I had to see some specialists over my sleep disorder. I was seeing a pneumologist in case it was caused by sleep apnea, but when I mentionned the morning hallucinations, the doctor got all excited because it happens that doctors like to uncover cases of rare diseases. I was on a waiting list to see a neurologist in about six months but he upgraded my request to urgent so I got an appointment within the day. While we waited for the neurologist to finish his current appointment, the pneumologist fetched an intern because "you might not see another case of narcolepsy in your whole carreer!" Because plenty of problems can cause falling asleep at unwanted times, but hallucinating when waking up is pretty typical of narcolepsy.
The neurologist explained that while narcolepsy is ill-understood, the current theory is that it is autoimmune, with the body producing antibodies against some neurotransmitters. My immune system, you may know, is made of dicks and cocks and is a huge jerk. I take four kinds of anti-inflammatories on a regular basis, because my white bloodcells have the habit of eating holes into my colon, sinuses, mouth, skin, and capillaries (and no treatment works against the last one, it causes blisters and burn-like sores from blood plasma leaking under skin) it's not a big surprise if it got a taste for brains too. What a dick.
So I'm supposed to pass some tests in the next month and when it's done they say since it's not a very bad case (very bad cases have attacks every day, while if I avoid some situations I can go weeks without any) Ritalin will probably be enough to control the symptoms.

I spent the best part of 12 years on ritallin and I was nothing like i am now.
I was a major social recluse and while i was able to concentrate it was the scary "everything else doesnt matter" type. and i mean EVERYTHING.
It seems like its one of those drugs thats thrown at things.
