A girl two years younger than me that I knew in elementary school just added me on facebook the other day. Turns out, the 17 year old girl has a 4 month old daughter. Her status? What the fuck is wrong with people these days. I don't know girl, you tell me?

Is it just me, or does the fact that I know way to many people my age or slightly younger have children seem fucking insane?

Because people are id driven to the point that they literaly cannot see their flaws or mistakes and the constant nurturing of this id response by coddling failure throughout school leaves most without a healthy self assessment ability, ergo things happen to them beyond their control, their bred to be self absorbed victims.

I knew a girl my last year in high school, who was 16, and had two kids, one of which was 4. She also thought she was a Crip.

So, most of you probably saw the video of an upset parent from some southern USA state, talking about his daughter, and then shooting her laptop.
It weirds me out when people react cheeringly to this video, for this guy just admitted that he was not able to rise his daughter as he would like to, and did it publicly.
I have one sentence for this guy: Kids don't get spoiled by themselves.
Also, i don't know much about parenting, but i don't think that trying to publicly embarrass your child is a thing that wise parents do.

I am on shooting guys side in this.  Parenting is not absolute control, kids are exposed to external factors (such as school or facebook.)  If he was spoiling her he'd be giving in.  Instead he responded to her public bitchin by publicly asserting his own view.  Parents influence how kids turn out but are not solely responsible for their offsprings thoughts or actions.

He spoiled her before, and now woke up with his pants down, and reacted well, childlishly, id say.
If his daughter was an adult, then it would make perfect sense to respond to her publicly. But she is what, 16, 17? most kids this age are idiots. (As anyone who is past this age would agree, i hope. I do not mean to offend teenagers here.) (i love when people do that, offending someone, and then asking them to not be offended, but i hope that you guys know what i mean)
Fuck, parenting must be hard.

I do think the bigger issue is how his daughter got to be spoiled in the first place, but as TLO said, the father may not be entirely at fault. He mentions in there that he and her mother are separated, so as outside observers we don't know how much influence he really had in her up bringing. Going off of memory I think he also mentioned he was in the military before too, so there's another thing that could've prevented him from raising her how he'd of wanted to.

As for shooting the laptop, at the time I did laugh, but honestly he could've given it to someone less fortunate, or that would have appreciated it. But, it was his property, so *shrug* schwatever, I don't think it was the greatest decision, but the rest of what he did I don't see anything that is obviously objectionable without knowing more about their specific situation.

Deciding that she was OMG SOOO SPOILED because she vented her frustration was retarded anyway. Yeah, she did what 99% of humans do on a regular basis (the remaining 1% being vegetables and fetuses) TEH! HORROR!
Being frustrated about everyday life is normal. Wanting to vent it is healthy. A child who does it on Facebook did something dumb. (You want to do it to someone who won't repeat it once you've calmed down, not a random pulic.) A parent who thinks his child is OMG SPOIIIILED because she ranted has a problem in his own head. Yeah, your child judges you! You somehow managed to miss it until she was a teen, and made a spectacular public display of missing an occasion to teach her how to deal with it in a civil way! Congratulations!

I dunno, I didn't get the impression in this particular case that the claim of her being spoiled was because she vented, more because she (according to the father) exaggerated the chores that she had to do, and then felt that she was deserving of payment for her chores. I don't think the father articulated this well when explaining, the time and money he puts into getting her the items that she asks for is her payment. He certainly could've expressed that better. Also the girl calls a family friend of theirs "their maid", and thought she ought to have been doing her chores for her, which he thought was disrespectful; and depending on the circumstance I might agree. It's hard to tell tone over text, and as he read her venting, he may have thought she was using the term maid to be derogative? (I'm not sure that's the word I'm looking for)

Anyways, I'm not saying the father is faultless; and there probably are better ways of handling the situation. I just wanted to clarify the claim on why the girl is seen as spoiled.

AM: Seems that i missed the part about separation and military, or just plain forgot it. Though, i don't think that has a lot to do with the argument whether this guy behaved like a sensible adult or not.
To me, the shooting a laptop part was just plain weird, but here such laptop costs about 1-1,5 of an average monthly income.
One more thing: the father says that he works in IT. To work in IT, use the internet everyday, and not know what internet might do with such video is very stupid, though he did all of this while still being apeshit mad. (have you noticed how he sometimes stops talking, almost like stopping tears and crying? i do that sometimes, when im also extremely mad and dissapointed, so i noticed it, i might be wrong though.) Probably he is very sorry now, but thats just one more lesson to all of us, to think twice before uploading something here.
