Deliberately. I'd sharpen my re-enactment weapons up so they could be used if needed, but (other than maybe one of my axes instead of the hatchet) I wouldn't take them out with me. While a sword is a bloody effective weapon, I think the machete would do just as much damage but would be more useful as an all-round tool. It's better balanced for woodworking, for example.

btw cheez how long is your machetes blade? mines a oil over 2 ft.

33cm/13 inches. Not a particularly big one, but that's OK. It gets the job done.
