If you get hats for the Pyro, does he/she still wear the gas mask?

Yep, you're gonna have to wait till they do Meet the Pyro to find out. =P

The glove hat for the pyro is actually the engie's other glove. Or so I've heard.

Either thats not the complete list, or theyv changed some or added some?

Iv seen the pyro in a proppelor cap, the heavy in a padded helmet, the scout in a baseball batters helmet and the soldier wearing his normal helmet but with smokes and an ace of spades card in the band?

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2

That's all the hats they just added, there were a few before that.

@TLO: about two weeks ago.

Ah man, thanks for showing off the new hats D8...-clingy hands of want-

Pfft, does Scout have a newsboy hat? XDD;

-starts singing various songs from 'The Newsies'

And I seriously don't want to know Pyro's gender :C It takes away its charm.

The padded one is a community hat. Ergo, not made by valve.

I wish I had a suitable computer to play TF2. T_T
I want that Bonk Hat!
Oh, and the Tough Guy Toque is awesome too.
The Spy Camera Beard is hilarious!

Off the topic of Hats, I wonder what the next Class Update will be of, I hope its the Soldier, that would be interesting.

But the one thing I absolutely HATE about TF2 is... That it's so damn hard to find a favorite class! They're all awesome!

Oh, and not sure if anybody knew...but there was a secret on one of the "Classless Update" pages, if you clicked this Secret, you would get a special Medal for the Soldier to wear on his Chest, which has the TF logo on it. But thats come and gone now...

It's okay--I suck pretty hard at it too
That's why I play as a medic -shot- Lol, but my computer lags soo...-shot-

Just turn the voices off until you get used to playing C: Or always keep voices off so you don't have to hear people bitching C:

It's really fun and there's a huge delight in bludgeoning someone with a bat, or sticking 'em full of needles. Or..making them explode.

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2
Post by: Yutrzenika on August 27, 2009, 11:42:04 pm
I believe TF was originally a mod for Half Life's Multiplayer, like Counter Strike...
But yeah, my dad gave me his old, broken laptop, which would likely run TF2, the problem is fixing it...
I would really like to play TF2 again, I miss the "Bonk!", and the "Maggots!", and the "What kind of sick man send babies fight me!?". And of course I miss the "Mfffmmffuffmmf" from my favorite class, the Spy Checker.

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2
Post by: MLE on August 27, 2009, 11:55:27 pm
I'm the type of medic to give whoever I pass by a health boost. I tend to keep an eye on snipers though, if there isn't a pyro around. I can't ignore the cries of help ;A;

I hate people yelling at the medics when they think they're not doing their job, :C What do you think I'm doing? Playing in the water? I was on FIRE. You took the medkit. :C You're not in immediate danger. And most of the time, I'm the sole medic so I'm rushing around the field to heal everyone rushing off into battle and directly into rockets.

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2
Post by: Yutrzenika on August 28, 2009, 12:07:23 am
ok, so what do I need to do to get this game?  step by step please.
1. Get your wallet (Be Sure you have around 30 bucks in it, I know TF2 is somewhere around there, likely less)
2. Use whatever mode of transportation you see fit to use.
3. Use said transportation method to go to your local video game store
4. Grasp TF2 in your hands, stare at it a moment to absorb the epic aura it gives off
5. Slam that mother fucker down on the cashiers desk and say "I WANT TO BUY THE AMAZING GAME!" to which the cashier High-Fives you in Slow-Motion and says "FUCK YEAH!"
6. Pay him, or book it out of there without paying.
7. Go home, and install it on your computer.

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2

Or you can download Steam
Purchase TF2 from there ($20)
Install.
And enjoy C:

hmmm...sounds a little fishy.  What if the cashier is a chick?  Is there groping and wanton secks?  or is it still just a high five in slow motion? :P

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2
Post by: Yutrzenika on August 28, 2009, 12:13:58 am
Yeah, I guess that works too...  ::)

Boomstick Ninja'd: Yes, if the cashier happens to be female she will likely want to have sexual intercourse with you due to the fact that you bought TF2.

Yes.  And I don't get any error messages.  It just freezes when I start connecting to a server.  I get like part-way thorugh the loading of the server connection, and everything just stops.

I do.  I need a new frigging computer.  I need a desktop, because this piece of shit laptop, though it has been good to me, has outlived it's usefulness.  It has 512mb RAM and an Intel Centrino....like the first generation of Centrinos

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2
Post by: Yutrzenika on August 28, 2009, 04:18:30 am
Ah shitty. But don't fret about wasting money on the orange box on a computer that doesn't run it. If you get a new computer, you can install steam on the new one and sign in, and download the orange box on that one, which is handy. The only problem is getting said computer. XD
I need a new one too, I can either pay somebody to fix my dads old laptop, which could run Call of Duty 1, and possibly TF2, but for all I know it might not even be fixable, so I don't know.

Some servers just take AGES to connect to (ten minutes some times), try putting the graphics down too in case it's freezing while trying to load the choose a team screen.

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2
Post by: Yutrzenika on August 30, 2009, 01:20:11 am
Damn, I remember one time I was playing TF2, and I was killed by a Sentry, and when the screenshot thing came up, It was the most perfect shot to take, but I hadn't set a screenshot button yet. I was so pissed, it was a once in a lifetime screen shot oppurtunity.
So, it was on 2Fort, and I was a Pyro I believe, in Red Base, and theres that one square hole where you can drop from one of the upper levels, and there were like, 2 turrets up there, I was killed by the turret, and it zooms in on it, you can see the engy standing right behind the turret with his wrench.
And who is it you see right over the engy's shoulder? A spy from my team disguised as another engy! It looked so perfect, just some engy minding his own business, with some spy lurking over his shoulder!

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2

I also remember seeing a soldier that got kill by an arrow to the gnads. It counted as a headshot though, cause valve fucked up the hitboxes at some point.

They should totally add a crotch-shot animation, that would be hilarious.

Not the hit boxes, physics objects (rockets, arrows, grenades etc) trajectories are done locally, but if they actually hit or not is serverside, and lag compensated from the shooter's point of view. Play demoman or solider on a really laggy server and you'll see what I mean.

Its  very spammy, its a fire and forget weapon and 75% of the time your guaranteed a kill, just spam in the general direction of where your enemy is killing, making sure to strafe into cover after every shot.

I fucking hate the huntsman, noobish weapon ever created.

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2
Post by: Yutrzenika on August 30, 2009, 06:37:40 pm
Hell, I'd use it.
And its not like it's not the only Noobish weapon.
And you will consider any weapon a noob weapon if you get killed enough by it.
And I believe theres only 35 shots for the huntsman, so if by spam, you mean fire a burst of shots at your target, chances are you will miss several times before hitting a target, so you may only get 7 kills in a single life without ammo refuel.
That being said, I'm more of a pyro (As you can clearly see XD), but everybody and their dog considers pyro a noob class, soooo...yeah.

Although I guess it doesn't matter what game you play, there will always be somebody complaining about a weapon being a noob weapon.

Pyro is easy to play, but hard to play well. The pyro is supposed to rape everything at close range, that's his "thing". And anyone calling someone else a noob for W+M1'ing is a noob for repeatedly getting killed by them. =P

So are there any good strategies to using the back burner? Like, when I'm playing I find it mostly useless, by the time you are behind somebody, your dead.
Also, I find that the Flare Gun is a great "FUCK YOU" to Snipers, since they have low health, they're gonna run off to heal. I've only killed about 3 people with it.

Oh, and is that map in your screenshot Orange x3? I love that map.

It's fantastic if you sneak up behind people, pretty much instant death, need to be a pretty awesome flanker though. I prefer the airblast, it's handy when your medic's on fire, or if you want to stop a Scout from escaping and of course reflect kills against demomen, soldiers, stun balls (IMPRESSIVE), lv3 sentries (UNSTOPPABLE) and snipers using the huntsman (GODLIKE)

Wait, you can reflect the rockets of a level 3 sentry? I tried numerous times and could never do it.
And I guess it would be obvious you could reflect an arrow..

I wish that the characters you play as actually talk like they do in their intro videos...and I don't mean just the key phrases.  I mean like if I was playing a Heavy, I could walk around screaming tallies of how much money it cost to fire my weapon.  Or as a Scout, walk up behind someone and shout "Yeah...kinda a big deal...BONK!"

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2

I wish that the characters you play as actually talk like they do in their intro videos...and I don't mean just the key phrases.  I mean like if I was playing a Heavy, I could walk around screaming tallies of how much money it cost to fire my weapon.  Or as a Scout, walk up behind someone and shout "Yeah...kinda a big deal...BONK!"
The Heavy is too dumb to do that =P and the Scout does, never hear lines like "The best man won, ya bomb throwin' drunk!"

no...because I can't get my machine to play it....But the Heavy isn't too dumb.  He says it costs $400,000 to fire Sasha for 12 seconds...

Female Medic (http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=797667), Scout, (http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=765551) and Heavy Weapons Gal (http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=803369), all are a work in progress though.

Oh, and they actually fit the TF2 style and aren't just eye candy. (Not that I'm complaining about the pyro model with the bikini and jiggle physics...)

Ninja'd, eh, post anyway.

There's plenty of Slash for TF2.
My friend told of some Fanfic site, so I figure "What the hell...", I wasn't expecting to find anything decent, so, being a video game nerd, I go under the "Games" category, and see "Team Fortress 2", and so I click on it...

At first I don't see much of anything, I then notice there's a few filter options, one of which is to show games by ratings, the default I believe was "General" the Appropriate for Everybody rating I guess. So, wanting to see them all, I hit the option to show all of them, regardless of rating.

So I start scrolling.
:|
It wasn't long before I started seeing numerous slash fics...

There is an option to turn on Team Killing, but it's ridiculously annoying and makes it darn impossible to spy check.

You walk through your teammates, but not cloaked spies. Teammates also do not get burned/stabbed/explode/needle'd/bonk'd/etc. by your hand.
Unless it's a spy.

So this "Persistent Item System" pretty much just awards you with new items whenever the hell the game feels like it? Whether it be Hats or weapons?

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2
Post by: Dr. McNinja on September 04, 2009, 07:06:36 am
No, every four and a half hours(ish) you've got something like a 3% chance of getting a hat, it's much, much higher for weapons, and you can get them through achievements. People started using a program to trick the Valve servers into thinking they were playing TF2, giving them a chance to get hats and items even though they weren't playing.

This, obviously, totally fucked up Valve's plans, so whatever you got from idling is now baleeted, and anyone who showed up as not using the program got a hat for being a good little boy.

There's massive amounts of people bitching and throwing hissy fits over losing stuff they cheated to get, since hats are just sooo important! There's even some people who refuse to heal anyone wearing their halo and a custom model that changes the halo to a neon sign saying "FAG"

What the hell is wrong with those people, they're hats, in a game, they do nothing in game either.

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2
Post by: Flying Teapot on September 04, 2009, 12:45:48 pm
I was reading about that. It seems a bit pointless. If they were items that gave you an advantage or weapons, then it would be understandable.....but they're hats. HATS!

I remember one time I was playing Payload of Gold Rush, Blu Team (As always), and one guy was bitching because the Medic didn't heal him and died, I politely told him "Dude, it's just a video game..." and then for the next 10 minutes I had to listen to him whine that "I PAID MONEY FOR THIS GAME AND YOU EXPECT ME TO NOT TAKE IT SERIOUSLY?!" and stuff like that. If he at least said something that made sense like "I'm in the MLG and I have to take this stuff seriously if I want to win." then I would have apologized for bugging him. But jeeze, some people.

Well, fr srs = actually trying to win and stuff. I usually just try to do bitchin' moves and stuff. Scout trick jumps are fun.

Post by: Yutrzenika on September 04, 2009, 06:20:42 pm
Is it just me, or does it seem to be a pain in the ass sometimes to double jump off the roof of the bridge in 2Fort? Sometimes Scout just won't double jump. Oh, and with the Force-a-Nature, didn't they add the double jump back in? That's what I heard.

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2
Post by: Dr. McNinja on September 04, 2009, 06:35:03 pm
You mean the Sandman? yeah, but you have 95HP (lowest possible). With the Force-a-nature you can triple jump with the knockback, and you go further that you used to thanks to some re-jiggering by Valve.

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2
Post by: Yutrzenika on September 04, 2009, 06:40:32 pm
Wasn't it the Force-a-Nature that removed double jump? And now that its back, they took away some health? I'm confused. XD

EDIT: Ok, never mind, I just looked at the Classless Update page. No Double Jump is replaced by -30 Health. Got it.

EDIT2: Ok, I found this really well done, fan-made Meet the Pyro. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ww-jfygVEE0)

It was the sandman, the bat with the stun ball. Force-a-nature is the sawn-off shotgun.

I love those moments where you come face to face with person disguised as you. I remember this one time I was a Pyro, and another Pyro walked by, and stopped, looking at me, I looked at him, and noticed he was disguised as me, we stared at eachother for about a second when I yelled "Spy Check!!!" and flamed him, then finished him off with my axtinguisher.

There's one thing i have been wondering on for awhile , The heavy is a russian-character , wouldn't it be appropriate too have the blue heavy wear a white and blue striped shirt , the ones that the Russian naval infantry uses? That would be a great skin.

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2
Post by: Dr. McNinja on October 09, 2009, 06:43:42 am
Nice idea for a skin, but the whole art direction was to make it easy to tell team, class, weapons, etc at a glance, so they kept stuff like that simple. Plus the Heavy is a mercenary, not in the Russian military.

Well i know he's not in the military ,it's kinda obvious.
But i think it would match up with the russian image, something that lots of people knnow about and can relate to russia.
They did that with the hat though (The fur hat)

You can out run everything but a chargin' Demo, in that case just hit then with the Sandman (going in a straight line, easy enough to hit) or the Force-a-Nature.

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2
Post by: Crowbar on December 27, 2009, 02:21:48 am
The Sadman's not worth the slot anymore, people can still run and shoot with it, unless you hit them at full range. The Force of Nature would work well enough though. Too used to my scattergun, I suppose.

Yeah, my laptop can run TF2, but my graphics card is shit so there is SO MUCH LAG. M'surprised I played as much as I did before.

I can't run TF2. Period. XD
I don't think this thing can run anything from past 2000. I'd be surprised if it could run Half Life...
EDIT: For giggles I'm gonna try the Half Life Demo.

EDIT: HOLY CRAP IT WORKS.

So if you have the Gunslinger you CAN'T do normal Sentries at all? Would you still be able to control them with the Wrangler?

EDIT: Anybody see this yet? (http://www.teamfortress.com/engineerupdate/engineer_photos/)

Yep, and I have been using it like crazy. Basically you can carry fully deployed lvl 3 sentries and move em about where you like.

Also Wrangler does work for the mini-sentries.

So, how exactly does the Wrangler work? Does it deploy it's own unique sentries? Or do the mini sentries replace the normal sentries? And when we say Mini, how mini are they?

EDIT: Watched some vids on YouTube of the update. Yeah the mini sentry completely replaces regular sentry, which I think is kinda lame, but the Wrangler is freaking awesome.

You guys think I should craft my stuff now or wait until the Polycount Update?

The Polycount thing isn't an actual update, it was just a contest.

They're gonna update the weapon models into TF2 with their own stats like the other community weapons.

Ah, OK, I didn't know that. That's pretty sweet.
Yeah, all that stuff looks sweet though, kinda sucks the guy didn't give an actual description for the Sniper stuff.
