Mirror's edge audio problems

So, a while back I bought Mirror's edge for PC. I have an acer laptop.
Now, the game was fun to play. But all of a sudden, a while into the game, the audio just stopped working. No sound.
Only the intro clip when you start the game works.
No changes in the audio settings fixes it. It is frustrating and makes the game hell of a lot less exiting to play.
It just doesn't work.
So I deleted the game and re-installed it but it is still there.

Anyone have any ideas?

Don't unplug your speakers after the opening cutscene

Check and see if there are driver updates for your sound card?

I really don't see why the sound card should have any problems handling mirror's edge. My computer was produced in 2008, same year as mirror's edge.
