You did this to Jenny too, didn't you, Greg? ;P

nuuuuuuuuuuuu Sad I would not want to do this to anyone.

This has not been a fun week for either of us. But definitely more so for Jenny. She was almost kinda sorta feeling better late Wednesday, and then Thursday became worse. She was a bit better yesterday, though- didn't have to spend *all* day in the bathroom and was actually able to sit up at her computer and eat solid food and such.

No comic on Monday, I'm afraid- at this point the question is more one of whether or not Jenny will be well enough to do her own filler or if I'll be asking another artist.

I got excited about cookies and picked up the Jenny yesterday and she went pop :/

We may be going back to the chiro again this weekend or Tuesday.

Well, TZH won't be ending anytime soon, even if we do launch the next comic this year (our tentative goal at the moment)

The story for TZH will play out and it will conclude following the plot Jenny has been working on for the past umpteen years Smiley

if I had to guess, we've got like... 3+ years to go on TZH? Not entirely sure. Jenny is the one behind the story.

I think you're right in your assessment of their value, but remember that the island only has a population of 5,000ish people- I doubt they'd have the manpower to be able to maintain a very large helicopter fleet, even if fuel isn't an issue. Whereas finding drivers is much easier, and ground vehicles are a lot easier to maintain.

Plus, tools and spare parts for cars and trucks can be looted from any Autozone, while helicopter parts are a bit more scarce Wink

...well, if you're intent on hauling cargo, roads are kinda nice Wink

So I have TZH on my google reader RSS feed, and I noticed the comics get cut off. I'm not sure if that's something Greg can fix, but just thought I'd say.
It's really just meant to be a preview of the comic, and not the entire comic. We'd like to get you interested enough to click and come visit our site.

Right now there's no set schedule. As Log! says, it's whenever she feels like it. Sorry I can't tell you when the next one will be Smiley

PP: Unlocking characters in Super Smash Brothers. Or, really, unlocking anything in any Nintendo party game.

"Here! Play our other modes that aren't really all that fun so you can unlock the things that are actually fun!"

Seriously- I always hated that when I played those games. It's like, we're here to have fun and hang out, not ring-out some damn jackass character 30 times in a row (or whatever it may be).

She's said in the comics that the animals don't turn, but if the traumatized kid's drawing is accurate, his zombified parents may have attacked the household pets. Or the kid might be crazy, who knows.

That said, most birds are apparently all out of fucks to give, so even if zombies do attack animals, birds might screw with a zombie just on principle.

We do know that animals don't *eat* zombies, though. So whatever's going on, I don't think it's coming down for a snack.

I don't know, Greg. I don't even know what you're talking about. Why would you ask me?
 Cheesy

Thank you, I needed a smile Smiley

edit:

The issue was that if someone clicked on the 'buy originals' link under the new comic, the shopping page went off into a ditch and died. It turned out to be a timezone issue. In order to keep sneaky people from reading ahead, the shopping page doesn't allow people to try to buy originals from future comics... but, the server doesn't live in the same time zone that we do. So, it went on insisting that today is yesterday, up is down, etc. etc.

All feeexed now. I hope, anyway, because is time for bed Smiley

Have a good night, Log Smiley

WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED. I TESTED THIS 'ORIGINALS' SHIT I KNOW I DID. WHY DOES IT NOT WORK NOW.

Don't burn yourself out man.  And if you see the grid, it's time to go to sleep before it comes for you against your will.

Those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, I envy your ability to consistently get good sleep.
Kinda. I don't see a grid, but hallucinate movement out of the corners of my eyes. While doing that zombie stare thing, you know?

PP: The huge mess that is politics in America. Here's who I want for President; the person comes out, introduces themselves, and tells you the things they've done wrong right up front. If they've cheated on their spouse, say it and apologize and move on. If they've done anything illegal. Say it. Move on. They wouldn't bring religion into the whole mess, and would go about things rationally. They'd understand that compromise must happen. And they'd do the things that need to get done, regardless of who it'll piss off and without thinking about whether or not they'll be re-elected.

But this will never happen.
Would be nice, but the bit about pissing folks off is why. I can't wait 'til the ads go away, at least. Or slow down a bit after the election.

PP: Still grinding away on the originals. On the bright side, the batch processing is actually working. On the down side, there's about 500 more to go, and then all of the originals need to be put into the store properly.

Time to rewrite the entire website, right? Wink

Kinda. Different pieces of the website are different ages and quality, depending on when I put them together. I first started helping with the site in 2006, and when Katie left, took over from her in something like 2007 I think? The older bits of the site have been almost entirely replaced. Some of them two or three times. But each piece has to be set up to work with whatever old crap hasn't been replaced yet.

One of the projects I'm working on is one to allow translators to translate the text of the site and the comics, so that we can host translated versions of the comic here as well. That's been a task and a half. The originals issue was that back in the day, Jenny never did filler, alternate storyline comics, etc. So, comic 1 was comic 1, forever. The engine was originally built with that premise. But with the murblesaur, and the occasional holiday filler, now comic 400 ain't actually the 400th comic posted. So the originals had a kluge in them where they'd adjust the offset by X depending on how far along the user was when browsing through files. But that always had to be updated by hand, and Jenny never could set up new originals for the store without my help. So I had to tear that out and rebuild it. And since I'm doing the translations anyway, I had to make sure that the systems will be compatible with each other. After all, a german translation has the same original lineart as an english comic.

If I had to guess, I think the oldest bits of the site right now are probably the display functions that power the galleries. That particular code hasn't really changed much. The core of the site, I completely redid in something like... 2009? maybe 2008. For a while we even incorporated WordPress as a way to have folks comment on the newspost, and so Jenny could run a blog on the site, but it got buried in spam, so I wound up removing it.

Also, I ramble when I'm tired :p

PP: Oh my fucking god this back-end replacement will be the death of me. Bringing this project up to a decent standard, and killing off the years of kluges, still isn't done, and I've spent 23 of the last 40 hours on this project. I'm running on coffee and no sleep, and I don't even like coffee. WHY CAN'T WE HAVE NICE THINGS?

The end goal is to have a setup where you guys can buy the original artwork for the comic as soon as the comic is posted. But this thing winds its way through umpteen different functions and something somewhere is fenceposting or using a comic number as an ID number or an array key or sometimes ALL OF THE ABOVE for no apparent reason because I can only assume that I WAS POSSESSED BY CTHULHU when I wrote the original code.
