TIL that Orson Scott Card is a self-proclaimed Browncoat, and has stated that if Ender's Game cannot be as good a movie as Serenity, he doesn't want it made...he'd rather just rewatch Serenity.

TIL that Hamlet is a spectacular sleep aid, no matter what form it comes in--book, movie, book-on-tape. All are equally boring and nothing short of a shot of adrenaline can keep me awake.

Lies!

Go watch the movie Strange Brew.  Tis the story of Hamlet with beer and Canadians and laughter.

Okay, don't get me wrong... the story itself is interesting. But when your teacher stops it every six lines to explain what Hamlet's latest "woe is me/revenge on Claudius" soliloquy meant, it's pretty damn hard to focus. Shit gets kinda repetitive; it isn't hard to figure out what Hamlet's bitching about this time.

Hell yes. I've read three plays so far: Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar, and Hamlet. Strangely, the one most people in my graduating class hated the most, Romeo and Juliet, is the one I actually liked.

I thank God and my junior English teacher that we didn't have to read one last year. I guess we didn't because it was American lit, but regardless... however, I was disappointed that we didn't get to read Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. I was looking forward to that. There's an excerpt from it in the Hamlet book, and I had to quit reading because it was making me laugh out loud.

Nah, he's not a pussy, he's indecisive.  Don't look at Hamlet from the "Shakespere is art" point of view, look at from the cynical "Shakespere owned the theater he was writing the plays for and had to maintain audience interest."  As badass as it would have been for Hamlet to stab his uncle in the back and send his doomed soul straight to hell it would have been to short a play if he had.  Hamlet instead prolonged the play by never acting decisively.

Also, back then, there really wasn't anything to do. A couple of pennies could get you into the theatre to watch the plays as well. :3 I like Hamlet better than Romeo and Juliet. Also, if you REALLY pay attention, every movie and tv show take inspiration from Shakespeare. So yeah. -shrugs-

Speaking of Mr. Shakespeare, HAPPY BIRTHDAY AND HAPPY DEATHDAY. : D

I loathed shakespear in HS, because I felt (and in fact still feel) that examining the plays in detail takes away some of the 'magic' of them. When I reread them later on, in my free time, I found them to be much more enjoyable.

TIL that according to most of my friends and family, I'm an overly cynical and sarcastic asshole...and that most of my friends consider that to be a good thing.

Not really something learned though... More like something I noticed and just a random, useless fact.

At my school the AP classes all get shirts made. The AP British Literature class shirt said, "If Shakespeare studied Shakespeare like WE studied Shakespeare, he'd never pass AP British Lit!"

Truer words were never spoken.

TIL that Shanks from One Piece sounds just like Harima Kenji from School Rumble, and Zoro kinda like Giroro (Sergeant Frog).
Such an awesome anime for the first alone.
And a pretty sweet name at that.
