Do you see 2020?
Well, now you do. Cheesy

19 years into the 3rd common era millennium. (1-1000, 1001-2000, 2001- )
No flying cars.  No widespread nuclear power.  No widespread peace...and no peace dividend driving it all.

Still tons of potential, though.  We're not done yet.  Plus, no zombies....for some values of zombie.
Here's a plan though.
1) elect well-educated adults with strong critical thinking skills and an innate desire to solve problems into all offices, from local to high office.
2) build Advanced nuclear power plants to power each domestic military base.  Use the military to provide security, because...duh.  Use previous submariners to learn the new systems, and teach newbies from both the military and the civilian nuclear communities.  Sell the excess power back into the grid.  Once training and designs are locked down, let commercial power companies start building them...or nationalize them, paying off investors.
3) Shut down the coal plants, and pay for worker education and/or retraining.  Or simply give early retirement to the older workers.
4) Keep the NG plants around for on-demand power.  These plants are flexible.
5) Slap solar panels on the south side of all skyscrapers.  Solar-in-place will still be viable, and will reduce the impact on the Grid.
6) The Grid does not have the capacity to power our future society and will need to be expanded.  See solar power above.
7) Go to Single Payer Medical system to reduce costs.  This is a huge benefit.
Cool Look carefully at each "privatized" industry, and consider bringing it back in-house for cost savings.
9) Look even more carefully at the Defense Industry, and sharpen your pencils.  Defense is critical, but funding and knowledge leakage undermines our abilities.
10) Look for lessons in other police forces around the world, and bring them home.  Upgrade our training, and retrain our police forces.
11)  Make it absolutely crystal clear that bigotry is not tolerated in public service.  Provide counseling as needed, but either those people will change, or those people will change...by being let go.

And that's a start.  Justice for All is a real thing, and it is what really powers our society.

Nice to see the place looking so clean at least. Has anything changed? *notices that old hard chewed up bubble gum that was under desk is gone.   Carry on then
