I've never made my own stock but the only soup I can make that doesn't come out of can or soup mix is a broccoli and cheddar cheese soup. Mmmm, yummy. Well that's not entirely true, my favorite way to get rid of leftover chicken is to cube it and make chicken soup with lots of fresh veggies. My shortcut is I use chicken flavored ramen noodles as the base

I see.
My mother has an interesting way of making her own stock from the baked chicken carcass. She boils it in a pressure cooker which takes a lot of stuff (<-- I don't know what exactly) from the chicken and makes it look almost like jello when it is in the refridgerator. A few days later she puts the extra meat, some veggies, and chicken bullion into a pot and makes soup! It's actually really easy.

Essentially, it is jello. The thing that gives Jello and gelatin, its shape is collagen extracted from animal bones and skin. She's really making homemade chicken jello.

I thought that was the only way to make stock, boilg bones and carcass if available. I hate stock made completely from flavored powders. I only use a bit to add saltiness and a little more flavor. With beef soups I use the roast drippings, and with chicken and turkey I use the bones.

I think that's right Tori, but to make it into gelatin all you have to do is pour out the excess water after boiling and let it cool; I think, I've never made it myself before. Pretty sure it just lets you save the stock to be added to a soup later.

I always freeze it if I'm not ready to use it. Then I just end up with a giant chicken ice cube.

Oh my god. That's a scary thought. But kinda cool at the same time. Wanna beat up our younger brother? He needs it. Essentially, it is jello. The thing that gives Jello and gelatin, its shape is collagen extracted from animal bones and skin. She's really making homemade chicken jello. I know. I stuck my finger in it and licked it once. UGGGGGGGGGGGH! Needless to say. Not tasty.

I remember an episode of the Dr. Who spin-off Torchwood where bodies were being found skinned with organs removed. Next night in car going to pub quiz:
Me: Catch Torchwood? Dr_Evil & his girlfriend (driving): Yes. Me:You could just tell they were Welsh cannibals and not Scots. Others:... Me:You saw those bodies? Legs, arms, HEADS! No way a Scot would leave all that there! All together: BILE IT FER SOUP!! (car nearly crashes due to hilarity) .... Dr_Evil's Girlfriend to me: Lucky your father hates all Dr. Who things. If he'd seen that he'd have gone nuts. I mean they left shanks and *everything*....
Moral: It isn't real home made soup until the eldest male is found chewing the bones still dripping with herbs and growling "Yeh dunno whit yer missing!"
