Title: Summer Merchandise
Post by: Greg on June 17, 2010, 12:35:07 pm
Okay, here's a huge poll for the summer!

Summer's just about to get kicked off (I think it really starts on June 20th). What kind of items would you guys like to see showing up in the store?

You can suggest pretty much anything, if it's not on the list. The only caveat I have is... not the hat. I'm *sorry*, folks, but we can't find anyone to make them so far.

At the moment, we're currently attempting to get the Red Halo patches made- we're on something like the 7th attempt there, but we're still hopeful ;)

We've also got a sample tank top (for the ladies- not the guys' wifebeater style) that I'm going to be sending up to Jenny for her to check out. If she likes it, and you gals want tank tops, I shall endeavour to provide :)

The more votes an item has, the more likely we are to get it made up! You guys' feedback has got us scouring the country for armband makers and patches, so we DO listen :)

I picked the arm band, poster, and outdoor-stickers.

I really like the flavor text for the zombies in the encyclopedia, so I think a poster showing each zombie type in a staggered list with its text would be awesome.

Sticker: They made me a zombie hunter and all I got was this lousy shovel. *optionally have the bloodied shovel lay across the bottom* :P

T-Shirts, armbands and stickers (I selected outdoor type, but it's whatever.)

I believe a sticker of the brick flail is a no brainer.

Nowt for me, thanks. No money.

It's all good, Cheez :)

So stickers are something folks would like, then?

And what kinds of designs do folks want on the posters and shirts that they've been voting for?

Well I'm going to order the "I love looting" t-shirt soon.

I totally want a tanktop.

Just kidding.

Seriously though, a t-shirt would be good, AM's idea with the shovel would be a cool t-shirt. The patches are still cool, as for posters, some of the art from the comic would be totally bitchin to have up in my room and stuff. If I get the money and I can spare it I might try to drop some on here.

Speedos with the Red Halo mark on them.

(Oh yesssss.)

What are the different TZH logos? Red Halo, Infected, ARC, Jasper...?

Given all the badges I got from you luvly people I covet a stitch on patch. Red Halo for the left arm and Infected for the right so when parading about in my denim in Glasgow's West End I can see if there's any others who read this genius.

huh... I just got the idea of colored eye lenses.
You know, TZH zombie and Basilisk-like eyes.
Not sure how much that would be possible though.

Title: Re: Summer Merchandise
Post by: Greg on June 23, 2010, 10:34:24 pm
uhhhh.....

the liability issues inherent with a product one sticks in their eyes would be a lawyer's wet dream.

The patches, we can do.

Title: Re: Summer Merchandise
Post by: BrainBlow on June 24, 2010, 02:15:55 am
Since when did contact lenses become "a lawyers wet dream"?

Title: Re: Summer Merchandise

Read "Sandman". Then read about "The Corinthian". And you won't grow teeth there.
*nod*

Since when did contact lenses become "a lawyers wet dream"?

Basically, when you stick things in your eye, you have the potential to do a number of harmful things to yourself, including causing yourself to go blind or even die. I'm sure you've never done that to yourself, but, you wouldn't be the only customer, right?

We're not a medical supply company, and don't carry that sort of liability insurance. We don't have the facilities to keep contact lenses sterile, and it's just not a capability I see us likely to develop in the near future.

Makes sense.
Was just a thought.

Post by: Greg on June 25, 2010, 09:48:26 am
Nah, that's cool. It's just not something we could really get away with selling. Just like you will probably never see us selling TZH character-themed bayonets or whatever ;)

On the topic of lenses, if you want them, just get them here. (http://www.vampfangs.com/Contact-Lenses-s/6.htm) They have some similar to TZH zombie eyes, but they're rather pricey.

That said, my vote goes for new shirts, armbands, and posters.

I'd like to see posters of the different zombie types. I imagine Mercies and Berserkers will be the popular ones. Maybe some of the chapter covers as well.

Aaaaah! They have black ones!
DO WANT!
But I don't know about any shop in this country that sells them... Though it probably is... somewhere...

I'm pretty sure vampfangs does international shipping, though don't quote me on that.

Edit: They do. Just looked into it.

*still thinking about The Corinthian in "Sandman"*
As cool as those are there is no way in the Kingdom of Thud that I'm putting anything in to my eyes.

Gahaha, people who've never worn contacts amuse me. My old roommate had some contacts from there to wear for a zombie walk. It took him a half hour to get one in, and got to the point where I had to put it in FOR him xD

Title: Re: Summer Merchandise
Post by: BrainBlow on June 26, 2010, 05:50:33 am
I just imagined TZH statuettes.
Though that probably wouldn't work as merchandise for a webcomic.  :eyeroll:

Title: Re: Summer Merchandise
Post by: Greg on June 26, 2010, 03:30:03 pm
Well, we could perhaps do plastic figurines- several companies make them. Is that similar to what you were wanting?

Title: Re: Summer Merchandise
Post by: BrainBlow on June 26, 2010, 03:36:15 pm
Not that I wanted it. It was just an idea that popped into my head since I noticed that almost any anime ever got them  :P
And wouldn't it be kinda weird with a Jenny statuette?
"Buy these statuettes of myself... sorta!"  :-\
But if you find it like a good idea then go ahead. I'd maybe even buy one.
I'm going to buy a t-shirt soon anyways.

TZH RINGTONES! Goddess, I'd seriously think about shelling hard cash for a Charlie/Crawler combo...

1. For mobile phones obviously, dialogue or scripted conversational interactions. Or answerphone messages (as I recall Xombie did a few cracking answering service messages from Dirge).
2. Of course I hear voices when I look at the page. Normally from Gridstream Productions (http://www.gridstream.org) which I listen to even when not playing Anarchy Online.
3. But of course you are. You have seen what goes on in Fluke Laboratories R&D Wing.

Paperweights made of clear plastic (I don't know the name but I saw it in a craft store so I know it exists; you prepare it and as it thickens, you position objects into it then let it set entirely) with themed objects encased in it, like a mini shovel, "blood", anything to do with zombies, etc.

Pins, not buttons. I never wear buttons, but cast metal (or even plastic, when well made) pins are more jewel-like and can look fine on anything.

Plushies, like the existing Zo plushie, but with actual TZH characters.

Title: Re: Summer Merchandise
Post by: Jetraymongoose on June 27, 2010, 02:27:53 pm
TZH branded shovels and guns. Also, TZH branded zombies and gas masks.

Title: Re: Summer Merchandise
Post by: Greg on June 27, 2010, 05:13:37 pm
The gas masks are actually just modeled off of russian masks- you can find them online if the rubber fetish crowd doesn't already own them all ;)

I suppose I could try to find a shop making replicas, though.

So then, for the minis or figurines, what scale are you thinking? The anime statuettes/figurines are generally between five and eight inches high, as I understand it... while minis are generally the sort of thing you find on a one-inch base for use in RPGs.

Pins are an interesting thought! What sort of designs would you be looking for there? Infected, Red Halo, anything else?

Why are tank tops for the guys not on the list?

Yea, it's an old thread but I was gone almost a whole month and am still catching up on what I missed.

Title: Re: Summer Merchandise

well, to be honest, you're the first person who has ever asked for one. That would probably be more of a special order type of item, unless you could find eleven other folks who wanted them as well.

I would want a tank top, I live in warm areas of the world and I would hate to take a pair a scissors to a new shirt

Title: Re: Summer Merchandise
Post by: DubstepDisciple on June 26, 2011, 12:26:22 pm
Personally I would like a shirt with a sort of design or stain on it that made it look sweaty and dirt ridden with a couple tears with maybe Wastelander spray painted on the front. Something to that effect.

As for the posters I would like a black and white silloutte of each weapon so far used in the novel with some basic information. I.e shovel could have metal head length maybe weight of weapon where firearms could have standard info like calibre, magazine capacity, effective range. Things like the Brick flail you could get creative with.

The armband I would just like a simple Dormant Infection symbol.

It has been EXACTLY 30 days.

Okay, what I was thinking was like, The infected symbol, bun instead of a black t-shirt, itd be like, a dark, blood red shirt with like, black rings around the sleeves and neck? Iunno, just what I was thinking...

Title: Re: Summer Merchandise
Post by: Greg on October 03, 2011, 10:22:57 am
We ran polls on different types of merchandise, and people really liked a couple of shirt designs- Not Pants, and the "I punched a zombie in the face..." shirt. Unfortunately, we were unable to get the 'punched' shirt design made in a satisfactory manner, and the Not Pants shirt didn't sell at all when we introduced it to the store. There were a grand total of three sales, so we wound up pulling it- it just wasn't economical to manufacture at that point.

None of our suppliers could provide ladies' cut shirts for anything approaching a reasonable price, unless our order volume was in the hundreds of units, and our audience just doesn't support that. It's a real shame, because I know the female members of the audience would appreciate some better-fitting shirts, but we just can't sell anything like that number.

The Zombie Zodiac prints went about the same way- lots of positive feedback, but few actual sales. So Jenny has discontinued that series for now. You've got to figure; making a print design can take Jenny up to 20 hours, so if only 5 people buy it, at $8.40, then she made $42 for 20 hours of work, which comes out to $2.05 per hour. We've still got them in the store, though- we already produced them so we'll hope that they can sell over time.

The knives didn't get enough positive feedback to make; the cost of production was so high that the price probably scared off any actual customers.

That pretty much leaves the patches. We found a great new supplier for the patches, so we've gotten in a new shipment of Infected patches that are doing well. The curse of the Red Halo patch continues, though- continued production difficulties have pushed their delivery date to the 11th of October, and then we'll need to see if they actually look good, before we put them in the store. Even the supplier that has done so well with the Infected logo is having difficulties with that one. Our hopes are high, but we'll see if they can make the date. Cancel that! Just got word that this batch arrived early, and they are BEAUTIFUL. They're up in the store now- check these babies out!

As always we're still trying to develop and produce new items that people will enjoy having and want to own. Unfortunately, that development and prototyping cycle takes time and money, so we have to balance the losses from ones that do poorly against the gains from products that do well.

Currently we're working on the development of a pdf version of the book, which will have some unique artwork that is different from the print volume. And, of course, we're still trying to get the Red Halo patches to come out. We JUST got the patches done!

As we produce and test more things, we'll keep everyone posted through announcements under the comic. Today's post was actually going to be an announcement about the Red Halo patches, but the last batch came out wrong so- as I said above- that got pushed another few weeks.

My girlfriend bought me the Not Pants shirt as a gift a while back, but something wound up going wrong and she got the money back.

Sorry, man. Because we canceled production, the folks who bought the shirt got their money refunded. One of the three customers was lucky enough to get the prototype, but that was it. We wish we could've gone full-scale, but the interest just wasn't there.

EDIT: PATCHES HERE! REALLY FOR REALS! THEY LOOK AWESOME! WITH THE RIGHT COLORS AND EVERYTHING!

It has taken something like 6 or 7 different runs from various suppliers but we HAVE THEM!
