So, I'm planning on getting a SNES soonish. Probably this one, which is a SNES/NES hybrid:

I've always had a NES, but the SNES is something I never grew up with. I don't regret being a Sega kid, but I do regret not owning the SNES, which is home to a lot of my favourite games that I only managed to play on emulators later in my life. But now I'm bitch-slapping emulators in the face and getting the real thing.

See, there's having a digital copy of a game...but then there's having something you can look at on your shelf and say "THAT'S MINE" whilst pounding your chest and doing an interpretive dance. I consider this the start of my retro collection, which will be a collection of most things retro-game related. It's something I wanted to do for a while, but I never managed to get around to it.

So, for this first step into my retro collection, what SNES and NES games do you suggest I get? I already have some for NES (I'll have to clean those hookers off though), and know a lot of SNES titles. But I'm sure I'll see some that are unfamiliar to me, or some that I forgot about. I'd like to hear about ones that are great but not well-known, as well as the more known ones.

Super Metroid, Super Mario World, and if you can find it, Super Mario All-stars. All must have classics.

Let's see, the original Ninja Gaiden games, Super Mario RPG (Good luck finding it though), the Legend of Zelda games, Kirby Superstars.

Just to name some of the more awesome ones.

There's also the original Star Fox, if you can even find that.

Yoshi's motherfucking Island.

And I totally second Kirby Superstars. That's my favorite SNES game EVER.

Also, Final Fantasy VI. It might be found as III, however.

I agree with everyone and would like to add the Donkey Kong Country games (there were three by memory). I used to love those to death.
Uni Rally was another one I loved heaps.

I now feel like finding my SNES and playing it >.>

Donkey Kong Country, as DarkMilly suggested, is a must.

Do not forget Chrono Trigger.

Never had an NES, or played much of it (though you've gotta try and get Duck Hunter...)

For SNES though:
All the Donkey Kong Country games
Super Mario RPG
UN Squadron
Street Fighter 2 (I prefered the original over Turbo or CE, but that's just me)
The Star Wars trilogy of games

on another note: Need to remember to brutally murder my brother. We joint-owned a 1st Gen SNES 20 odd games, 2 regular controllers, and a Turbo controller, all of which worked great...and he gave it all away without even asking me if I wanted it.

Oh yeah, I've wanted to try UN Squadron ever since I learned it's the video game to the anime Area 88.
