2506  General Discussion / Game Discussion / Re: What are you playing? Episode 2: Sequel Reloaded! on: July 06, 2010, 05:56:51 am
I remember buying Izuna near when it came out for $30. One of the few times I bought a non-PC game new and near it's release date.
It's far more forgiving than Shiren, that's for sure, and quicker to boot.

And also give me the heads up if Izuna 2 is worth a purchase.

Wish I knew that before I tossed that staff aside three rounds ago...

MUCH more forgiving.  You can save EXP between deaths?  Pssh...  But the items do break which is interesting.  I haven't gotten far into it, I'll report more later.

And the staff of stability?  You won't trip on those stumble traps and break jars full of good stuff as long as you carry it (not in a jar.)  VERY handy later on when they have those stupid stumble traps everywhere.

I have failed at finding Izuna: Legend of the unemployed ninja but I did find the sequel for 9 bucks at GameStop and snapped it up.  More Roguelike goodness awaits me!

Oh, and add a staff of stability to your must have item list for Shiren, uber useful and I'm angered I lost mine.  Friggin electrified items...

Fallout 3 was OK at best and barely deserved to be called a Fallout game. I still play it now and again to try to complete the DLC I paid for and it's not completely horrific but it felt more like Oblivion with a different paint job than Fallout.  I'd rather have spent the time replaying FO 1 and 2.

Take the above statement with the appropriate grains of salt of course, I am a card carrying glittering gem of hatred.

I disliked Dark Forces 2, not the gameplay which was actually pretty good but the fact they made Kyle Katarn a Jedi.  Kyle Katarn was a badass in DF 1 because he WASN'T a Jedi.  It would have been a better game IMO if it had a different protaganist.

Red Dead Redemption, pretty much all week.  I got my 100% complete achievement Tuesday night and I've been playing the multiplayer like a fiend ever since.  I just finished a bag march wherein I siezed a cannon and proceeded to mercilessly shell the enemy team.  They wasted so much manpower trying to kill me my team mopped up and I finished with a 42 to 3 kill/death ratio.  It was supremely satisfying.  laugh

Well, Darwinia kinda crashed on me, so I'mma play Uplink instead.

Or Multiwinia. Or Defcon. Either way, I paid only five bucks for these games. :3

Uplink rocks so hard.

ToeJam and Earl, two hours in and only on level 19, but ToeJam is a homey.
And the ship part is right beside the exit; been waiting for this to happen for 18 levels.

You're really making me want to bust out TJ & E again.  The first and third are really the only ones that have the roguelike feel, the second one is fun but it's a pretty linear side scroller.

I DID have TJ & E on my iPod Touch but the Genesis emulator for it was REALLY buggy and I deleted it quickly.

Indeed it is! Only game where you can tether a truck to a helicopter and slam it into a gas station, as far as I know. XD

Nah, you could do that with the winch choppers back in the first Mercenaries for the PS2/XBox.  I killed many a surprised grunt with my tank flail back in the day.

ToeJam snd Earl were the shit, I own and have beaten all 3 but I never made the roguelike connection.

AP:  TJ & E are Roguelikes!

Nice.

AP:  Being revived by HK in Shiren.

Sweet, you're the best man.

EDIT:  I am revived!  The soul crushing will continue in the morning!

DOUBLE EDIT:  Did you get any cool swag?
2518  General Discussion / Game Discussion / Re: RogueLikes... on: June 24, 2010, 09:20:58 pm
If you're on Old Mines 8 my dusty old bones should be underfoot.
2519  General Discussion / Game Discussion / Re: RogueLikes... on: June 24, 2010, 09:12:58 pm
Sweet,  you should be able to keep whatever you find plus the monk is supposed to reward you as well for helping another wanderer.  I've been told some of his rewards are rare drops you can't get otherwise.

EDIT:  Be careful with armowards, they make you hungry twice as fast as other shields.  And watch for those f*cking rice changers,  I had a jar with two blastwave scrolls and two scrolls of need turned into a riceball today.  Between that and my humiliating death my Shiren cart almost ended up over Niagara Falls.  (Which were very nice today I might add.)

I'll be honest, I'm not sure if those are zeros or o's but whichever they are they're the same.   I died right at the start of floor 8, the first floor of the mines.  After a bad run in with a spikebomb I took two steps towards the massuese guy for healing and got nailed by a skull mage from across the room I hadn't noticed.

Thanks man, if you ever need a rescue let me know.
