I've also seen the original and it's good but I've also read the story the films are based on and the Kurt Russel film is much closer to the source material. The 1982 film has always been one of my favorite horror films in terms of being geniunely scary (not just jump scares) as well as quality special effects.

Paul was ok. I wasn't disapointed I watched it but I don't know if I'd rewatch it as I did with Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz.
I LOVED Idiocracy. Not enough people have seen that movie.

Watched 3 films in 2 days : Insidious, was ok. Frontiéres, a french horror film about cannibal nazis... the scenario sounded good, but except the final battle, this film was lame as hell, almost everything was ridiculous, not on purpose... Southland Tales...seriously guys... what the fuck did we just watched ? xD |

Green Hornet. Watched it on megavideo, but my internet connection went down after 30 minutes. And its a good thing, this movie wasnt exceptionally bad, just plain not fun to watch. Kinda seemed like the director didnt know what movie to make.

I rented and watched a number of movies over the last week (vacation ftw) including Machete (stupid and cheesy on purpose but fun to watch), How to train your dragon (incredibly predictable but still entertaining), Grown Ups (probably the weakest Adam Sandler movie ever, there was no real plot and no real story but I laughed a few times so I got my dollars worth) and The New Daughter. I'm going to talk about this last one a bit because I'm in the mini review/rant mood. The New Daughter had a few things going for it. Like the girl from Pans Labyrinth is a good actress and surprisingly a good English speaker. The cinematography and camera work were solid. Then there was everything else... The pacing? Boring as shit. By the time the shotguns, fire and explosions were going I had almost ceased to care at all what was going on. The plot? Who knows? Let me say before I start this rant that I LIKE when a movie does not spoon feed me every answer and leaves some things either up to me to figure out or just plain unanswered at all. But for gods sake give me SOMETHING to work with. I can give it props for not going with the story book happy ending but what the fuck happened? SPOILERS COMING. The rash/bug bites/skin disease, wtf was up with that? The bleeding? WTF? Was it from the bug bites/skin disease/rash or raep or what? Seriously WTF? The puking? WTF? The spider doll? WTF? The very lost shot of the movie? WTFF? The “mound walkers? WTMFF!?! Why did they even stay in the house the last half of the movie? SRSLY? Oh wait I have this one, they were just as bored as I was and lost track of what was happening. This movie might have been ok as an episode of Tales From the Crypt or the X-Files but as a two hour long movie… not so much. If you’re REALLY hard up for something scary to watch give it a try. Rating 1 out of 5 fros.   |
