181 - Wastelander Hymn: Important update.
Posted on 2009-03-30 00:00:13

Lots of folks have been asking about the missed con, and my plans for the rest of the con season! So let me tell you what's going on...

I wanted to get down to North Carolina for the Charlotte ComiCon, so I had asked Greg to drive up to the Sault to bring me down, along with my computers and luggage. It's cheaper than flying (anyone who's flown anywhere in Canada will agree) even though it costs a fair bit for gas, food, and hotels. Greg and I were going to get set up for more merchandise, get the materials for the TZH convention booth, and generally build the merchandising side of things while I was in the US. The plan was that I'd stay in the US for the rest of the con season, then head back home again.

But! That got screwed up when I got turned away at the US border. The guard there told us we should try again, so we (Me, Greg, and his friend who came along to help drive) drove all the way to Toronto (13 hours), but we got turned around AGAIN. So then Greg's friend had to fly home, so as not to miss work, and Greg had to drive me back to the Sault alone.

Between the airline ticket, and all the other bills from the trip, it cost almost a thousand dollars, and I didn't even make it across the border. :(

But! We're still going to try to go ahead with the rest of the cons. Greg is going to get in touch with his congressman, on the advice from his lawyer. That should make it easier to get me down there for the next conventions. Also, if you want to help, you can donate to help pay for the next trip, and you can email greg@thezombiehunters.com to tell us which con you will be going to! Greg will be collecting these emails, so that he can tell the congressman how many people we're bringing to the conventions.

I don't like to shake that tip jar and beg for donations, but I feel like I am in a bit of a spot.

You can also help the comic and myself without spending a dime:

- Voting (this helps increase our popularity check the left sidebar!)

- Checking out our Ads (costs you nothing, and helps our sponsors, give em a click!)

- Word of mouth. (Tell people about us, link to us, the more the merrier!) Our link banners can be found here.

And, we're still moving forward on Book 1! Hopefully Greg will get a quote back soon, so we'll open up pre-orders at that point. The books will have more than the online comic, with some strips redone to be a bit cleaner, or some one-page strips expanded to two pages so that you can see more detail. You're really going to get your money's worth there! Pre-orders will probably be signed sketch editions, which means they'll have a totally unique little sketch in the cover. I'm still deciding how many sketch editions I want to do.

Original script for 03-30-2009:
This script may not match the finished comic! It will, however, contain the original spelling errors and other mistakes.
Katie: I know. [there is a short pause] But that's the thing here....if you're infected and don't have a useful trade skill...
Milo: To the wastes with you.
[There is another pause; Jenny lifts a bottle of water]
Jenny: To us.
Katie: To James.
Milo: May we forever look over our shoulders, never let our guards down, keep breathing, our hearts beating, and sleep like the dead when we can.
All: Cheers!
