I'm not sure fences would be secure enough. I'd go for a nice solid wall. For fences and lighter barriers, preferably they should be angled slightly towards the outside to make climbing more difficult. Sorta like this: \ \  \  I guess it might be a little off-balance, though, so maybe some extra supports inside might help...I'm no architect. Even better is a place on higher terrain. Houses will start simple with an A-frame, as suggested before. The roofs will be high enough for people to not be able to reach with height alone, but has some point of access, like an attic ladder. |

Cant they jump retardedly high though? Most castle walls that I have seen arent that high at certain points. Maybe 4-6 metres. Also there are trees nearby that you would have to cut down to prevent them climbing up a tree then leaping across.
Assuming there are nearby trees, they'd be cut down anyway for fuel and building materials. As for lower sections of wall, that's just a simple case of rebuilding. Also, what usable castles have you seen that have walls that low? Seems a tad odd to me... |

Didn't see this post earlier. There's functional castles (Restored for tourists or ones that have been turned into hotels or toff houses but could be changed back nice and quick), there's usable ruins (EG ones that still have high walls etc) and then there's the absolute ruins. You'd be a fool to use the latter, but the former two would do fine. |
