Greg got me started on Dwarf Fortress, it's probably more in depth than even NetHack.  It's a different breed of game though.  Have you guys tried the old Rings Of Angband?  It's a Lord of the Rings Roguelike and it's hellishly hard.  I had always seem to get mauled by Nazgul when I play.

And my wanton computer destruction wasn't as bad as it sounds.  One computer got fried when I left it over a weekend computing Pi to ridiculously long decimal places, the second one died computing large prime numbers.  I had a nifty little program written that was supposed to keep track of its last prime so it would write it to a dat file when the program stopped.  Sadly I had that in the wrong part of the do loop and it wrote EVERY prime to the file so the hard drive sort of ate itself.  The third was just an old machine thats time had come but by that point I wasn't getting the benefit of the doubt.   laugh

You are what gamers today should be, TLO. For you have amazing, old-school taste.

Heh, Nethack was actually the direct cause of my final ban (on pain of being expelled) from network access at college.  After destroying not one or two, but three computers AND installing the Quake shareware on every computer in the CompSci lab plus a number of other miscellaneous fuck ups I was on the network admins shit list for pretty much my entire last year.

Since I was  CompSci/Programming major I hardly had any classes that weren't in a computer lab so when I wasn't surfing webcomics I had my anti boredom floppy which was equipped with an IRC client and of course Nethack on it.  One day, less than a month from graduation I was trying to stay awake during a Visual Basic class by guiding Deadpool the Samurai and his dog SlayTooth through the dungeon once again when the sysadmin, one of his intern assistants and some other mook marched into class like the Gestapo and dragged me out for a major ass chewing.  The clever/stupid intern had noted I was running "malicous software" on the system (one instance of NetHack.exe) and had violated roughly a billion rules in doing so.  The fact I spent most of the ass-chewing laughing at them didn't help I'm sure.  They wouldn't even run the thing to prove it was just a game.  I of course created a new network account for myself and I refrained from playing NetHack in class anymore.  And yes, I did manage to graduate.   laugh

Now I feel like playing NetHack again...

Has anyone gotten the Gnome to unlock today?  I've had five of six mutations played since Last Man on Earth last week, I just spent literally hours playing chainsaw massacre and no frickin' gnome.  I feel cheated...

Nethack is life itself... I grew up playing Roguelike games and the Doom one is lots of fun.   Outlaw with an upgrade

technically finished red dead redemption. Got the credits so... *thumbs up*

I did that Monday night, I'm almost at 100% completion.  I only need a few more bounties captured and the US Marshall outfit and I'm done.  Speaking of which... the 100% completion checklist on the Rockstar social club would be awesome if it worked but it's way glitchy.

PP:  My fucking insomnia.  I have no reason in the world why I shouldn't be sleeping but I just never fucking seem to sleep.  It's making me short tempered and mean (more so than usual even.)

Playing Alpha Protocol right now.

It's not UTTER shit...

But it's not an A-list title by any stretch.  Graphics are servicable, character models and animations are a few generations behind the times, the levels are far too linear (at least in the first mission hub area.)  I've seen sparks of cool stuff (the gun modification, the dialog) but it all feels like it could have been better.  I would rake it just at or slightly below mediocre.

I'm hoping it at least has good replay value, I plan to play it again with wildly different choices just to see how much "your weapon is choice" holds true.  But so far I can only say I'm REALLY dissapointed in Obsidian.  I had high hopes for this and the lack of polish really has no excuse, I mean the game was supposed to release last October.  An extra seven months to polish should have made it shine like a mirror.  If this is an improvement over what was going to be released in October I shudder to think of how bad it was.

Do both, it seems appropriate.

This pic needs to be in the Shoop the crazies thread with slender man right now.

I curse the fact that I am at work and photoshop is at home.

the Blind hack in LINC-space doesn't last long enough to get the tuning fork needed to download the virus, dammit.
This is hands down the most frustrating part of the game, I swear the programmers only allow the smallest fraction of a second of margin.  Curse them...
