Charity shops: you have to love them. You get books for 50p, you donate to a good cause and you can donate the volumes you decide against keeping back to them. Recently it was "Chronicles of the Raven: Elfsorrow"- some nice ideas in it but a bit confusing as it's volume n in a series of N books. Also "Weaveworld" by Clive Barker: a few nice ideas again but nothing was really explored and it was bloated; rather than read that read "Cabal" (the book which the film "Nightbreed" was based upon) as there's the same motifs of persecution, humanity/inhumanity, belonging and loss and even power-exuding-from-the-body-as-a-quasi-independent-entity. And the Angel Uriel was hardly in it though was rather cool and the idea of The Surgeons could have been better illustrated.

Clive Barker is very hit or miss for me. I loved Thief of Always, despite being a "kids book" because it was very well written. But too much of his other stuff is as you said, "bloated."

Young Jesus Chronicles. A comic that pokes fun at the bible, without being offensive about it. My pastor's the one that suggested it to me. lol.

When you finish the books make sure you track down the old computer games. Good old school adventure gaming with loads of funny. And Eric Idle provided the voice of Rincewind
