Well, she's also 16, too.
And it looks like she's finally able to do stuff like an average adult. (Zombie killing game that Greg mentions) But, it still looks like she has a problem connecting with people. Like you said, maybe she's a bit too morbid than she should be. However, we have yet to really see if Katie kills(ed) any zombies because it is never shown. :B
