TIL you should never buy a computer on the cheap through a government scheme. My father bought this Dell Dimension 5150 that I'm using now as he's a teacher. Only now the DVD R/W drive won't burn and I was all ready to plumb in the replacement as a second drive ths afternoon only to discover that the new drive is a SATA (as has been the industry standard connection for internal gubbins for about five years now) but the motherboard and power unit are PATA. Square peg round hole. STA/PATA Adapter unit ordered and on its way. Those buggers at Dell were punting old PATA kit banking on foks not opening up the case to replace drives. Sneaky devils.
