You've probably heard me talk about Gouli's illness. So, aside from antibiotics for her mouth infection, the treatment to keep her kidneys working as long as possible is water, water and more water. She has to take baths since iguanas will drink more when sitting in water than when sitting next to it. The problem here was that Gouli spent her entire live without bathing. Iguanas normally don't really need baths, when they shed their old skin the dirt comes off with it, and when she got really dirty I placed her in the shower. Bathing freaked her out and so far there was no reason to force her. So now I had to get her used to bathing. At first what she'd do would be to struggle to get out of it immediately. Then she stopped being afraid and would attempt to float, but lack of habit meant she would take unbalanced positions and flip on her back and otherwise be unable to swim. Then she learned to balance herself, but still hadn't figured out at what height her head should rest. Most of the time her nose ended under water and she choked. Then it seems like she decided that water was awesome after all, she spent the day trying to fit in her water bowl:  |
