I think it will end when all of the main characters are stuck in a basement until Charlie runs outta Plasma Pops and other viscera fortified protien supplements and perfects JenCo stroganoff while the rest of the world withers away due to creative neglect.

Anti-deadite infectives, sprayed from aircraft.
It will infect the dead, and suddenly speed up the natural decay processes that have somehow been put on hold.
A few hours, maybe a couple of days, and SPLAT!  Bone piles galore.

After fighting off bands of marauders, we came across the base.
It's personnel were dead, killed by any one of a number of virulent diseases. We cracked the doors and cleared out the bodies inside.
We knew that things would never be the same again.
But we were determined to build a new world out of the ruins.
We rebuilt the landing pads and brought the old systems back online.

We were finally ready to begin The Project...
