no. It's quite different since the mechs themselves are near sentient beings. It's also heavily influenced by music. It's also really similar to Neon Genesis Evangelion except for the part where it tries to steal your inner child.

RahXephon is a good one to try out. It gets confusing at times but hey! Giant god like robots and a very interesting plot.
