Log, when you guys roll the 6x6 square of numbers, do you put them wherever, or go in order, so the first one is always strength?
And I start DMing on Tuesday, I'm kind of nervous.

That's awesome. To be young and DMing for the very first time....*sigh*

You take your six numbers and assign them wherever.

I normally play rogue, but I want to play a ranger. The wizard is really fun to play most nights, maybe I was just having a bad night or something. I think the mechanic we've got set up is more than I want to deal with.
About to roll up a six by six array for a monk, and I'll post it here when I'm done. The stats are being rolled up with the standard 4d6 and drop the lowest, but we roll six sets of six and set them up as a box, then we're allowed to pick any row, column, or diagonal... thing. Wish me luck!
14 15 14 14 18 15 08 16 09 13 09 12 07 12 10 13 13 12 14 14 11 14 14 14 09 16 16 14 16 13 09 18 11 12 11 07
Rolling fire, baby.
Read back for this and definitely have to persuade the next DM to do this. A pretty wicked idea to prevent the 10's and 12's we get for our dump stats.

Yeah, I'm doing this for my game coming up cause it gives players more flexibility with attributes rather than being stuck with a shitty one. I've known some people who've been stuck with a 6 for strength, which then was reduced down to a 4 cause he was a gnome.
Anyways, do you guys have any advice for a first time DM?

I think what it comes down to is; if you're having fun, then your players will have fun, too.
Like everything else, first time is gonna be tough until you relax into the role and all that junk. Also, listening to everything the players have to say will help too. Like advice for the next game and stuff. My GM always asked if there were any questions about descriptions of buildings or people or how the game was going when we were done. -nod-
ps. IM HELPFUL

Thanks Hail. Yeah, I just get nervous sometimes when talking to groups of people, and well I don't know some of them that well, and I'm having them all over to my place on Tuesday

Also, if yer having them at your house, I think you should also establish house rules: (ie, you can stay in character but not scream out everything or food not on the game table or whatever) Just a couple of those things where you know, if you don't like it, yer parents will most certainly will not. Get what I mean?

Yeah. I thought of a couple. It was mostly, pay attention and be respectful, cause A) there's going to be other people in the house doing stuff and it will most likely be their days off so they don't want to hear you yelling, and B) even if you're not doing something, somebody else in the game is, and somebody will need to hear it, so just be respectful; use fucking coasters if you have a drink on the table (last summer I sanded down the table and put all the varnish and what not on it, so I don't really want to have to do it again this summer), be on time (I've given them an hour to show up, 11-12, cause of exams and what not), just be polite, also I'm not feeding them. DM feeds them with story, I shouldn't have to feed 5 other people, but I will bake cookies for them this time only.

Realize that you will be making dice rolls that will kill your players when you thought you were doing something rather innocuous; the DM's dice hate players. I use a screen so I can lie about my rolls for the player's sake, depending on the situation. If the player was doing something dumb/extremely risky, I may let the dice kill them. I like to think of RPGs as more of a story-telling experience rather than a game, so I call what I think is best for the story.

And some savvy players will cheat their rolls to save their hides. Keep an eye on them dice.

Or if you're like me, suck ass at math and die that way. Double Triple check your math, especially on reflex rolls But yeah, a screen of some sort is a good idea. I'll try to keep an eye on it. EDIT: So my first session has just ended. Know how when you play games, everybody is supposed to show up? Out of the 6 players, 1 showed up >.>

Last Kraken we fought, we boiled him to send him deeper into the water and fed him corpses to get past him. Or we hopped on the corpses to get past him while feeding him others.
Now I'm feeling lucky that we started an hour or two before the original time, sorry to hear that Jetray.
