Brandon sat silently absorbing the information as Zach laid it out for him but it was hard to contain his enthusiasm as the subject turned to his music.
"So what kind of music you guys play?"
He leaned forward, grinning. "We write all our own stuff so it's hard to describe, most people call us a metal band but we have a groove you know? That really comes from our bass player, Joey, he's into Primus and does that crazy slap bass funk thing. It doesn't sound like it would work but it really kicks ass. I'm into a lot of punk and death metal so I'm all about the blast beats and speed you know? But it has to SOUND good. I don't use as much distortion as a lot of metal guys because when you play that fast you don't need it, it's just noise. You have to have melody to go with it. That's why Metallica sucked so bad after Cliff Burton died, he was the only guy in the band who really got the melody." Brandon stopped and visibly wound himself down, "sorry I got carried away sometimes," he cracked his knuckles and grinned sheepishly.

Brandon shrugged. "Not much to tell. I dropped of high school because I knew if I sat in a classroom any longer I was going to go insane." He paused to finish his coffee. "Now I'm making a living with my band, it's been great so far. My parents are still expecting me to fuck it up and come crawling back home to them. I'd rather sleep in a cardboard box than go back though."
"You sound like you know something about this things, anything I should know up front?"

Brandon visibly grit his teeth at the word "nightmares."
"I've had nightmares for years and I know evil exists in this world, monsters whatever. I saw it myself years ago but not like this , not like today. No, today was different," he gripped his coffee cup and stared deep into it, not so much talking to Mary as talking and knowing that she was listening. "I want do what I can to help you get your kid back. Whatever this is I hope it helps me find answers to what happened me back then."
Brandon trailed off, not really sure what else to say. He ran his hand through his hair, through the gray streak he had, as though trying to rub it away.
He looked up as Zach sat down and smiled. "It's no sweat, my name is Brandon, good to see you again."

(((Other than some caffiene jitters nothing to resolve in the coffee shop.)))
Brandon nods at Mary as she sits down across from him.
He took a moment to study her before he said anything, sipping his coffee. "You look like you need some sleep," he said finally. He was concerned at the fatigue he saw in her eyes, yet the obvious pain and determination he also saw dissuaded him from saying anything further. Instead he changed subjects.
"So this is all pretty new to me, is this a regular thing for you? Seeing monsters and stuff I mean? What's going on out there?"

Mystery Science Theater 3000 aka MST3K. It was a cable comedy show where a guy would watch crappy movies with two robots and they would mercilessly make fun of it from start to finish. Awesome fun. Not really the realm of the webcomic thread but google it, or better yet go find one of the season box sets and buy it. Also check out the modern day incarnation, "Rifftrax." NINJA'D by ensouls.
