Well, it wasn't really Youtube, it was the copyright holders. Half of my amv's got tagged, one even got pulled by Youtube. I pulled the others down to keep my channel name safe, but that included my Ballroom Blitz vid of Ensouls' fan comic. I don't blame Youtube, I know it's the copyright holders that do it. It really sucks for amv makers though, what we do isn't protected under Fair Use because it's not deemed Parody. None of us are doing this as any form of copyright infringement, but we can actually be punished if we challenge our videos getting pulled and Youtube decides we're wrong. It just seems wrong that I could take a scene from any movie I wanted, replace all the dialogue with farting sounds and that video couldn't be pulled, but put hours into an AMV and it can just be brought down. Fan art isn't deemed copyright violation, I wish we could get that to apply a little more broadly in fan works. It's always the audio copyright holders too, they are some pretty anal guys. On a side note, where do you apply for the 'Surf Youtube all day' job?

I mostly have to agree with everything above my post.
But at the same time I'll have to agree Little with the copyright association. If all their music is on youtube , why buy it?
But, attacking peoples hard work muting it, AMW's that people have used Lot's of work and time on, that's just plainly evil, i could understand if they had the author of the amw sent a few bucks for to be allowed to use the music, But those bucks is like thousands of dollars... and' your regular Amw maker simply can't afford that.
To put it bluntly , Music is made to be used as something, why not let talented (mostly) people make those vids, that might attract people to but the damn song , there's even movies on YT that have a direct link to the place embedded in the darn video.
I think i stated my point,Hope you don't get to angry,This is merly my opinion.

Well the problem there is the music companies and their subsidiaries normally have Youtube channels themselves. And no one downloads off of Youtube, they use torrents, and other P2P sites. I suppose I could accept the argument that if someone finds a song on Youtube they may be more likely to download it since they're already on the computer, but that a weak justification really.

The copyright holders also target coverbands. I had a couple videos of my old band removed from YouTube and got a nifty threatening email from them.

Yarrp. It's a load of crap, and removing the songs on Youtube will only encourage downloading elsewhere- if I find a song i like then they get rid of it, I'll look for it. If the only place i can find it is a torrent, I will download that torrent. YouTube = free publicity. Removing songs from it = bad business. The copyright holders also target coverbands. I had a couple videos of my old band removed from YouTube and got a nifty threatening email from them.
Now that is just wrong.
