Ferrero Rocher are some of my favorite gourmet chocolates. Hell, in chocolates period.

I made each my girlfriend and myself a spinach and green onion omelet with pepper jack and American cheese. First time I've tried this, improvised a lot of it, and nailed it so hard. T'was damn good.

I had some cheese parathas for lunch today. They're basically a layer of cheese between two layers of pastry, you dry-fry them. Bloody lovely, though they are incredibly easy to burn.

I'll take it! So, last night I tried to follow this recipe to make some venison fried rice. It was good, but it didn't turn out how I wanted it to. It didn't have the consistency that most fried rice has, it was more like a lightly seared mash of white rice...I dunno. Anyone have any tips to make fried rice that's actually like fried rice?

I freakin' love fried rice, and have it fairly often. Straight away I noticed what was wrong- the oil you're using. First things first, the recipe says 'oil for stir-frying'. If I didn't know better and saw that recipe I'd assume they just meant vegetable oil. Is that what you used, or did you use stir fry oil? Stir fry oil is better than veg oil, but personally I use groundnut oil at first, then sesame oil. The order seems a tad funny too. Personally I'd do the egg first like they say (Never tried to make egg fried rice, so... *shrug), then I'd lightly fry the onions (and whatever else you're adding) in some groundnut oil. Once they're done to taste, add the rice. Then add the sesame oil and soy/oyster sauce, and fry until done. using the right amount of oil is pretty tricky- I have a tendency to put too much in as I like the sesame oil's flavour- but once you've done it a few times you should figure out how much is best.
These fancy oils can be pretty damn expensive. I'm lucky, my local Lidl does them for 99p/bottle.

Thanks Cheez, I'll try those out. I was using Canola Oil; I bought it to use in some other recipes that called for it specifically, and it's the only oil I have at the moment, but oh I will remedy that! I've been getting my cook on. I figure just getting in the kitchen and trying stuff out is the best way to learn. Once I get down the fried rice, I want to try Stir Fried Oats. It's not something I had ever heard of until two days ago, and it sounds good to me.

Two words: Jello cake
Make a cake (we usually use yellow or white cake mix), and use something to poke lots of holes in it. Now make jello on your stove-top and pour it into the holes so that all/most of the cake is dyed. Put it in the fridge for several hours until it's cold and firm. Frost the cake with cool whip.
It's quite delicious, and I usually request it for my birthday.
