Nah, the game will usually let you know. Unless It's rope or something.

It's not. Dead Space 2 had a lot of moments that straight up disgusted me. It's less the whole "Being dead" thing. The mutilated corpses and whatnot have never bothered me, but watching someone struggle during their last few seconds of life... Eugh. To me, that's like someone showing a rape in a movie or something. I just don't like seeing it.

I've been playing a bit more, not a huge fan of the map. It's quite unclear where things are. Is it above me? Is it below me?

That's kind of the point, though. If it just tells you how to walk straight up to it, you're not really exploring. You're just going where you're told. Of course, being able to set beacons on things kills that idea completely.

Yeah, the cover is spectacular. And as for the deaths, yeah, that's probably what they were going for, but still. I don't like watching a girl in her 20s get a large metal pole rammed through her head while she struggles weakly to pull away. I feel like there's a line, and those cutscenes are in bad taste.

I think it was just the creepy ass creators. There are a lot of really awful death sequences that make me genuinely uncomfortable to watch, and a lot of them are in places that require minimal mistakes for instant deaths.

I'm playing Tomb Raider as well. It's pretty good so far, but these fucking quicktime events are killing me. I don't know if it's controller lag or what, but I just have to mash the Y button during cutscenes because they keep popping up, and no matter how many times I press the Y button while it's actually on the screen, I fucking die. And, of course, I love that I have to watch Lara be killed in excruciating ways every time I fail one of these fucking things. Jesus.

If you're someone who hates that games tell you things about what's happening, this is definitely a game for you. I was just zoomed in shooting a guy, when suddenly I started taking damage. When I zoomed out, the platform I'm standing on is completely on fire and it's literally impossible for me to get away without dying. Apparently, the fire was following me up the shaft and I was supposed to just keep climbing. Also, for some weird reason, she will absolutely never use the axe she has for combat. No idea why. She'd rather choke a dude to death with her bow than just open his throat with the blade or something. Also also, Lara. Put on a fucking coat. I feel bad for you that you're shivering and all, but for christ's sake, woman. You just killed four guys who are all wearing much more protective gear than you are. Take a fucking coat.

All of that aside, This game is quite good. They managed to make the game linear, yet oddly open world. You move from one area to the next in the story, but each area has a lot of shit. Plenty of nooks and crannies, animals to hunt, shit to find, side tombs to explore. Pretty neat.

Also, I feel bad for you console Skyrim guys. When I fucked up a skill tree, I could just open the console and delete the perk I bought and buy the perk I wanted.

OG stands for "Original Gangster", so Yut is pretty close.

As for the rest, a lot of what you say is true, but I still really really don't understand why Dark Souls is being compared to Skyrim. I mean, I get the whole "Strong elements of exploration", but... That's really it. And as for the sounds and the sights and everything, yes. You're totally right. Dark Souls has fantastic art direction, the music is spectacular, et cetera, et cetera. But you also have to think about it like this. Dark Souls, while technically "Open world", is a fairly linear game. For example, go try to kill Queelag right after you leave the asylum. You can't, because the game straight up shuts you down with monsters that kind of take half a look at you before gently clearing their throat at you to death. A lot. There aren't really any sidequests, maybe a few optional bosses, yeah, but for the most part, you've got very few options. If Skyrim is really, truly too easy for you, try turning up the difficulty level and play the game as it's meant to be played. Blacksmith to make yourself new gear, enchant when you get new items, take advantage of the "resting" system (which, surprisingly, made the game significantly more entertaining for me). The problem of "Copy/Paste" is simply because of the mindfucking amount of content they had to make. Hundreds and hundreds of unique characters, dozens of caves that really only exist so you can go "Hey, look, a cave!" And, yes, there are a lot of moments that are copied and pasted and they start to wear, but the game also has plenty of amazing sequences apart from that.

I love both games, I'm just absolutely confused by the need to compare them. Skyrim is a game you put in, and explore, and learn about the lore, and just kind of fuck around and have fun. It's a story that you experience and create on your own. Dark Souls is a game that exists solely to be conquered, the kind of game designed to make people scream and throw controllers and stand up from the couch, arms raised in triumphant glory. In my mind, they're too different for me to find fault in one because of things the other one does better.

Just throwing this out, if you're feeling jaded with Skyrim, don't cheat any more. Don't grind out blacksmithing and enchanting to max level immediately, no exploits or bugs or glitches or what have you... just doing it OG really makes the game a lot more fun.

A small child was cured of HIV. More people should be excited about this.

For the record, sounds like your problem was with Microsoft, not xbox. Microsoft has been known to occasionally fuck up people's accounts, and I'm pretty sure that playing offline and then redownloading your account is what did it. I knew a guy who called microsoft and to change his email, and when they asked him why, he told them his email account had been hacked. A short while later, they completely wiped his account (300+ dollars on DLC) and said "Ha ha, whoops!" and gave him a free year of gold.

Yeah, when I switched to PC I just kind of stopped giving a shit about them. I think it was something about having a pointless number that showed how many points I have, because I genuinely enjoyed getting them on the 360.

I have a lot of missing achievements for skyrim, but whenever I notice that they're missing, I just kinda go "Oh, dang."

PP: When you ask someone out via digital means late at night and having to wait for them to respond the next day.

Related AP: When they respond. Awwwwwwwwwwwww yiss.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be doing my "I have a date!" dance.

Yeah, I'm usually only human after I kindle a fire or something. But gaining your humanity right before a boss fight is super crazy worth it, so that you can summon help. And laying down your own summoning sign is pretty worth it too, as there's no actual downside.

And there are people who like to hang out in Darkroot Garden just to gank people that didn't really know what they were doing.
