The more serious zombie films dont seem to have zombie fiction because otherwise it would be like. "Oh that person just got up from the dead, they must be a zombie. We simply have to destroy their brain. Oh and the infection is spread by bodily fluids." It would be really boring.

If a movie is set in modern times, of course there's zombie fiction. I just always assumed that there was, they don't really need to point it out or anything for it to be there.
