Its a wee bt easier for the UK people to meet up, not too mention cheaper.
After all, while the UK is americas equal in many ways, the country itself, including ireland, is smaller then some of your lakes.
So therefore cheaper(ish) travel and less time spent traveling.

Well, that depends entirely on what we want to do and what time of year we want to do it in. How d'you fancy a nice seaside holiday?
Otherwise, no.
EDIT- London would be a good, central place that everyone can get to, it's just that I hate the place. It's big, it's dirty, a disproportionate number of the people are arseholes and I know of nothing fun to do there.

I agree with the badness of london you mention, but I cant really think of anything better myself. Nottingham is the second best idea, or liecester or peterbourgh.
And I was thinking of meet, get beers in, pub for orrid weather, crate in park for nice.
not really sure truth be told.
