Read the second and third books of "The Strain" trilogy by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. Second book ("The Fallen") didn't seem as great as the first book, and I'm quite disappointed and pissed with the last book, "The Night Eternal".
I guess it has something to do with an angel being the first vampire. Idk, I thought that was pretty stupid, even if the writers did come up with reasons as to why vampires can't touch silver, be in sunlight, etc... I also hated that Eph, after being knocked unconscious, is visited by an angel in his dream, who shows him how to read the book. I thought that just seemed "too convenient", or whatever.
I'm not anti-religious or pro-religious anything... it just seemed (for lack of better word) "silly"...
I'm not sure exactly what I don't like about the third book, but I do know that I scoff at the third book, and love the first one.
Edit: I looked up some reviews on Amazon, and I'm happy that there are some people that were better able to put into words why I thought "The Night Eternal" kinda sucked, but apparently a lot more people gave it five stars and didn't care that it didn't quite have the same "taste" as the first two. Greg Bear's "Forge of God" and its sequel "Hammer Of Stars" - Ouch! NASTY hardcore SF. If you haven't then go read it/them. If you're on twitter look me up as @opusfluke as I post what I'm reading and what I think when finished. Currnently on Feist's "Talon of the Silv er Hawk". I mean I missed the bit where Pug got married and had kids after The Rift War Trilogy...

I'm about to finish the 5th book in A Song of Ice and Fire. I like the story, but I still don't like his writing style, although it has been getting better as it goes.
Not sure what I'm gonna move on to afterward. :/

Band of Brothers. I picked it up cheap at a book sale and it awesome. It motivated me to buy the mini series which is also awesome.

The prologue for Fate/Stay Night, as long as a short story, if not more so. I'll have to watch the anime and Fate/Zero someday to compliment it.
And The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie, got the recommendation from another forum and it's some real good stuff so far. Feels grimy with all the violence and delightful inquisition action.

Simon R. Green... *deep breath* Deathstalker Prelude Deathstalker Deathstalker Rebellion Deathstalker War And currently getting through Deathstalker Honour. And there's another four books to go, which I have to order online. The whole Deathstalker series is high-octane Space Opera with tongue in cheek. Basically the Empire is ruled by a total maniac called Empress Lionstone XIV aka "The Iron Bitch". When she outlaws Owen Deathstalker it leads to an attempted rebellion that ropes in The Hadenmen (a race of cyborgs once known as "The Enemy of Humanity"), mad psychers, hackers, clones, a near unkillable race of alien bio-weapons, The Rogue AIs of Shub (the current "Enemies of Humanity"), and a whole bunch of factions too complicated to explain. Big guns (that can only shoot one every two minutes), big swords (used while the guns are recharging, makes for interesting tactics), animated corpses used as terror weapons, some seriously messed up people, more political infighting and scheming than Renaissance Italy and a conspirator who takes more drugs than Hunter S. Thompson and still manages to be deadly in a duel these books are funny, disturbing and never boring. Though I will warn you reading about the torture of Jenny Psycho in Silo 9 aka "Wormboy Hell" is a little unpleasant in "Deathstalker Rebellion".

DR_Evil gave me a copy of that a while back. It's about one of a dozen or so Heinleins I hadn't read yet. The meetings and committees that get organised: Classic Bob!

Started Before They Are Hanged, book 2 of The First Law series by Joe Abercrombie. Some real good fantasy stuff and Inspector Glokta is by far one of my favorite characters in fantasies that I can recall. Dark humor, killing, grit and all-around good fun.
