Title: E3 2010
Post by: Jetraymongoose on June 12, 2010, 09:17:19 am
Its that time of the year again, E3. Post here what you would like to see/ want to see and talk about the different press conferences and trailers and such.

Personally I would love to see more about a game called "I Am Alive". Ubisoft showed it off a couple years ago at E3 and then nothing. There hasn't been any news about it, but it looked amazing. I would love to see something on this.

I am also squinting for any surprise attacks from DN:Forever....

I'm looking most forward to info (If any) on Episode 3, Killzone 3, Halo Reach, the new Metroid, and the whole 3DS thing, amongst a few other games as well.

I doubt there will be any Episode 3. Announcement of Episode 3 maybe.

Perhaps a follow up on their "making video games is hard" statement...

Portal 2 sounds more likely to be talked about then Episode 3. Much more likely.

There won't be an episode 3. One of the leaders of valve went an personally killed that hope and said it was nothing but rumors.

Makes sense when you think about it.

Do you have a source on that or are you just saying wildly unlikely things for funsies?

Do you speak Norwegian?

Title: Re: E3 2010
Post by: Log! on June 13, 2010, 01:16:57 am
No, but something that large would cause a pretty big stir, and the closest thing to "No episode 3" is "Their big surprise is not episode 3"

Title: Re: E3 2010
Post by: BrainBlow on June 13, 2010, 01:22:40 am
I don't know how it would cause a "big stir" when it was just rumors being broken and not promises.
And you know what?
I'll post the link anyways. Good luck trying to translate
http://www.dagbladet.no/2010/06/08/kultur/spill/pc-spill/half-life/valve/12046394/

Gabe Newell himself was the one who shot down the rumors.

Title: Re: E3 2010
Post by: Log! on June 13, 2010, 01:26:26 am
It would cause a big stir if Gabe Newell said "There will not be an episode 3".

And all that says is "There won't be anything about episode 3 at E3", not "There won't be one"

I thought you were the one who could speak Norwegian?

Title: Re: E3 2010
Post by: Yutrzenika on June 13, 2010, 01:28:28 am
I translated it in Google Translator for anybody else too lazy too... XD
"Valve boss Gabe Newell now rather cold blood in the veins of us who had hoped for news about more from Half-Life saga with the first.

The company has already been pre-advertising for "Portal 2", but has now confirmed that there will be new to the "Half-Life 2: Episode Three" during the big game show that gets underway next week.

Also read: "Portal 2" is announced.

It is fanforumet Halflife2.net that Valve CEO Gabe Newell himself killed all such rumors in the brutal manner.

Newell stamps mysterious clues that the most creative was interpreted in the direction of "Half-Life" as cheating - and reject the firm that they have nothing more to report at E3 this beloved franchise.

That, however, Valve has been doing, is hectic and confusing public relations activities for a sequel to the critically acclaimed "Portal". When the designer sent out a cryptic email that canceled a planned "Portal 2" event and tried that a surprise would be unveiled in place, it did not take long before speculation began.

This press release can for example read here.

During last year's E3 Valve took most by surprise by announcing, "Left 4 Dead 2" only a few months after the first game had come out. Also as expected most of them in breathless suspense for signs of life from "Half-Life 2: Episode Three."

What they have to announce this year we wait until E3 has started to establish, but as one of the users to the icy Kotaku writes: Will the range of "Left 4 Dead 3" do not let Valve and Gabe Newell live from E3 ...

Computer and Video Games reports that the PlayStation 3 - and Xbox 360 journalists have been told that the news that Valve takes with him to Los Angeles next week will not be of interest for their respective publications, which should gear up PC gamers a few more notches"
And yeah, I know Google Translate doesn't perfectly translate it.

Valve like fucking with their fan-base. I wouldn't be surprised if they had Half life Ep3 is finished and are just trolling.

Title: Re: E3 2010
Post by: BrainBlow on June 13, 2010, 03:05:58 am
I explained myself the wrong way. By "there won't be one" I actually meant "Not any time soon and it won't be announced on E3". Not "never".
Sorry for the confusion.

But god damn Valve really knows how to make great games and get fans pumped about them with some of the viral stuff they do ( ala the portal 2 pictures made from the radio transmissions)

xD

Title: Re: E3 2010
Post by: Yutrzenika on June 13, 2010, 06:57:54 pm
I saw some gameplay of Force Unleashed II, like 30-something seconds, but so far it doesn't look special. Nothing new was shown, and there wasn't nearly as much enemies as we we're shown in that trailer. It looks pretty much the same, just better graphics.

Title: Re: E3 2010
Post by: Cassadar on June 13, 2010, 07:13:10 pm
eh... it has the few things i still like about star wars... cutting things apart with a lightsaber and throwing lightning at my foes!!

the story in 1 also wasn't bad either... so there's that... better than any games of the alo series anyway... though that is easy....

Title: Re: E3 2010

It was badass on consoles where they didn't openly admit that they had to tone it down a lot.

Ninja'd: Not really, the only problem was the length.

Title: Re: E3 2010
Post by: Yutrzenika on June 13, 2010, 09:41:51 pm
Yeah, that was the main problem I had, and the characters. I couldn't get into the characters, if it were longer then maybe I could have, and then boss battles were lame Quick Time Sequences. I just got bored of it pretty fast.
I'll probably still get the new game anyways though. :P

I agree with Log on that. And the other thing about the game being good. As a huge Star Wars fan, its great.

Title: Re: E3 2010
Post by: Yutrzenika on June 13, 2010, 09:50:26 pm
Oh yeah, I'm not saying the game is bad, just that it could have been better, but I did have a blast with it overall. I mean, what other starwars game can you rip a TIE Fighter out of the sky, and toss it at some unsuspecting bastard? XD

Title: Re: E3 2010

Biggest disappointment of that entire fucking game.

Pulling down the Star Destroyer. "Oh hai we're gonna take the coolest concept in the entire fucking game, to show how immensely powerful your character really is, and just kind of make it really really really annoying and boring.

Title: Re: E3 2010

And I found locking onto what you wanted to grab to be a pain in the ass at times.

I love the art and the music, since they're both done by one of my favourite artists and one of my favourite bands, but who knows how the gameplay will be. IGN said the gameplay was pretty good, but that's just one source. I love the beat-'em-up style though--like Final Fight or Streets of Rage--so there's a high possibility I'll like it.

So uh...Kinect, eh? Here's the um...list of games...for Kinect...that are coming out:

Quote
Kinectimals lets you train and play with 20 different virtual cats, including a lion, cheetah and tiger.

Joyride, a racing game, lets players use their hands to hold an imaginary steering wheel pull your hands toward you and push back out for an acceleration boost and their bodies to execute jumps and tricks.

Kinect Sports has six activities including boxing, bowling, beach volleyball, track and field, soccer and table tennis. To serve a volleyball, you mimic the real motion; in soccer, you can kick the ball or do a header.

Kinect Adventures includes a river-raft time trial and obstacle course, playable by up to four players. On the raft, playing as a duo, you and a partner must lean one way or another to steer. Jumping helps the raft reach special areas for extra points.

Dance Central, in development by MTV Games, brings a So You Think You Can Dance experience home.

Star Wars characters and iconic Disney favorites will be featured in separate new games being developed at Microsoft in conjunction with LucasArts and Disney

I'm getting a reverse boner. To top it all off, terrible things happened with elephants and children (http://www.destructoid.com/e310-our-kinect-reactions-the-video-176297.phtml) and people were scarred for life and Microsoft spent a butt-load of money for no apparent reason because they're idiots half of the time. SHOULDER PADS.

Probably the only one I'm keeping an eye on at the moment. That list is always a short one for me but that is definitely at the top.

Though.... it feels strange to get a good look at the protagonist's(?) face.

I'm sure it'll get some great compatible games later. But right now...Fucking hell.

Yeah, I hope the protagonist wasn't any of the two characters that walked into the house. Or the dude taht gets fried at the end. XD

I've never owned a Game Cube or a Wii, so I haven't beaten the Prime series at all. I've played it, but I couldn't tell you the story or key moments at all. So it looks like Other M will be in the same boat unless I get a Wii.

Mostly masks and disfigured mutants though, not like, normal people, that's kind of what throws me off lol
Though.... I assume when the goo has their way with people it won't be too pleasant to look at either.

Also, I'm going to be a total sucker and try and sell my 360 Elite for the XBox 360 "Slim"
It looks spiffy and I will buy one while I still have disposable income.
And hopefully it'll cost me less than $100 if I can get what I want for my Elite.

While I think the 3DS is pretty awesome, I think Nintendo is fucking retarded for releasing so many goddamn DSs. People can barely keep up. Whenever I get around to getting a DS, it'll probably be this one. And only this one. If you weren't able to remove the 3D then I wouldn't get it, but it can act like a normal DS whenever you want it to. I can't see them releasing anything more epic than this, so this is what I'll go for.

So, the new Silent Hill game (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgu4kF2zD7s) is looking pretty sweet, for the most part. I am, however, getting a bit of a Homecoming vibe. Homecoming was rubbish, so that's not a good thing. And with a game like Shattered Memories it seems like a bit of a step back. And Akira Yamaoka isn't doing the music for it, but rather David Licht (did music for Dexter, Hellraiser, etc) is. He's a great composer, but I dunno if he'll do well getting the Silent Hill atmosphere down. So we'll see how things go.

I never played the first X-COM, so I don't give a shit that they're making it a first person shooter. Then again, I liked Fallout 3.

Bawww they're fixing a dated game by updating it so they can actually sell a few copies bawww.

Yeah, that's what I thought when I saw people whining about Fallout 3.
OH NO, THEY'RE MODERNIZING AN OLD GAME, TO APPEAL TO THE MODERN AUDIENECE. OH NO THEY'RE TRYING SOMETHING NEW AND DIFFERENT. Cry some more. XD

I mean, maybe if there wasn't such a long gap in between the games, it would be a bigger deal. Be thankful that they're picking the series back up.

Yeah, if it was like 1 year after the previous one, I'd be kinda pissed at the sudden change. But considering how long it's been since the previous one, I'd be happy for the series reboot.

This.

Saying "OMG WHY ISN'T MARIO BROTHERS EXACTLY LIKE IT USED TO BE FUCK YOU NINTENDO" is ridiculous. Same story here. I would, however, find it cool to be able to play the original game as an easter egg. Maybe there's a TV somewhere that you can walk up to. I dunno.

Anyway, I think it looks fucking awesome. I love the idea of picking a place from your HQ to hit up, going and slaying some aliens, and then running for your life away from a genocidal beam of light. Seeing a serene, happy 50s kitchen splattered in black goo and blood is fucking ecstasy.

Check it out, yo. (http://www.destructoid.com/e3-10-first-look-at-xcom-176783.phtml)

Also, Zelda: Ocarina of Time comes to 3DS!? THREE DEE YES. BA-DUM-FUCKING-TSH.

The music always put the atmosphere over the top for me. I still can't listen to the soundtrack itself without panicking a little. The music gets in your head and fucks with you on top of the game.
I didn't care for the music in the teaser, because it sounded too.... not generic but still kind of.... just not Silent Hill.

I couldn't enjoy Home Coming in the least. I'm just loosing hope slowly in another game series.

YES GOOP. :D

I like how in Portal 2 there a little bit more of story and more interaction with the environment. Looking forward to watching the building reconstructing itself as you play along. The only thing I wanna know is that it is Chell coming back or is it someone else? I seem to be forgetting if they mentioned that in any of the videos.   HUUR HUUUR DURR DURR I'm smart.

Title: Re: E3 2010

Yeah, I think you still play as Chell. They made a new ending for Portal 1, where in at the end when she's on the ground outside after beating GlaDOS, she starts getting dragged away by some robots who say something like "THANK YOU FOR ASSUMING THE PARTY SUBMISSION POSITION.".

I saw it on Kotaku awhile back. I don't have a proper gaming computer. But there was a bunch of random files added to the PC version as well, crazy computer code, which we're turned into ASCII type images, and even some pictures. In one it showed some battle mech type things, and some shots of offices at Aperture, and some shots of the ruined training center.

I'll be having it for XBox as well.
I'm already used to not getting any attention from Valve on the console, I will just suck it up if it really is any greater for the PS3.

Apparently the PS3 version will have some sort of "Steamworks" functions. What this means, I don't know. But somehow it makes it better than the 360 version. If that Steamworks thing means DLC or something nifty like that, then I might get it, but if it turns out to be something lame, then I won't even bother.

Title: Re: E3 2010
Post by: Yutrzenika on June 17, 2010, 04:47:03 pm
Not sure. He didn't really say. But it'd be unfair if only the PS3 version got the updates.
And I just found this on the PC World website.
"It's not entirely clear, sitting here after the show, what that means. Steamworks is Valve's proprietary middleware suite for tracking play trends, delivering auto-updates, folding in community features, and packaging downloadable content. Until now, it's been restricted to the PC. Steamworks for the PS3 marks the suite's debut on the console."

EDIT: Made a mistake, it was from PC World.

None of those war game franchises have appealed to me.

I believe the first was the Game Gear. I had one of those with a bunch of games.

Anyways, they did show OoT for 3DS, and Starfox 64, but they we're for demonstration purpose, to show off the 3D tech, as well as the 3DS' improved graphics. But I think it was Miyamoto said it's not impossible that they'll develop it further into a full retail product.
But the OoT Demo was just you being able to run around that Hyrule Field or something, not quite sure.
