The first time I watched the Ring was right after it came out on DVD. As soon as the movie was over, before the credits even really got started the power went out. (I should mention there was a lightning storm going on at the time.) Almost simultaneous with the power going out the phone started ringing.
Everyone just sat on the couch staring at the phone until it stopped ringing.

So, During the game "The Suffering", the main character can answer any phones in the prison that he comes across.
One day, I was watching my friend play it, and he was just messing around and picking up all the phones yelling "HELLO!? HELLO!?", and then the character would hang up. Well, he picked up on phone, and before he could scream, the phone said "You will die in seven days", and the character looked at the phone and slammed it back down. I haven't heard anyone mention this ever whenever they talk about the game.
