I own 3 fedoras, all purchased long ago in aspirations to be like Indiana Jones when I grew up. I would say that makes me able to lay claim to pre-dating hipsterism but just saying something like that would defeat the purpose so I won't.

The last game of Pathfinder I played resulted in a total party KO/kill, so everyone is making new characters. Except me. See, I've had my bard Cori sitting on the sidelines a bit to recover from the psychological trauma that came with being unwillingly impregnated by an oni as a result of our sorcerer not thinking things through when making deals, carrying the child to term, then being sucked into the Ice Plane along with the rest of the party so the oni could take her child. Now with the events of the last session, her brother is missing, though possibly alive since I managed to stabilize before dying. Oh, and her father is a chaotic evil pirate king who has become one of the campaign's villains, and since the deal-making sorcerer died in the last session, the deal with the oni is void and he can return to the Material Plane to wreak havoc in his new Elf body courtesy of Cori's baby. Pretty much her whole family is dead, missing, or evil. My characters have really shitty lives. On the plus side, since the sorcerer is dead and she'd been staying in his home, all of his shit is hers now. Including his house.

That sounds about on par with other character stories. Of course, you can't expect to have any halfway decent life to make a good story, or even a morbidly entertaining one. I don't think I've ever met a character who hasn't been through outrageous amount of horseshit before getting a break.

Well, you've never read about Dox Breezeblood, my sylph ninja that can turn any failure into a success. Except for fucking magic locks.

@Xanatos, yeah, seriously. The happiest character I've had was my very first, Dave the Barbarian, and even his life went to shit when things started progressing. He found joy in finding and befriending animals, and the very first thing I ever had him do was find a frog and play leapfrog with it, declaring the frog his best friend. Then the frog was unceremoniously killed. Later on he bought a pony, named it Brony, and took it with him everywhere. Then it fell into a deep ravine and died, though that was my fault >>
Daelin, on the other hand, was knocked out in every single encounter, so much so that I'm surprised he never got brain damage. As much as I tried to do well with him, his only notable traits were being a drunken snarky asshole who got beat up a lot. And now he may or may not be enslaved by a Brine Dragon.
I'm really hoping I can step it up with Cori. She's only taken damage maybe once or twice the entire time I've played as her, and now that I actually know what I'm doing when it comes to spellcasting, a lot of what she can do can really turn the tides of most encounters in our favor. Plus I've been chosen as the face of the party, so I'm going to be making use of her people-skills...or charm spells...quite a bit to hopefully make things go our way.
@Log. Please, do tell.

Dave the Barbarian was hilarious, so Disney cancelled it.
