So I've been playing a bit of Star Wars Saga Edition lately. Must say that as a diehard Star Wars Fan, I heartily approve. Weapons deal more damage then they do in DnD, and healing is much harder (particularly compared to 4e). However, even the relative lack of healing, serves to make you feel like more of a BAMF. It also encourages people to play more tactically (ex: I play a wookie soldier. When we assaulted a safehouse, I ran ahead of the rest of the group, opening doors so the others could advance at full speed, and causing anyone with prepared actions to use those actions). Where it falls apart is that when someone knows next to nothing about Star Wars lore, and has obviously not read the books, they can really slow down the game. Having to explain to a Jedi why 2 jedi armed with lightsabers could easily cut a five foot diameter hole in a 4" thick permacrete wall is annoying. Especially when it takes 30ish minutes before they concede the point and let the game continue.

Next time say "Space wizards with beam swords. Shut the fuck up and let us get back to playing."

it actually got a lot worse then that. Basically, because of that character not knowing about the setting/lore/game rules...an encounter that should have taken us 45min-2hrs...took us 4.5hrs to get through.

Seriously? Kick them out. That shit is not okay. Not everyone can sit at a game all night. I had a problem the other week where the DM brought in a warhammer model as a joke for "metagaming" (Or, me asking another player out of game what his stealth check was.) and made us do an hour and a half long fight with it. Every player but one was sitting there, rolling their eyes, texting, really really obviously thinking "This is really really stupid." As soon as the fight started, I made it very clear that I thought it was bullshit by immediately saying "I coup de gra myself." at the beginning of my first turn.

Think about it like this. Do you need to lay down to stick an axe blade in your face?

Heh, Cricco will get vengence on Cassathief!

So, in the pen & paper variety of games, my gaming group mostly finished up our werewolf chronicle, enough to call an end to it for a while. This Saturday 3 of us get to pick back up some Mage characters we played a couple years ago, our DM lost our original character sheets so he's giving us 120 experience at character creation, and the new players in our game are going to be our "trainees", you know, because things always go smooth when one character tells another what to do. Couldn't kick them out...if we did...at least 2 people would have left (the bad player's spouse). And they were good. They were arguing on our side. The problem with the long encounter was we had to explain EVERYTHING to them. They'd obviously never even read up on what Jedi/Lightsaber capabilities are in SWRPG...or seen the movies. Sorry, but if you're gonna play a game based on Star Wars (with 3 people that you could argue are complete fanboys, and 3 other people that at least had the decency to skim the SW Wiki), you should have the decency to know what your class/race is capable of, and a rough understanding of the background

Eh, then next time they complain show them the rule book and ask them to try to not hold things up so much.
