4996  General Discussion / General Discussion / Re: Words on paper in this technological world, reading anything? on: March 15, 2010, 11:24:35 pm
Just finished reading the first volume of Bokurano Ours. It wasn't bad, but it was really predictable. I pretty much figured out how the whole series was going to go halfway through, with a few exceptions.

I've stopped reading it around chapter 35, but have been meaning to start it again.
But I did enjoy it nonetheless, just... Stopped for some reason.

Most of the manga I'm reading are still ongoing, and waiting for them to update. But probably going to start up Ranma 1/2 again.
Damn this habit of stalling manga series for no reason.

Just Tom Petty or Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers?
4998  General Discussion / Game Discussion / Re: TZH Game Reviews II: Reviewer's Revenge on: March 15, 2010, 10:43:13 pm
Recently Completed: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

System:
Wii

Story: Years ago before the Battle of Yavin, your father Kento Marek, was killed before your very eyes by Darth Vader. He sensed your force potential and took you in as his apprentice, giving you the codename Starkiller to replace your own name of Galen. Now his apprentice and years later (Close to the Battle of Yavin, but still a few years off) he sends you on your first task to test your abilities; to eliminate the ex-Jedi General, Rahm Kota. Going with you, is your pilot Juno Eclipse and PROXY (Holodroid) and the ship Rogue Shadow.

Time Spent: 9:48

The Good:
+ One of the best Star Wars games to come out recently.
+/- The story is good for what it is, but Star Wars fans will probably enjoy it more than the average gamer.
+ The planets that the player will see, from Coruscant to Nar Shaddaa. It gives the game a nice variety.
+ The force powers are quite satisfying. Throwing someone off a balcony or lighting someone up with some lightning are some guilty pleasures.
+ Effects are good, and the force powers look great.
+ Combos and chaining force powers and lightsaber moves together are immensely satisfying
+ Sweet boss battles against other Jedi.
+/- The finishers for the bosses are stunning, but use QTE as well. Totally worth it though.
+/- QTE in boss battles can occur quite a bit.
+ Music is stunning as usual.
+ Sound effects are the usual Star Wars sound effects.
+ Wookiees and Mandalorians!
+ A whole 5 star meal of unlockables. Costumes, crystals that increase certain force powers, blade color... And collecting holocrons, which unlock some sweet character art.
+ Multiplayer is a nice addition to it, but haven't tried it much.

The Bad:
- Linear paths, Just one entry and exit for most areas and areas feel confined in most cases.
- May get repetitive, slashing and using the same force powers over and over again.
- Poor graphics for the Wii version, the characters in the cutscenes in particular.
- If JK II: Jedi Outcast can have dismemberment's, then why not this one?
- The average gamer can probably complete it in less time, making it seem even more shorter than it appears.
- Sometimes in the QTE, the Wii remote/nunchuck might not register your commands, causing you to fail them.
- Personally, I absolutely hate jetpack troopers with repeating blasters (They fire in bursts, but feel like repeater).

Score: 8/10, loved this game, even with it's flaws. Using the force powers makes you feel like a bad-ass but there could have been so much more to it. Making combos of the powers and lightsaber blows is still pretty sweet and it's definitely worth at least a rental. Essential to Star Wars fans, but that is a given.

More P.N.03, NBA Street V3, X-Men Legends II (Feel like a nerd playing it, but it's so fun!) and bursts of Nightfire.

There is still time... All the time in the world. Even if one includes laziness in the equation, there is enough time.
March break isn't going to help, is it?

I didn't know if Mangas, and Comics counted, since everybody was discussing actual books and such.
Anyways, yesh, pretty good Mangas. I wish to purchase more of them in the future, but Mangas and Books aren't on a priority list of things I want to buy.

Manga/Graphic Novels/Comics should always count! With some of them having epic stories that rival novels... They have a right to be here! To fight for art!

Wish I had a speech to go with that, but Monster and Battle Royale  are the first ones that come to mind.

Currently reading Emperor: The Gods of War by Conn Iggulden. Damn, this guy is seriously amazing. Can't believe that I'll be done his historical fiction once I finished this one. But thanks a bunch for recommending him Cheez!

Thanks for the support Yut! You practically have half the rights to this second edition; with you helping keeping it alive and all.

I thought I stickied it before, but now it is.

I should have a review of.......something sometime in the near future. After I take a long nap.

Thanks for the sticky mod!
It was, but it was the first edition, along with the TZH Movie Reviews.
Unfortunately, that one is outside my jurisdiction and I know little about movies. Also, I don't think I should be the one to create that one; the honor should go to another.
5003  General Discussion / Game Discussion / Re: Monkey Island 2 Special Edition on: March 14, 2010, 01:14:38 am
I think it denies games that need a pixel shader.
Definitely remember not being able to play Titan Quest and Republic Commando due to not having that (RC actually said that was the only problem. Assumed it for TQ as it had that as a requirement on the case).
5004  General Discussion / Game Discussion / Re: What are you playing? Episode 2: Sequel Reloaded! on: March 13, 2010, 11:37:41 pm
And I was just playing some Metroid Prime, which was fun, I also started a new game of Prime 2 on the side as well.

I really have to finish Metroid Prime sometime... Probably the only game on a console where I felt comfortable with an FPS-like view scheme.

I so need to buy that game... But unsure if my computer can play it.
5006  General Discussion / Game Discussion / Monkey Island 2 Special Edition on: March 13, 2010, 07:15:37 pm
I actually shed some tears when I saw this.
God bless you LucasArts! First Secret of Monkey Island, now Monkey Island 2... Will Sam and Max be next? Surely there is a possibility!

And I guess to be fair, I saw it here first.
5007  General Discussion / Game Discussion / Re: TZH Game Reviews II: Reviewer's Revenge on: March 13, 2010, 07:13:09 pm
Wanted to bring it back (Again) since the first one is now officially lost.
It's considered necromancy, but this time it's for a good cause, right?

Recently Completed: Hotel Dusk: Room 215

System: Nintendo DS

Story: It's been three years since Kyle Hyde has been part of the force in NY. Now as a salesman for Red Crown, he is in search for his partner Brian Bradley, who went missing three years ago after Kyle shot him and then fell into the Hudson without turning up. His employer, Ed, sent him to Hotel Dusk for a job of finding a couple of items (Part of Red Crown's specialty; finding what doesn't want to be found). The hotel's owner, Dunning Smith, tells him about Room 215, nicknamed Wish. Taking lodgings in Room 215, Kyle begins to hunt for the items. Before the night is over, he'll get more than he bargained for.

Time Spent: 15 hours and 15 minutes

The Good:
+ As an adventure game, the story doesn't disappoint. It's more than what it appears and gives the player quite a bit to go through. And really gives the player their money's worth.
+ Amazing cast that doesn't feel one-dimensional. They all have depth and a story to tell.
+ The graphics, especially the character designs. How they look like sketches is absolutely brilliant. And how some scenes look unfinished at the edges or simply blank makes it all the more better.
+ Jazzy music really suits the late 70's time period of when the game takes place.
+ Never used it, but there is a feature for a rumble pack. I assume it's a nice addition.
+ Dialogue feels natural and the style of it is right on.
+ Holding the DS like a book, definitely the way to go.
+ The box doesn't lie when it says "A Mystery Novel".
+/- It's an adventure game, so it feels laid back.
+/- A whole lot of dialogue, and can be wordy at times. But then again, it is an adventure game.
+/- If you somehow mess up and end up at a game over screen, the game tells you what you did wrong. Kinda a bummer if the player wants to figure out how they messed up on their own.
+ A summary of each chapter that is completed is provided, which is perfect in a game like this.
+/- Once a chapter is finished, there is a recap and some questions of what happened in it. A real nice touch for those who might have forgotten a few things but for others might feel like a waste of time.

The Bad:
- Some puzzles can be tricky and a pain to figure out.
- Not much non-story related stuff or side-quest like things in the game.
- Quite unfortunate that there isn't a feature early on that lets you replay the music.

Score: 8.5/10. This is without a doubt one of the best stories one can get in a game on the DS. It's also among the top of the DS adventure gaming crop, with the essentials of a good adventure game: an amazing story, cast of characters and setting. Can't get much better than this in terms of adventure.

Better Than: Most other DS Adventure games.
5008  General Discussion / Game Discussion / Re: What are you playing? Episode 2: Sequel Reloaded! on: March 13, 2010, 06:33:34 pm
Blazed through two missions of P.N.03, Professional and Rookie.
Missed how stylish it was and how easy it was to get into the groove of it.
Also NBA Street V3, pretty good but kinda prefer Vol.2 a bit more. But have to give it bonus points for having House of Pain.
5009  General Discussion / Game Discussion / Re: What are you playing? Episode 2: Sequel Reloaded! on: March 13, 2010, 03:30:04 pm
Been playing quite a bit of Animal Crossing: WW; So much fruit to sell, trees to cut down, weeds to pull, fish to catch...

And Rome: Total War, finally finished a Short Campaign as the House of Julii.
Thinking of a more Calvary oriented civilization for my next run.
