I haven't seen this video yet. Does anyone know some sort of link I can follow so I can see it, or the title of the video? I can form my own opinion better if I watched it....
EDIT: Thanks, AM.

Though, i don't think that has a lot to do with the argument whether this guy behaved like a sensible adult or not.
Fair enough. If the girl is indeed spoiled(and if she's not then the guys is just an arse), I don't think the idea behind what he did was entirely wrong, just to the extreme. Essentially I see spoiled people as being arrogant, because they feel entitled when they're undeserving, and so to correct this you would want to humble them. Taking away property that one feels entitled to, and demonstrating that the only thing they really have claim over is what they directly earn is one way of doing this. However! Shooting the laptop I can certainly see how that can be seen as too harsh a form of trying to humble her. Like I said, the thought behind it's sane, how he executed the thought was extreme. EDIT: Here you go Newb

I am not saying that trying to humble her is a bad thing, she probably deserves it(for all we know). My point is: Trying to embarass your child on purpose in front of others is bad. Publicly displaying the problems of your family (normal problems id say, as children vs parents thing is pretty normal, i think) also is bad. Would gathering a hundred people, reading saying what he said and then shooting a laptop in front of everyone would make sense to you? This guy did that, but not to a hundred people, but to at least 24 milion. Holy fuck. thats just 5 million less than entire poland:P Also this girl is 15 years old. Seriously? I remember when i was 15. While still being more mature than most of my friends (i had waaay less fights with my parents) I was a goddamn retard. Girls? I don't want to sound sexist (IM DOIN IT AGAIN, YAY!) but puberty seems to be harder for girls... Also, as Dodom said, he gave a terrible example on how to deal with stress and anger.

Okey dokey...I've looked at the comments section, this forum, thought about it and I have my opinion.
I agree on the fact that the letter was rather immature and disrespectful. It seemed to give the tone of, indeed, a spoiled child (especially where she thought she ought to be paid for doing chores, a lot of kids don't even have 25 cent allowances). She deserved discipline, that's for sure.
But, I also agree that shooting the laptop was an unnecessary dramatization and a waste of good technology (it looks so new!). Posting on her Facebook wall would've been fine, IMO, had it not spread so widely. Facebook being Facebook, it spread. She's gonna have some tough times in school. It's humbling, but on the other hand, she likely wouldn't cope well.
Points stated, I'm still siding with the parent. I don't like Facebook that much, anyway. I feel the urge to hate almost every single Facebook post I've seen (including mine).

Honestly, doing it on the internet didn't stand out to me as being the bigger issue; but I can see why one could say that amplifies the severity of what he did.
Punishing her publicly is certainly more harsh, and if what the father says is true (something that I'm not claiming to know) then it's likely he also shamed his daughter as well by making public something she said in frustration. However in my experience what someone says in frustration, while it may be exaggerated, is often pretty true to how they feel, and if what she said isn't something she's proud of, then it reinforced the intended humility.
What he did was one of the more severe forms of trying to humble her. I'm unconvinced that what he did was morally wrong, although one could say it wasn't right as there are better methods for teaching.

If only I had shot my daughters laptop, I may have kept her from the darkside. And I'd be an internet celebrity.

This, something completely unexpected. And I haven't seen the hit video or any pictures but he shot the laptop infront of his daughter, right? Not that it changes my opinion on wasting good, pawn-able technology.

Nah, he shot it on video after giving a long speech, then uploaded the video to her facebook. He mentions in the video that she may not ever see the video due to being grounded, though as others have pointed out, he was quite emotional at the time he made it

At least there were some morals about, and emotion, points for that. And the kid will be feeling it at school when the other kids go "Dayum! Your old man shot dat shit up yo!" So much text on this, can't possibly remember it all apart from what's most recent.

I wanted to say it yesterday but changed my mind because the thread was buried in SRS: My iguana is a boy. Iguanas are born without apparent sexual traits and those grow later. Well Yoshi's wax glands began to work, he got tiny, needle-like wax-plugs growing: since he's starting puberty pretty early, he's small and the glands are still narrow. If girl iguanas could giggle, he would be SO embarrassed.
