I'd accept the military getting shooty shooty on civies if the containment situation was bad enough the require it. If it's a choice between shooting a thousand infected civilians with the possibility that some were clean, and having that thousand become a hoard and overpower the local forces and cause a major outbreak I'd go with the former option.

I think that trying to fight would just be plain suicidal. I mean, even if you win, you just wasted time and resources fighting a battle that you could've just fled from. Unless of course, you've got nowhere to run, then you go all cornered chicken and struggle until they cut your head off.

Well I doubt too many of us would find it kinky to spend hours plucking 9mm, or 55.6 outta ourselves, and spend valuable ammo to stay alive.
