Perfectly rational, though a "complete change of culture" would be a bit damn radical and demanding.
Other than that, I would like to point out to every American or European here: This also goes for YOU! You are not an exception. Just something to think about in case you were to move to a country with different culture.

No question so I'll answer the previous one.
No idea, I've never had pancake syrup. I either have honey or sugar and lemon juice on my pancakes, though if it's crepes rather than pancakes I usually just eat them with nowt but the butter they were cooked in.
I've actually got a packet of crepes. Should I go buy some butter, wash my frying pan and cook some up?
