It was even explained in the comic by Mercer that he had regained none of his original personal traits.
That means his personality is recently developed.

Some explanation on that would be very nice.

The song is about some massacre inflicted by Turkey on some Armenian fugitives a century ago.
It is a sweet song though. One of my favorites.
