Dead Space: Till I got the Rifle, and I pulled a Hudson "Alien References" on the oncoming wrath of the Necromorph, even then I was scare shitless while shouting "Come and get some!"

System Shock 2 never actually scared me per se but it still remains one of the most atmospheric and influential games ever made.

Yeah, to me being scared of a game would mean you wouldn't want to keep playing it, but I think the general premise of the thread is just games that creeped people out, or made them jump, I didn't really wanna split hairs when I first posted, but I've seen people saying no game has ever "scared" them, which is probably true, but I'd be surprised if there was no game that ever made them flench or anything. Also, Bioshock kind of creeped me out...not while I was playing it though. I work for a fire protection company, so our office has one of those really old-timey brass fire extinguishers that are all over the place in the game, and as I started walking by it one day one of my co-workers started singing "Jesus loves me this I know".....made me stop for a brief moment just to re-affirm I didn't need to start looking for a shotgun.

Some people enjoy being scared. It's why I'm always reading horror stories in the middle of the night.
Those ice spiders from Ty The Tasmanian Tiger creeped me out when I first saw them, with their light blue bodies and red eyes.

There was an old (as in back in the early/mid 80s) text based adventure game for the ZX Spectrum called "Dracula" that Dr_Evil's girlfriend and I used to play together as kids. It was an 18 Certificate and quite graphic in the horror (Tape 2, yes I said "tape", this was a tape loader) had a point where as the doc in the insane asylum you hear the alarm meaning there's an escaped patient and if you made the wrong move you got a lovely description of your throat being cut "like a ripe melon." Nice. But it's the part where, as Jonathan Harker in Transylvania, you have a dream of a large dog on a bed "eating a piece of bloody meat?" then at Castle Dracula, if you fucked up, it happened. It was a wolf, it was your bed and you are being eaten alive. And you can do nothing. Descriptions range from "I can't do that... the pain..." to finally, in desperation, we tried typing the command "die." "I can't do that yet. Oh Mina... I'm so sorry... the pain..." That was seriously creepy. No sound. No music. Just text. And the odd 40kilobyte monochrome set piece picture. It'll be out there for you to download along with Spectrum Emulators if you fancy trying it for yourselves. Think I'll pass.

Standard audio tape. Those of us of a certain age still get misty eyed when we here the screetch of those old games loaded. The Spectrum 48K, the Commodore 64K... Not the Vic20 though. Now that really was crap. Think the standard was a C60 tape.

I've heard of games being played on casettes. Like that terrible hide n seek game. Or transformers. Ugh. But man whatever. I feel like I missed out on a golden age. You old peoplehad it good. All you needed was two buttons and a couples pixels. Now I look at my generation. The gamecube generation just turn their back. Also. Nightmare on elm street for the NES. Just scary IMHO. Yet Freddy has always scares me.

Amnesia so far is just making my constantly anxious, so its not the sort of "ah *falls out of seat*" scary, but your heart rate is constantly high.
