I don't think it could claim to be "Official Selection 2010 Slamdance Film Festival" if it was fake.

And there you go, a Lovecraft comedy. Go figure.

And ninja'd.

This could either be fucking brilliant or the worst shit imaginable. It really depends on if they can balance the comedy and powerful Cosmic Horror correctly. There's something about Lovecraftian lore that goes way deeper than "Oh gawd, a fish dude! I'll scream like a little girl and run away comedically". It can be done easily in zombie movies and whatnot, but not this. Hellboy pulled it off cause it wasn't a "Lovecraft story"; just pulled elements from it. So there needs to be a balance, without drastic changes between comedy and horror. [/Lovecraft fanboyism]

Thank you, Sammich. You said exactly what I wanted to, but had trouble putting into coherent words.

I thought "Cast A Deadly Spell" did the balancing act pretty well. Lovecraftian Horror with Comedy and Film Noir a go-go.

I wish "A Shoggoth On the Roof" had been A) better and B) not so plagued with copyright troubles.

Oh dear. I fear this will be terrible. Lovecraft should be easy to make into a good film. You just have to make it atmospheric and scary, but just about every adaptation I've seen gets it wrong. The Unnamable, Dagon, Re-animator were all pretty poor.

The only exception is The Call of Cthulhu, which was a black and white silent movie and was awesome.
