and minor things to add.
So yeah, I hope I will be accepted. Though I won't expect it.

The thread didn't die off. Speaking for Sarge and the rest of the TZH forum, please don't post in the IC thread, post every OOC in the OOC thread.

Right now, it's still going on, but we haven't heard anything from our GM. Just wait a couple of days and he'll come round.

Yup, a little patience is required here. Trust me, though, this group is worth the wait.

Yes, yes, it is just that its been a while since anyone posted there.
And I have noticed before that if a thread go without a new post for too long then it risks never reviving.
Even if my character doesn't get accepted, I still love to read the story, it is very exiting  ;D
Btw, is there anywhere that it is possible to see the previous roleplays? It seems like I have missed out on a lot of stuff.

Unfortunately, no. The original TLB was deleted like the rest of the forum when we crashed a while back. S'shame, too; it was a fun one to play.

LM, I know that it's my turn, I'll be posting something shortly/later on tonight for you. C:

Just a quick question though: What was the cause of Tristia's injury(physical)?
Just sounded way too fucked up for me to not know what happened.

To speak on behalf of Scarred_Survivor, her father became a berzerker/hunter zed and reaaalllly messed her up, until Ignot found them and killed her dad.

So, yeah. It's about as bad as you would expect, but I think that the more her injuries are left to the imagination, the better it is.

Yeah, I just wanted to know the injuries cause.
It is actually more exiting that the rest is left to "mystery".
Many good books do that.

I am sorry for the wait ladies and gents, i have gotten bullrushed by bad roomates that are threatening to throw out my stuff for reporting partying and pot use to the RA's in my building. They crossed the line.

Anywho, i'm getting out of there and should be able to get something up tomorrow. I'm making a hard drive to do so, just so you fella's and lasses can post.

Also, good character Brain, but you gotta watch the switch between 3rd person and 1st person in your history. Don't bother changing it now, but in the future, really concentrate on keeping that switch to a minimum. Maybe you can hang out with God of Death and his character until they find him. If he posts again...

Approved.

-Lotsa Love,
Sarge

A thousand thanks for being accepted!
Sorry for being a  :slowpoke: but who is "god of death"?(Nickname of a character?)

Also, is it possible to add a minor character?(one that would pretty much just cling to Daniel all the time)
Its not really anything I "came up with now and wanna have". No, it is a character I was originally going to stick too Daniel, but decided not to due to it being "silly"(me being a tad embarrassed). Then I later realized that the thought of surviving alone in the winter, so young and not having a single little companion is MUCH sillier.  :-\
Hell, I even just recently made a TZH fanfic were Daniel is the main character, the fanfic basically worked as a prequel(made it for fun but was unable to stop).
I fully included that secondary character there and I like it better than Daniel being a "lone wolf". (it is a female)

Just asking. But again, thanks for accepting at least Daniel!
I think I'll be better at the whole "switching" thing during roleplay. I think it is just that Norwegian books are much like that.(many books I've read does that stuff)

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: Sarge on March 09, 2010, 07:45:39 am
Not digging the secondary for right now. Show me that you can play first, tehn we'll talk about another character.

That, and God of Death is from another forum and that was my bad. I meant B-Chan.

Hey hey, now... I've been here following along.  ;D

I just wasn't sure how you wanted to incorporate Kenneth into this since he was not a "primary story" survivor... if that makes sense. I thought you guys might be able to find him here shortly.

Note: I see Alex (Hailfax) is in an apartment now and stepped on a photograph. I could easily incorporate Kenneth into this now, maybe saying it is his sister Tanya's apartment and that is her husband. I would go ahead and post now, but seeing as this will be my intoduction, I want to make sure it fits well. Opinions?

The ending of Halifax's last entry made me laugh a bit, even though it is creating suspense.

Where/when am I supposed to make entry? Later?

I don't have a problem with it, though you're probably going to have to wait for LM (Liam) to comment to see if he's okay with it. I don't want to auto his character if this is going to be a plot point/introduction of a new character. :3

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost

Are these apartments supposed to be kind of big? If not, this might not be a good time for introduction. Kenneth could be in another one down the way if it makes it easier.

Okay, let me get this straight before I post; Right now, you all are on the first floor, correct? If so, wouldn't it make more sense that you would find us around the 2nd-11th floors (since we won't be with the survivors of the 12th floor)?

I'm trying to kind of tie this in with Kenneth's whole spur-of-the-moment decision to look for his sister Tanya and her husband who live in Philly.

Okay ladies and gentlemen. I am going to post tonight and wrap this section up. Thankfuly, i have moved apartments so it seems that my RL problems are away from me for now. There will be something for everyone, i promise. Just be ready to jump on board.

I apologize for the travesty of a plot point this was. I tried to make an interesting, but simple way for everyone to get invovled, but it backfired in a major way. I'll try to be more careful next time. Talk to you all soon.

Like i said in my post. Be patient. I will post later today and give a spot for everyone to post and be accepted. I got a small idea and I'm going to run with it. I will tage you like so when your character's are supposed to respond, just to give a little more clarity.

Okay, major post up, everyone should be heading toward to posting about the apartment on floor 12. Light character control is okay, slight speech, but nothing too drastic. Sorry if i stepped on anyone's toes again, but to get everyone moving forward i needed to.

Just to give everyone a starting point:

Original Crew - We are faced with potential hostiles. Could be con artists, could be raiders. We have no idea who they are or why they are here.
Apartment Dwellers - You just completely got shock and awe'd. Terror, fear, and rebellion are a good starting point. Over powered, out gunned, and death is most likely right now, at least to you.
Streetside peeps - You just heard raiders for all you know. All you know are there are voices in that building and they are human.

Post away, postateers!

This week, on a very special episode of "Those Left Behind..." <cue sweeping orchestral daytime soap music>

"Ignot! You have to stop kicking doors in! It's tearing. our. family. apart!"

"CAN'T YOU SEE?! I KICK THEM DOWN BECAUSE I CANNOT KICK DOWN THE DOORS...IN MY HEART!!!"

Eh, you are confusing me a bit, B-chan.
You make it sound like Ignot and the group is below you, but didn't Kenneth enter a room which had already been searched?(The one with the busted picture)
Basically, shouldn't they actually be above you?
Either way, Daniel will appear for Kenneth now.

I may be mistaken, but I believe you and I are not to be found with the 12th story survivors, but we are already supposed to be in the apartments. Clarification from Sarge (or anyone else) would be nice. I don't want to be the confusing one.  :-\

Well, I think we were tagged as "streetside peeps". The ones who are not (yet) in neither of the two groups.
I'm a bit confused myself, but I think it'll be fine if we don't immediately bump into Ignot's party.

I believe when we were tagged as "streetside" peeps, I think Sarge meant we were inside, but we heard them breaking in from the street before we ever heard Ingot bust through the door. Again, not 100% certain about that. I'll be posting a reply to your post in soon.

EDIT: I suppose even if we did hear them break in from the street, I fucked up my post, so I'll consider Kenneth to have been oblivious to the break-in from the street, but totally aware of Ingot busting the door open.

Lets just keep it.
"Negotiating" will probably take a while. So we will not be throwing anyone else(unless Kenneth and Daniel starts making a huge ruckus).

Wow...so I was just offered an all expenses trip to Georgia this week. And I took it. I'm sorry, because I really like this RP, but I never really get to do anything special like this so I had to jump at the chance.  :-\ I will be leaving tomorrow (the 13th) and returning the Sunday of the 21st.

Sarge, I will get a few "general use" posts to you, but I also give you permission to control Leland until I get back. I feel that you have a good enough grasp of his character at this point.

If anybody has any questions that they want answered before I leave, just PM me and I won't leave you hanging.

New post up.
Now, B-chan will pretty much decide the direction the "streetside peeps" will take.
Well, the main direction is obvious  ;) but the specifics aren't.

*Pokes head into thread*

You know I always wanted to join TLB the first time round but I arrived a little too late to the party. If I dig out my old character (or make a new one) could I join in this time?

The more the merrier.
But it is up to Sarge to decide.

I was sort of addressing Sarge (and Hail as she was the one who helped me with my first character). I guess I'll reread what's been written so far :)

[opera]AND I RETUUUUUURRRRRNNNNN!!!![/opera]

Well, Georgia was...Georgia was...

 :-\

SO!

I'm back and I hope to have a post up soon. Although if I could make a slight suggestion? Brainblow and B-Chan, it might cut down on repetition and post count if you two tried a few collaborative posts. Now, I'm just speaking from experience, but do whatever is most comfortable to you.

Like I said though, I'm glad to be back!

Yes, I've been thinking about it, but I don't know how its done well and I think B-chan is a bit too busy.

Well, I'm just eagerly awaiting for B-chan's and Sarge's posts now.
Both those posts will get us all to move along.  :humpingparrot:

I have been terribly busy. Work is hectic with all this stimulus stuffs going on (in the U.S.) and I am on the final legs of finding out if I am approved/denied for this badass work house.

I will post soon, hopefully in the next few days. I do get on to read when I get a few spare moments. Don't give up on me yet!

EDIT: See? I am so busy I can't even put what the fuck I actually mean! Agh!

So am I good to post a character Sarge?

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: Firesolved on March 24, 2010, 08:54:02 am
Clarification: Ive made a lot of references to Ignots eyes in my recent posts and YES I am fully aware he has red sunglasses on (why? who knows....I wear my sunglasses at night....) but the whole point is that all Frank needs is a glimpse at them to reveal the calm cool methodical killer as a quick movement in the dark. Unless he has those glasses that go all the way around like that black dude in Star Trek (the guy who was also in Reading Rainbow). If thats the case then, GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY.

k.

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: Sarge on March 24, 2010, 10:12:20 am
Lol, i didn't post that to make you aware of the fact that he had glasses on. It was just characterization and depiction of his movements and the description of minor events to create a sense of being and existing so it's more realistic to the reader. They are wrap around (He keeps them on to prevent blood splatter into his eyes in case the toxin is blood-bourne), but even sunglasses allow glimpses of the eyes every now and then. I understand that, and i like that you are characterizing Frank as a discerning type of person.

But i must ask, of everyone. If you have a problem with how someone did something or if you feel that they are picking on you, don;t blow up here. PM them, settle it like people in private instead of airing out your problems where everyone can see them. If there is still a problem afterward, then involve me or another trusted member (Hailfax or Scarred).

And yes, anarchy. You can apply. Anyone can apply.

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: Firesolved on March 24, 2010, 10:22:53 am
lol I wasnt blowing up at you dude. I saw the sunglasses thing and thought to myself "other people might catch that and wonder about franks observances..." and since I automatically assume people are stupid (sorry all), I thought a little bit of sunlight was due.

My apologies if this came off as offensive to you. It was almost entirely a joke post. Just being a dick.  ;D

Well, from reading the posts, you seem to have a good idea on how to approach the group ahead of you (The streetside group approaching the Main group), so go ahead and do that. That should take up a small amount of time.

But i have plans... ::Laughs manically::

Its vacation now so I will be busy on my mother's farm due to lambing season.
So there will be a few days where I'm without internet.
Just saying in case B-chan makes a response while I'm gone. Daniel can probably take care of most of the talking since I'm not as busy as B-chan.

Have a nice day.

Sorry everyone (especially BrainBlow), but work has been hectic as balls here lately. I just logged on to see what was going on with the RP. I assume everyone is waiting on me? Barassed...  :-[

On another note, I just bought a bad ass house... yeah, that's right. 2500 square feet, four bedrooms and three bathrooms full of awesomeness, complete with library. All the bathrooms are located within the bedrooms... did I mention awesome?

I apologize for all the hectic shit going on right now, but I swear to the Hamburglar that I will post as soon as I get a free minute. Robble, robble, robble.

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost

Nice post  ;D
Now we'll just be awaiting Sarge(who perhaps is a bit under the weather?).

Also I'd like to add that Kenneth and Daniel aren't standing fully exposed at the door. The setting I had was that there is about 70 cm(give or take) between the door frame and the wall on Daniel and Kenneth's side of the door. Big enough to cover behind but no, it wouldn't hide them completely(and their guns would probably stick out) and they would probably not expect someone to just walk into the corridor and address them ( xD ), so its okay.
Just for future posts.

Nooooo... we can't kill each other(yet).
There are zombies to kill and mysterious shit!

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: Sarge on April 15, 2010, 06:35:37 am
That there is. Trust me, there will be lots of shooting to be done. Just remember that swarms of zombies are actually very dangerous. Some people start to forget that and play zombies down as simple minded creatures. The whole point of this RP is to create suspense at the situation. There are a shit ton more zombies than there are us.

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: BrainBlow on April 15, 2010, 08:03:02 am
Indeed. I guess it is caused by the fact that all zombie kills have been off-screen so far.
I try to have it so that Daniel has that feeling of suspense, which is the reason I never make him "raise his voice" and why he is so damn afraid of making any sort of noise.

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: Random_Zombie#1 on April 18, 2010, 04:22:30 pm
Oh mah gawd must join original roleplay of ultimate awesome.

Name: Julia Silvers

Nickname (If any): Silv

Age: 25

Height: 5'7"

Weight: 135lbs

Eye Color: Baby Blue

Hair Color: Dirty Blond

Pre-infestation profession: College student/Paramedic in training.

Personal skills: Julia has had some formal training in judo, Was training to be a paramedic before the outbreak hit and surprisingly she knows how to fight with a weapon.

Jobs in the apartment: Scavenger/Field Medic

Physical appearance: Julia is average in the looks department, with short dirty blond hair and soft baby blue eyes, the only thing above average about her at all is her smile; Soft and caring, a smile that warms and reassures that everything will be alright, even if everything seems to be quickly getting out of hand. Julia wears an old kevlar vest with a neck protector, over a plain black padded long sleeve shirt. A pair of army surplus military combats adorn her lower body and these have had some mild modifications done to them ( including a Kevlar weave in the groin and calf region (came with the pants.) and some mild padding on the outer thigh region.(after she bought them.) Julia also prefers to wear a pair of steel toed construction boots she bought, however only after she replaced the old insoles with some better gel insoles did she wear them everywhere she went. Finally an old truckers cap adorns her head, which helps keep the sunlight out of her eyes during daytime scavenge raids.

Gear:
-Small: 2 magazines of .380ACP (12 rounds each), Flip top lighter, Package of cigarettes(half empty), Hip flask(containing water)
-Medium: IJ71H pistol(Export version of the makarov pmm re-chambered for .380 ACP),
-Large: Medic's kit(Gauze, Morphine, butterfly stitches, Medical tape, Alcohol swabs and aspirin lots of it.), Solid oak baseball bat

Personality: At first Julia comes off as a bit harsh but deep down, she's a caring individual with a strong maternal instinct that got her interested in being a paramedic in the first place. Always willing to tell the truth, Julia will stand up for what she believes in no matter the cost. Sometimes she comes off as being somewhat hurtful. It's not her fault, it's how she was raised; to tell the truth no matter how hurtful it may be to others around her. She also has a bit of a temper, which mostly devolves into swearing and shouting, especially if someone contradicts her on something she knows to be right. Julia can be a bit hotheaded at times, always willing to rush in to try and save someones life, no matter the danger. She's nearly been killed twice doing this but she regards those incidents as an acceptable risk, as long as she can save someones life

History: Julia doesn't remember much before the outbreak, save that her father died to protect his family fat lot of good that did. Her mother died trying to go back for him but she was caught by the encroaching horde of undead and was devoured. The screams still haunt Julia's dreams. She traveled across the united states, grouping up with anyone else that could use a medic for the most part it was nice being with others regardless of them being strangers. She felt safe and secure, that is until one would be survivor tried to force himself upon her. She then knew not all survivors could be trusted. That was when she met him, during the struggle she heard a loud crunch and the mass atop her went limp. At first she didn't know what happened, until something warm dribbled down onto her and a hand reached down to help her up, it seems another survivor had happened upon the scene and rushed to her aid. With one swift blow he drove his baseball bat into the back of her would be rapist's skull, crushing it on impact. The man's name was James Macmillan, a rather rough looking fellow and for the first few months, it was an awkward relationship.

They went across the wastelands, searching high and low for other survivors other people they could team up with and increase their chances for survival, yet all they found where corpses, both dead and alive it seems they were the only two people each other would see for quite some time but they made the most of it. With James teaching her a few moves from what he learned in judo prior to the outbreak and she teaching him, to patch himself up more effectively if he gets hurt. They went on for months, traveling far and wide looting shopping marts for provisions that haven't been grabbed up early in the outbreak. was good being a small two person group, meant they wouldn't attract lots of unwanted attention and it made rationing food and water supplies easier, they became inseparable after being with each other for five hard long months, they thought like one singular individual, perfectly synced they executed daring raids in what they regarded as yellow and red zones; places that were virtually untouched in terms of supplies they came out ahead, Julia getting her hands on a nice little pistol and a decently sized hip flask she uses to hold water and a decently sized med kit from the back of an overturned ambulance.

But not all things will go according to plan all the time all it took was one botched scavenge run and she lost James. The loss struck her like a steam truck full of concrete and for along time she wandered aimlessly looking for someone or something to fill the gap the only thing she had to remember James by was his baseball bat. The one thing that saved her life countless times, had a lot of sentimental value to it, she stuck to safer green zones for the longest time. Scraping together just enough food, water and ammo to keep herself alive and well. Things looked bleak quite a few times during her excursions but after awhile things began to get better after awhile certain green zones were almost completely purged of zombies, which indicated survivors but still she remained weary as she didn't know if these people were friendly or hostile. So for awhile she followed the trail of dead bodies, trying to find where they would lead her she needed the comfort of others, she craved it to no end at this point it got bad that she didn't care if they were hostile she just wanted human contact.

It took her a few weeks of picking the scraps that were left behind, but she found where she needed to go. A fortified apartment building taking the risk, she shouted out trying to get someone's attention and it worked. Within moments a ladder was extended and she took the opportunity and clambered on up the fire escape, to be greeted by several other survivors at first she was nervous a bit tongue tied but it didn't take long before she broke down crying after all these months her walls broke down and she slumped to the ground crying happy to have found some semblance of humanity amongst the death and decay that had taken over everyone's lives. But for now, she was just happy and glad to finally be someplace safe, without having to worry about becoming something's next meal.

(If anything's out of place sarge lemme know and I'll get to fixing it, once I get fed and caffeinated.)

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost

At first glance/read she reminds me of Alice from the zombie webcomic "dead winter".
Though it seems like were a bit far into the story for her to be one of the people at the apartment. (that is of course up to Sarge to decide)
Anyways, I like her. And you kicked a little hint of life back here.

I thought I was late when I submitted my character but it seems I wasn't(unless I wanted to be one of the survivors in the apartment in the start).
But there haven't been set any time limit for submissions.
This thing have been going on for quite a while.

At least it would prevent thread necromancy.

But yeah, take your time, Sarge.

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost

Ok everyone, here is the deal. A few pages back, Sarge gave us permission to use Ignot until he returns.

I plan to accept that offer. I will be willing to share Ignot with players that have been around since the beginning. (especially Hailfax!) In fact, I hope you'll volunteer. I plan to put this into effect and get us back on track by next friday.

So, I have to questions:

1. Who still wants to post/play?
2. Who has any objections to ANY part of my offer?

Please, I want to make this RP fun and make it work, but I need feedback from all players. And Hail, please, get in touch with myself or Scarred_Survivor, we have questions!

Wait...wut?

Me? Play Ignot?

Uhh......I CAN, s'problem is that I REALLY don't know where the hell the story was going and I REALLY don't know who is with who. If someone can give me the skinny on what's going down now, I'll try to revive the thread. (TRY is the key word)

Sorry guys, I've been busy with a bunch of other stuffs and I haven't had time to look at this board, I'm rarely on TZH as it is. But, I can try and revive this for you until Sarge gets back. c:

MIA - Missing in action
KIA - Killed in action
POW - Prisoner of war
DOW - Died of wounds

Those are all the ones I remember.

Eeeeh, I just talked to Sarge via PM.
Hes been horribly busy and will eventually try to get back.
We could say this rp is temporarily at Hiatus.

Even though it's dead, is it too late to join? I read earlier that someone said no, but just to make sure. And how does this work anyways?

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: BrainBlow on June 22, 2010, 02:20:41 pm
It isn't dead. Its hibernating.
And you can probably make a character but... Sarge needs to approve it before it actually joins.

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: Hailfax on June 22, 2010, 03:39:36 pm
Well, this is dead, but what I can do is start up a new thread for you guys as you guys can play amongst yourselves until Sarge gets back. That way, everyone plays and no one is angered. So, Jared, go ahead and put up a profile if'n you want.

If everyone wants this, I can whip something up in the next couple days and y'all can play amongst yourselves. Think of it....as a side quest until the main plot comes back, yeah?

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: BrainBlow on June 22, 2010, 03:59:27 pm
hm...
Depends on the "sideplot"...

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: Hailfax on June 22, 2010, 04:44:06 pm
What you want. Maybe like how the people in the apartment got to together or something. Something like that I guess, not sure.

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: BrainBlow on June 22, 2010, 04:55:20 pm
Well that would be something...
But Daniel and Kenneth aren't amongst those in the apartment, so if there was to be a "how he/she" got there story then it would be a fanfic rather than roleplay. Though I have been thinking about doing that sometimes out of boredom.
*keeps thinking while eating apple*

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: jared on June 22, 2010, 05:13:59 pm
Maybe (within reason of course, perhaps finish the task at hand first) they get side tracked from whatever current quest they have and must solve a problem or something like that? Or perhaps another group, that would join the main group later; This might involve having some of the people who had characters before making new ones, and having those die of along the way so when they meet the main group those people don't have to manage two people.

Holy crap. Many apologize ladies and gentlemen, for my unexplained and sudden absence. I am very glad to see alot of you are still interested in this RP, and i see some new faces as well. Please, allow me to explain myself.

April 11th was my last post which was finals for that part of my semester. My school cuts semesters into 2 month chunks and we take a full course load over those two sessions, 2 sets of 8 week classes. I had just gotten done with my finals when my wife and I decided that it was time for her to move back in with me (Long story that I'd rather keep to myself), so that was a whole, 2-3 week ordeal that eat my time. Then, my housing agreement with my college swtiched owners and the owners tried to up the rent and take stuff away from us. Not only was that bad for everyone, they also banned overnight guests (aka, my wife). So something had to be done. Being part of my student government, the next month was taken up with me fighting this new owner as well as celebrating my wife's birthday. On top of classes...

To make matters worse, my college suddenly decided to let me know that I owed them 2 thousand dollars in 2 weeks, or i'd be kicked out of my housing, which my wife had JUST moved into. 2 weeks of stress, depression, and anxiety go by before a clever peice of student loan manipulation and 5 hundred dollars cured the situation.

To wrap up, these last 2 weeks have been a de-stressing period for me as i try to repress all of this from my memory and attempt to get back into writing once more.

In short. I'M BACK BITCHES!!!!! YEEEEEHHHAAAAAWWWW!

Nice. My fingers are kinda itchy. They hunger for writing in something. But it will be the best after Sarge writes in.

Unless it goes like "And Ignot went *pew pew pew* and Daniel fell dead to the ground and candy was for everyone".
That would kinda suck  :P Except for the candy part.  :eyeroll:

Edit: I'll be gone gone from the internetz for about 2-3 days.
So if Sarge was to make a post, say, 2 minutes after I left then please be a tiny bit patient :p

New post.

Daniel's big leap forward!
Flashbacks, drama, malnutrition!

What will happen next?

<Tag Ignot, Alex, Leland, Billie>
(no, he didn't die. You try to survive improperly clothed for months in cold weather with scarce food supply while fighting off zombies! And then standing up quickly...)

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: Scarred_Survivor on July 27, 2010, 02:52:40 am
BILLIE TO THE RESCUE. *ISH SHOT*

No but seriously, if she gets shot that's her own fault. :P

I thought it worth mentioning to B-Chan (since there are no character sheets up for the older characters) that Billie wears a jacket with the 'Star of Life' logo on it which may help Kenneth ID her as a doctor.

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: BrainBlow on July 27, 2010, 03:16:33 am
The undressing part was more of a "See, I don't hide anything here that I'll thrust into your abdomen when you get within arms reach" signal.(Daniel wears quite loose clothing which could hide many things)
Everything else would kinda hit the spot.
The shaving part was something I thought of as an act made by a very tired mind thinking "I don't look presentable at all". Though yes: Poor judgement.

Edit: I have noticed the timeframe of the outbreak in this scenario and some other factors and... well I've blundered up a bit. Daniel is technically 18(17 at the beginning of and some of the following months after the outbreak), unless I were to slightly edit his story.

Edit2: I think Leland or Alex are up now.

I don't think it is required for anyone of the existing characters to die for you to post one.

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost

Still need time to formulate the character and someone might die during that time.

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: Sarge on July 29, 2010, 06:25:23 am
So far we have two separate stories. The one in the hallway and the one in the apartment. Both of which are precariously teetering on the edge of disaster. One slipped move and someone could get shot. Like right now, Ignot is probably going to draw his gun at Kenneth, mostly because that he is a stranger that is approaching their only medic. Yeah, not a good idea.

One errant twitch could get you killed, but don't meta game that. Right now, we have great players that are keeping with the realism of the story quite well. Like i said in the sign up portion, this should be treated like real life. I'll allow spectacular things, but don't expect that being an hero will do anything but get you killed.

So choose your actions carefully.

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: B-Chan on July 29, 2010, 06:55:55 am
Definitely keeping all of that in mind, but whatever happens, happens. If Kenneth was surprised at Daniel's collapse to the point where he totally forgot about his weapon in hand which causes a cautious or defensive player to draw their weapon and possibly shoot and injure... or kill... Kenneth, then so be it.

Revising your post because of an error in the story is one thing, but editing it because it COULD lead to bad effects is another. This is an apocalypse. People are tired, delusional, hungry... sometimes, bad things are going to happen. Sometimes, characters aren't going to realize what to do in certain scenarios. I respect those of you who play your characters with these things in mind.

Game on!

Is there room for one more here?

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: B-Chan on August 02, 2010, 12:33:45 pm
There's always room for applications, but it's Sarge's call in the end. You need only to post your character sheet using the template/ideas that Sarge used on page 1 of this thread.

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: Colonel_Temp on August 02, 2010, 12:52:31 pm
Is it possible to get a short synopsis of the story so far? So I can make sure the backstory fits into the situation and maybe weave in a few events.

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: BrainBlow on August 02, 2010, 12:59:56 pm
I can probably speak for Sarge here. You won't be part of the "main" crew. So you won't be "weaving in stories".  :-\
So here are some the details you may need:
It is in Philadelphia; it is around 10 months into the apocalypse; it is winter.
There is a fun little Wiki (http://thoseleftbehind.wikispaces.com/) that can explain some of the things that have happened.
Looking forward to see your character sheet.

Thanks. (Edit) Here is my attempt at a character. Could anyone give it a look over and make sure I haven't messed up? I know the background could do with more work. I'm aware some of the personality stuff probably won't come up but I like to flesh characters out, it'll probably come up sooner or later. I hope I judged the 'feel' of the game right.

Name:  Jack Ferdinand
Nickname : Duke, Franz or just Ferdinand
Age: 19
Height: 5'11
Weight: 66kg
Eye Colour: Brown
Hair Colour: Dark Brown
Pre-infestation profession: Psychology Student (University)
Personal skills: Basic survival skills, Musical (Write, Play Guitar)

Jobs in the apartment: (Unsure.. Ideas?)
Physical appearance: Long brown hair frames a face that always seems to be tired, with brown eyes and an unshaven beard. The hair was held away from his eyes with a piece of black cloth tied around from his forehead. Each side hung over his chest unless tied back, something which he preferred not to do. He wears a black T shirt with a 'Muse' logo over part of the chest. (http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q152/colonel-tempest/88c1c2fc-eaf8-4733-9d4c-4105bb66eb7a.jpg) Jack wears a pair of loose dark, faded jeans scuffed at the ankles.

Underneath his clothes he's pretty thin, though the loose attire hides it somewhat. He isn't particularly muscled or toned. The inside of each arm bears tattoos with the names of the rest of his band. Jill, Miles and Nicola. They're each accompanied by a scar, he tries to keep these hidden though such an attempt would be ultimately futile. His messenger bag (http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q152/colonel-tempest/tods-messenger-bag.jpg) usually hands at his hip in the right and contains his belongings apart from the SAA which has a holster on his other hip. He wears a pair of dirtied white converse shoes. (http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q152/colonel-tempest/sophnet-converse-all-star-hi-1.jpg)

Gear:
-Small: A dozen painkillers, 18 .45 rounds, Matchbox, An unopened guitar string in it's wrapper.
-Medium: Colt Single Action (http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q152/colonel-tempest/Colt_Model_1873_Single_Action_Army_Cavalry_Revolver_44.jpg) Army,  35cl Bottle of Vodka.
-Large: Leather messenger bag, Pickaxe (http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q152/colonel-tempest/ist2_3740976-pickaxe-with-path.jpg)

Personality: A sarcastic smart ass with a dark humour, Jack will always try to crack jokes when nervous or in a tense situation. This has led to him having more than his fair share of slaps due to an apparent inability to avoid making jokes of the few potential girlfriends he had. It does make him a  somewhat funny person to be around though.  He over-thinks things a lot and second guesses himself. This in addition to indecisiveness means he's not the best person to ask to devise a plan. Jack does seem to enjoy 'troubleshooting,' finding solutions to problems.

He also has an urge to sing whenever listening to his favourite songs or scything through zombies (He has learnt to control this somewhat). Luckily for others his MP3 player ran out of power months ago, unluckily he knows most of the lyrics off by heart. In truth, the singing helps distract him from what he's actually doing,  Essentially mutilating the corpses of the once living. Music also seems cloesly tied to his emotions, watching a sad scene in a film would do nothing to him but a sad tune will always illicit a response. Jack has an odd sense of pride, he'll refuse food, preferring to cook anything he eats himself. And would be more likely to give food to someone else rather than take it himself unless absolutely starving. He likes to travel light, if something can't fit in his bag then it'll be left behind for someone else. Micheal's also definately not a 'morning' person, being irritable and slow witted until the early afternoon. He found it hard to sleep ever since they left England, now it seemed more like a survival adaptation rather than the result of nerves. When Jack does sleep he tends to move around a lot and talk, though he only rarely sleepwalks. One thing he has noticed, is that without all of the light pollution of humanity's bright lights, the night sky looks amazing.

History: A native of the British Isles, Jack didn't picture finding himself in a somewhat strange, foreign country when the fall of humanity came. He'd been on a road trip across the states with the other members of his band when the troubles began. They managed to survive for a while together, but one by one they fell until only he was left.

His early life was average, school, college then university. Jack was always interested in how the human mind worked and so took a natural interest in the field of psychology. He wasn't the outgoing type but he had spent a few years as a scout. Doing the typical lighting fires and camping activities. Like many other things he eventually lost interest and quit rather than advance to the next level.

It was during the 2 college years that he found himself forming a rock band with his friends Miles (Drummer), Jill (Bassist) and Nicola (Singer). He was the lead guitarist himself, though he sung his fair share of the lyrics as well as writing most of the music. They weren't exactly successful however, they decided after a particularly disappointing gig to try their luck in the US. The group took a gap year and blew their maintenance grants on plane tickets. It was all planned out, they'd travel through a number of states, performing anywhere they could as they went. The plan was to get their music heard and to hopefully gain a following.

Even the best laid plans of drunken students are ruined by zombie apocalypses. The airports shut down and they were stranded with no contacts, knowledge of the country or any idea of how to escape. Jack managed to survive, he was surely infected but he wasn't even aware of how the virus spread. That was until he had to put a bullet through Jill's head. Seeing your friend die twice was almost too much for him. He wandered aimlessly, surviving through sheer luck more than anything else.

The 3 survivors managed to survive for a few months on an island in the middle of the Delaware river opposite Bristol. It provided some safety but they'd have to travel across to the city to scavenge for supplies, a wooden rowing boat their only method of transport across. There wasn't any true shelter but they had a source of 'fresh' water in the river. It would always be boiled but they were never sure it killed whatever traces of the virus could be in it. During one routine scavenging expedition things went horribly wrong. Jack's indecision got them into a bad situation which Miles and Nicola didn't survive. It was a turning point for him. He felt he had to move on and Jack tried to forget. It was hard to forgive yourself for causing the deaths of the only meaningful things you had left in your life.  (Please don't freak out if i've messed up on geography. I used google maps to try and find a suitable spot...)

It's supposed to be the three in the apartment. You guys can post about going back to the apartment though. When a thread breaks into two separate story threads, it is easy to post about your situation without interrupting the flow of the others. So go ahead. We need a little activity.

My apologies, I've been working on a character, but when summer comes 'round, all motivation leaves my body. Hence my absence. So I shall get started up on that soon!

Apologies for the absence. My internet fell over and died on friday, only just got it back up and running.

Edit: So, wait. Have we time-skipped ahead back to the apartment, or is that just Billie and the walking wounded?

I'll get around to completing my post soon enough.
Though I'll be busy moving back into the dormitory today and I'm not sure if the school's internet is okay.
So, with awesome luck, tonight.
But most likely tomorrow.
Edit: Yep. We didn't get access to the internet before today.

Edit2: Long fucking post now done.
Yaaaaaay... no more of the equivalent on my side...

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: Sarge on August 26, 2010, 01:46:14 pm
Okay, i have waited long enough. As GM, i am going to do some major character controlling to get everyone out and back to the apartments. This is a little ridiculous as i have given far enough time to get back to the forums and post. So no whining.

Say, do us new ones get our characters registered on thoseleftbehind?
Would be kinda neat.
Or is it that we do it ourselves(with approval)?

Okay, remembered my password and i am updating the site now. Go ahead and make changes, but please, anything other than minor info or grammar changes, please run by me first.

UPDATE: Okay, made so many changed to the site. First off, i edited the list of dead and survivors, adding newbies and making our deceased list longer. After editing some of the profiles for spelling errors and to make them look better on the screen, i added links back to the survivor list at the tail end.

Something of note, i added a very simplistic means of death to most of the deceased, allowing for reflection and flashbacks as a way to post. I expect some of the older peeps to use this to great effect. If anyone has ideas or wants to edit anything, let me know.

I am on steam all of the time, to try to catch me on there. (Sergeantatams)

I think it has something to do with... ya know... Nothing more to post before the story is kicked onwards a bit by the game master.
I don't really see who was supposed to post right now.

Well, it wasn't supposed to be any particular person. It was a mingling time and opportunity to role play with the other players, but no one other than Sharp.

But oh well.

Just make sure you read through the story first. Preferably you should also visit the website (http://thoseleftbehind.wikispaces.com/) just to look at some more info.
It is up to Sarge if you get to join or not.

Anyways, I think I'll make a small post soon. Nothing amazing.
I'm just a bit impatient.

Edit: Sarge is kidnapped by aliens! D':

Nope. Sarge has been kidnapped by life. The random is 150 bazillion dollars and a french monkey that drinks tea.

You have your choice.

Ack, I did it again! Bad Xan! Very Bad Xan! We don't leave our RPs mid-stream!

I'll be reading the backlog and see if there's someway I can salvage my role(s) here, because I was enjoying this immensely. Sorry everyone! :'(

Aliens. Definitely. No way such a useless thing as "life" could ever come in the way.

Alright, now I hope this RP can kick into awesomedrive!
I've been down with flu or something and without internet and was really looking forward to seeing how the RP was going.

Plenty character interactions that can be done.

Just started re-reading the latest installment of TLB, the one RPG I never managed to get into when I used to be a regular poster here. I'd love to get back into it but my current job doesn't leave me a whole lot of time for creativity (and the posts you guys are doing puts most of my work to shame anyway. I'm keeping a watch on though, keep up teh good work :)

o.O That's just creepy. Like really creepy.

Sorry for the extended absence. I'm in the process of a very hard move/not move, so posts may be few, but please feel free to continue posting and introducing our new roomie to the apartment.

New roomie?
The guy who everyone in the RP doesn't even seem to know is screaming outside?  :P

If Dan was a "Gary Sue" then I'd do something, but he isn't so hah!  :eyeroll:

Edit: Speaking of Mary/Gary Sues...
I found this interesting (long) test to find out if your character is (or is on its way to be or is not) a Mary Sue. (http://www.springhole.net/quizzes/marysue.htm)
Daniel came through it fine. That was rather interesting.
I'll recommend it to the rest of the RP participants to test their characters in.

Title: Re: Those Left Behind: Silent Frost
Post by: Sarge on October 18, 2010, 06:39:16 am
Ignot got a 19.

"Probably not a Mary-Sue, although a character can go either way at this point. Fanfiction writers should pay attention to ensure that their characters aren't getting too Sue-ish. For an RPG or original fiction character, however, you're probably perfectly fine."

It may seem like he's a higher score, but i got my story and i'm sticking to it. :>

Not a Sue then  :)
Though it is usually no harm coming over 16 as that may just add some color to the character.
Dan had 15 though <.<

Woot. Post in celebration of Halloween and the Walking Dead TV show premier!

It is also a testament to me being lazy and pretending I don't have a buttload of homework. In fact I'm so busy I shouldn't even be posting this right now much less trying to take that nifty little Mary Sue test for two characters

Well Temp, all I can suggest is Play your Role. Jack has called out to a place that is obviously (at least to him) inhabited. However, he has yet to recieve a response. What would he do? You don't have to wait for a dedicated interaction, if you're not being noticed, get noticed! Get hunkered down! Just get outta the street, it's not safe!  :police:

I wish I could say, BB. But with Sarge being the GM and all, it's kind of his job too keep us up and running. Or at least give us a nudge when we're falling behind. I'm ready to continue any day, but I'm not about to do all the work if I'm going to be the only one posting anymore.
